In April 2016, director Gaby Dellal revealed on Instagram that she was re-editing the film. The new cut of the film, released in international markets since late 2016, runs 92 minutes, as opposed to 87 minutes of the initial version that screened at the Toronto premiere in September 2015.

Michael Brook's score, featured in the version premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, was replaced by West Dylan Thordson for the re-edited version.

Originally titled "Three Generations", once slated for release as "About Ray", and finally released as "3 Generations".

The film was originally slated for an American release on September 18, 2015, and was being shelved for over a year. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2015, and received mixed reviews from critics. The Weinstein Company then pulled the film from the schedule on September 15, 2 days after the premiere and 3 days before the planned release.
