Penta Is in WWE: Here Are 10 Matches That WWE Has to Book for Him in 2025
Image
In what Michael Cole called "the worst kept secret in the business" during his debut match, Penta is officially in the WWE. As of the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, the WWE unveiled their new star luchador by having him defeat Chad Gable. After one match and one promo, Penta received a raucous ovation. Needless to say, a star was born.

Needless to say, 2025 is expected to be a breakout year for Penta under the WWE banner. Everyone expects big things for the former Aew champion, but everyone is curious as to who he could be feuding with and having matches against this year. Looking at the Raw roster alone, the possibilities are endless. As the new year rings in, now seems like the perfect time to speculate as to who Mr. Cero Miedo will show zero fear against in 2025.

Penta vs. Rey Mysterio The History Is There

WWE's New Star Luchador Explained: Who Is Penta?
Image
WWE just signed someone from their competition. For the past few weeks, WWE has been airing teasers in between episodes of Monday Night Raw, featuring the number zero with a slash across. These teasers were synonymous with no clear indicator as to what or who these teasers could be about.

As of Monday Night Raw's premiere on Netflix, WWE has now confirmed that these teasers are about their newest signee, Penta. For weeks, Penta's name floated around in rumors and speculation regarding who these teasers could be about, but the latest teaser showcasing Penta's name and logo confirms this is about the former World Champion.

Penta is best known for his work in All Elite Wrestling, a wrestling company geared toward older audiences often framed as WWE's direct competition. Penta's public and controversial exit from Aew has gifted WWE its newest commodity.

Who Is Penta, WWE's Newest Luchador? A...

Review Round-Up: Antebellum, Nail In The Coffin: The Fall And Rise Of Vampiro, and The Babysitter: Killer Queen
Image
For this review round-up, I’ll be talking about a trio of recent releases that include Antebellum from directors Christopher Renz and Gerard Bush, the wrestling documentary Nail in the Coffin: The Fall and Rise of Vampiro, as well as McG’s latest horror comedy, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, which recently debuted exclusively on Netflix.

Antebellum: I had such high hopes for Antebellum going into it, but there’s a very precise moment in the film where it decides to take a huge left turn, and that’s when everything, to me, fell totally and completely apart with the story. Before that, I absolutely loved the characters, the performances, the costume design, as well as some fantastic production design that was a real highlight as well, and both the pacing and a palpable sense of tension made Antebellum an enthralling experience to watch unfold.

But when Antebellum makes its...

‘Nail in the Coffin': Vampiro’s Doctor Wants to Know How Wrestling Legend Is ‘Even F–ing Walking’ (Exclusive Video)
Ian Hodgkinson, a.k.a. pro-wrestling’s Vampiro, is still undead — try as he, his opponents and the industry might.

In feature-length documentary “Nail in the Coffin: The Rise and Fall of Vampiro,” the semi-retired Lucha Libre legend “reveals the harsh realities behind the glamour of being in the world of wrestling.” That’s according to the doc’s logline, having seen the film, but we can attest to the harshness of Hodgkinson’s wrestling style — and his lifestyle.

You’ll still have to wait a few days to watch the movie, but readers will immediately see what we mean via the video above. In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek, his doctor wonders “How are you even f—ing walking?”

When a medical doctor adopts the “F” word as part of his bedside manner, you know your body is f—ed up. Vamp’s “25 concussions,” 16 broken noses and four broken...

‘Underworld Wrestling: Season 1′ Review (Amazon Prime)
Underworld Wrestling, now available to stream on Amazon Prime (Season 1) started out as a Kickstarter campaign in 2018 and follows a template I can only really compare to the cult-wrestling-hit Lucha Underground. The wrestling is there, it’s what what you’d expect from a pro-wrestling show, but everything else, from backstory to characters to storylines, are part of a dramatic and much more soap-opera driven format and a focus on fighting. Underworld Wrestling’s website says this about what the show is all about;

Popular history often tells how professional wrestling was introduced to Australia in the 1960s and 70s by international promoters looking to tame an unruly sporting market. Little did these promotors know the southern territory presented fierce competition with an underground wrestling tradition brandishing a particularly ruthless style of fighting sports. The Underworld fight club was the flagship sports gathering of Melbourne’s underworld and it had...

‘Impact Wrestling: United We Stand’ Pay Per View Review
Welcome to this review of Impact Wrestling’s United We Stand, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and it’s time to see if this was any good.

Match #1: Impact World Champion Johnny Impact def. Jake Crist, Dante, Pat Buck & Ace Austin – #1 Contenders Match for the X-Division Championship

My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – This turned out just fine, but I wish that it…you know what I’m going to say…lasted longer. The spots looked excellent and the pace was swift, so it all moved along quite well.

Match #2: Team Lucha Underground def. Team Impact

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – The action was a bit lame, but at least some very talented wrestlers got another shot at showing what they can do. In some ways, this might be the final time we see Lucha Underground in any facet, so there’s that, at least.

Match #3: Knockouts Champion Taya Valkyrie def.

Gilbert Cosme in Lucha Underground (2014)
Former ‘Lucha Underground’ Wrestler Sexy Star to Make Mma Debut in Combate Americas (Exclusive)
Gilbert Cosme in Lucha Underground (2014)
Former “Lucha Underground” wrestler Sexy Star — real name Dulce Maria Garcia — is set to make her Mma debut in Hispanic mixed martial arts league Combate Americas, TheWrap has learned exclusively.

Garcia is undefeated (5-0) in her professional boxing career, but she to this point has never competed under mixed martial arts rules. Well, she’s got a few coming up: Combate Americas has signed Garcia to an exclusive, multi-fight deal.

Garcia’s first Mma fight is on Combate’s April 12 card in her hometown of Monterrey, Mexico.

The 36-year-old Garcia is both an accomplished and controversial pro wrestler. First, the good: She was the first woman in history to win the Lucha Underground Championship, which is an inter-gender (meaning men can wrestle women) title. In addition to her squared-circle time on “Lucha Underground,...

The Last Week in Wrestling #5 (Wrestling Round-Up)
Welcome to this edition of The Last Week In Wrestling, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have some great matches to cover, so let’s do so.

WWE Match Ratings Out Of 5: Raw: Sasha Banks, Bayley & Natalya versus The Riott Squad – 3.5 Apollo Crews versus Jinder Mahal – 2 Aop versus Seth Rollins (Handicap Match For The Raw World Tag Team Championship) – 2.5 Elias versus Dolph Ziggler – 2 Nia Jax versus Ember Moon – 2.5 Bobby Lashley versus Finn Bálor – 2.5 Drew McIntyre versus Kurt Angle – 2.5

Final Raw Verdict: 2.5 out of 5 – On a night when Kurt Angle looked better than the guy put over, Raw proved that even when it does things right, it will likely get the rest wrong. Seth Rollins losing the titles in a Handicap Match was a bad idea that Rollins made work, but it just sets him up for another dull feud with Dean Ambrose. Having Nia and...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (Nov 7th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have the second half of Ultima Lucha Cuatro, so don’t you Lucha-go any-where! Wait… that sounded… aw, $#!&. Well, at least the matches are good. By the way, I’m not Peter Pan.

Match #1: Fenix defeated El Dragon Azteca Jr. – Two Out Of Three Falls Match

My Take: 4 out of 5 – Well, this was $#@!*&$ cool. This whole thing was classic lucha libre that felt like it was right out of Cmll/Emll. It was Emll originally, right? Any-way, this was fast and furious… but not like number eight… this was much better than eight. These guys were all over the place from the start, going for every big move they could stuff into this bad boy. These guys worked this whole match like it was Pay Per View, which is fitting since...

‘Lucha Underground': Turning A Dirty Warehouse Into A Neo-Noir Kingdom
In a cold storage facility two miles south of downtown Los Angeles, the “Lucha Underground” ring sits empty. A day’s worth of dust settles on the seats and bleachers that were once filled with rabid fans chanting “Cero Miedo.” The lights that give the impromptu arena a pulpy comic book feel are off, leaving it feeling as lifeless and abandoned as it was when the cult wrestling TV show’s production team first found it.

But around the corner, in the darkest, dustiest area of the facility, Skip Chaisson is filming the type of scene he originally visualized when he found this decrepit location. Standing in his camera monitor, bathed in lights that shine beneath creaky floorboards, is Matanza Cueto, the ferocious, murderous man possessed by a bloodthirsty Aztec god. When Chaisson chose this cold storage site as the location for “Lucha Underground”‘s season 4, which concludes this week on El Rey Network,...

Gilbert Cosme in Lucha Underground (2014)
‘Lucha Underground’ Director Picks His Favorite Shots From the Series (Photos)
Gilbert Cosme in Lucha Underground (2014)
“Lucha Underground” has become a cult hit with wrestling fans, thanks in large part to the elaborate backstage segments that have given the show an otherworldly mythology that has gotten bigger with each season. Skip Chaisson, director of those cutscenes, takes TheWrap behind the scenes with notes on his favorite shots from the El Rey series and what inspired them.

Episode 1: The Opening Fight Scene: “Inspired by an old El Santo comic, this was our first big fight. It established what we were doing with Lucha “real world” fights.

Episode 4: King Cuerno’s introduction: “This was one of the moments where I knew we were on to something. The sun was setting and King walks out to the edge of the roof a la “The Dark Knight” with no fear, a total badass hero come to life.”

Episode 4: Fenix’s introduction: “This was another step we took...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (Oct 31st 2018)
Welcome to the Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and this is Ultima Lucha: Cuatro – Part 1! Did the exclamation point work? Screw it. Let’s rock and or rolllllllllllllllla!

Match #1: The Reptile Tribe defeated The Rabbit Tribe and Sammy Guevara, Ivelisse and Xo Lishus – Trios Title Elimination Match

My Take: 3 out of 5 – This was a good match that had lots of action, but felt like it was less than the sum of its parts. I’d call this an old-fashioned lucha match, complete with wild spots and blood in all the wrong places… actually, the blood worked out where it was. The wrestling was fast and furious and made every-one look like a psychopath. The star of the match was Guevara, who has had one hell of a year and got a chance to show what many of us had been missing. Kevin Kross,...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (Oct 24th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have one match that rules the card. Will that match be enough to give this show a good review?

Match #1: (Main Event) – Jake Strong vs. Dante Fox vs. Hernandez vs. Aerostar vs. Big Bad Steve vs. Pj Black vs. King Cuerno – Gift Of The Gods Title Match My Take: 3.5 out of 5

This was good stuff. The bout is a long one, which is the right way to go, since it’s the only one booked on the card. Strong dominated the match, even though every-body got their moment to shine, even if they were only in it for a moment or so. Hernandez is lucky to have gotten this recent jolt of life to his career and with being able to finally work in Impact Wrestling and Lucha Underground, he might...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (Oct 17th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have the Gift of the Gods battle royale, as well as a big main event, so let’s get to it, before I croak.

Match #1: Jake Strong beat Big Bad Steve, Aerostar, Pj Black, Hernandez, Dante Fox and King Cuerno – Battle Royale Match For #1 Contendership To The Gift of the Gods Title

My Take: 2 out of 5 - This was a squash that made the other wrestlers look weak, but made Strong look like an embodiment of his name. There isn’t much to say about all of this, other than I hate it when other athletes get ignored for one person. Strong doesn’t need to be put over other people like this and would have been better off being booked based off of his successes in the WWE. Strong could...

The Last Week in Wrestling #1 (Wrestling Round-Up)
Welcome to the debut of The Last Week in Wrestling, right here on Nerdly. We’re combining the WWE Week In Review and the Nerdly Wrestling Awards into one weekly column that will perform the function of both. With Phil covering Raw, Smackdown and Impact, this will give me the chance to get all my stuff out in one sitting. I’ll give you my ratings for all of the matches before I give you my thoughts on the each league.

As for the Nerdly Wrestling Awards, that’s getting moved to just the end of the year and maybe we’ll have some goofy looking trophies to hand out then… to no one. Also, I apologize for all of my bad reviews last week… because they sucked. If you don’t remember, they were pretty much just obnoxious for the sake of being so. ‘Lucha Underground’ Review (Oct 10th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have more attempted murder from Matanza, as well as a big Ultima Lucha match announced for Johnny Mundo. Let’s lucha… wait, that’s not a phrase.

Match #1: Matanza Cueto beat Taya Valkyrie – Sacrifice To The Gods Match (Dq)

Nathan’s Take: 2 out of 5 - This was decent, but it was also very disappointing, considering that both of these wrestlers are capable of doing so much more than a glorified squash match. The idea of Taya swearing vengeance against any-one is a good way to go, as she seems to be tough enough to to go hog wild on any-one who crosses her. The fact that this was all about Taya getting pay-back for Matanza destroying her wedding is a bit cheap, but it worked for Kill Bill… Bill did try to kill her,...

Nerdly Wrestling Awards – Week Six
Welcome to this week’s Nerdly Wrestling Awards, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have an interesting week to cover, one that was boring and exciting at the same time. The matches themselves go from bad to great, so we’ll have lots of things to complain about, as well as praise. Let’s get right to it.!

Worst Promo:

Greatest Man Who…Wouldn’t Shut Up (Impact Wrestling) - Austin Aries is a good talker… for about a minute and a half. Having Aries gab for what felt like an eternity is a bad way to get people to pay money to see a fight. Impact had a few candidates for this award, but this one was the biggest waste of time, despite the Eddie Edwards/Moose vignette being pretty bad.

Best Promo:

Marty’s Revelation (Lucha Underground) - This was pretty well performed for a very long,...

Also, we will use Larry Csonka’s review of Lucha Underground, which you can find every week on 411Mania, for further context.

Match #1: Paul London, El Bunny, & Killer Kross defeated Joey Ryan, Ivelisse, & Xo Lishus The following is courtesy of Larry Csonka and 411Mania:

London and Bunny attack before the bell, but Ivelisse fights back and works over London. Bunny tags in and so does Xo Lishus. Bunny hits a springboard head butt and kicks. Bunny follows with a broncobuster as London tags back in. He delivers knee strikes, but Xo Lishus gets a sunset flip for 2. London cuts him off but Xo Lishus gets the tag anyway as Ivelisse runs wild and sends London into Bunny and Germans them both.

Nerdly Wrestling Awards – Week Five
Welcome to this week’s Nerdly Wrestling Awards, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have some good wrestling to cover, so let’s do so.

Worst Promo:

Milwaukee Bull-$@!# (Smackdown) – Aiden English told Lana he knew about what she did in Milwaukee. Who cares?

Best Promo:

Ain’t Got No Respect (Impact) – The OGz had an excellent promo where they burnt Konnan’s old luchador mask while promising to destroy Lax at Bound For Glory.

Worst Moment:

Top Prospects Get No Respect (Ring of Honor) – Jeff Cobb was booked to beat the hell out of two more members of the Top Prospect Tournament and it made the two guys look terrible. Trust me when I say, you may not give a $#!% about the Top Prospect tournament after this angle.

Best Moment:

Match #1: Matanza Cueto beat Jack Evans The following is courtesy of WrestlingInc and Joseph James:

Jack avoids Matanaza, rips off a turnbuckle, and pushes Matanza into head first. He goes up and hits a cannonball 630! Jack goes for a cover but Matanza just lifts him up and gives him the Wrath of the Gods for the win.

My Take: 1.5 out of 5 – Matanza squashed a wrestler who is leaving the league. Jack got tired of Ivelisse’s politicking, as well as other things...

Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we will use a very recent review of this card from WrestlingInc and the author of the review, Joesph James. Let’s jump right in.

Match #1: El Dragon Azteca Jr. beat Ivelisse – Gift of the Gods Championship Match The following is courtesy of Joseph James and WrestlingInc.com:

Ivelisse gains an early advantage with a few nice arm drags, followed by frankensteiner from the middle rope. Dragon Azteca catches Ivelisse with a running crescent kick in the middle of her suicide dive attempt, and begins to work on the left arm to wear Ivelisse down. Azteca shows off some nice submission skills with a Boston Crab and a crossface, but Ivelisse uses her Mma background to escape.

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (Sept 5th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a night… of death!

Match #1: Matanza Cueto beat Joey Wrestling

Matanza killed Joey in this match. The idea is that he has sacrificed his sixth victim here. The match itself was good for what it was, with Matanza looking like a monster as usual. It’s weird to see Joey Mathews/Mercury/Wrestling in for a quick run, but it was built on avenging Johnny Mundo, so at least there’s a reason for it. This is a good way to perform some late summer cleaning on the roster, I suppose.

Match #2: Killshot beat Big Bad Steve (w/ The Beautiful Brenda)

This was a good match that made Killshot look like a bigger deal than when he walked in. Killshot, who is Shane Strickland in real life, has struggled...

Welcome to week two of the Nerdly Wrestling Awards, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a very competitive week of wrestling to get to, with one league getting a card in as an early exception to the rule. Let’s get right to the best of wrestling, from last week.

Worst Promo:

1. The Smoke Show (Impact)

2. N/A (Ring Of Honor)

3. The Wedding Of Johnny Mundo And Taya (Lucha Underground)

4. N/A (Aaa)

5. The Resurrection Of Joey Ryan (All In)

6. N/A (Major League Wrestling)

7. The IIconics Challenge Naomi (WWE)

Winner: The Wedding Of Johnny Mundo And Taya (Lucha Underground)

This was pretty lousy television no matter how you look at it. Lucha Undeground went a little too close to Vince McMahon’s bread and butter here, complete with the bad comedy that Vince likes.

Best Promo:

1. Rich Swann Challenges The X Division Champion To...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (August 29th 2018)
Welcome to the Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and this was a lousy episode of Lucha Underground, so don’t expect much.

Match #1: Jake Strong beat Drago

This was a nice little match that was an even affair for both men. Both competitors looked good here and were able to show what they can do. It was nice to see that the difference in size was ignored, as that part of booking and promoting has been out-dated for close to thirty years. If Bruce Lee can legitimately beat an opponent of any size (people didn’t go watch his movies because he could act) then why can’t professional wrestling completely embrace a short man beating a tall man? People like Vince McMahon and Billy Corgan need to let go of the size thing, because people don’t care about if Rey Mysterio is shorter than the Undertaker,...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (August 22nd 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a few big matches to cover here, so let’s do so.

Match #1: Mil Muertes (w/ Catrina) beat The Mack – Haunted House Match

This was a good match that brought Halloween a few months early. The idea here was that they had half of the inventory from Party City to attack each other with. This was like watching the Scott Steiner/Jeff Jarrett brawl from Tna/Impact that was booked to be Mick Foley’s idea. If Lou Thesz was here, he’d cut a promo on how stupid these two guys were for working a match like this and how bad their gimmicks are. The Mack deserves more than just being fodder for Mil, who is talented, but not likely to go too much farther with this character. Mil is a fun gimmick,...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (August 15th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have to talk about Kevin. Kevin’s a sicko. He killed John C. Reilly!

Match #1: Matanza Cueto beat Saltador

Matanza got another sacrifice in Saltador here. The idea is Matanza kills who-ever he beats, so Saltador is now dead. When Lucha Underground wants to bury some-body, they bury them. With that said, can you imagine Triple H having that kind of power? Owen Hart would have been taking a dirt nap long before he tragically died.

Match #2: El Dragon Azteca beat Killshot – Gift Of The Gods Match

This was a good match that had some excellent athleticism from both fighters. Azteca is lacking in the star power department (aisle 6 at Sears) but has the talent necessary to get the attention he’ll need to become a big name. Killshot is...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (August 8th 2018)
Welcome to the Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have the great John Cleese on tonight’s show, with our musical guest Katy Perry, but coming up next we have one of the great people… Joey Buttofucco!

Match #1: Matanza Cueto beat Mala Suerte

Matanza killed Suerte… I think. A squash match with Matanza lately means death, which seems to be a bad way to establish a good reputation within the wrestling industry… and the Better Business Bureau.

Match #2: Joey Ryan & Jack Evans beat Xo Lishus & Ivelisse – Tag Team Match

This was a fun tag match that had a good pace. I like the weird feud between Evans and Xo, as I’m still not sure if this is hatred or lust that Evans is booked to feel for Xo. Ivelisse continued her streak of good work against men with both Evans and Ryan.

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (August 1st 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and I’m proud to bring you more from Jim Cornette’s favorite wrestling league.

Match #1: Daga w/ Kobra Moon beat Pj Black

This was an excellent match, with a focus on technical prowess ahead of aimless stunts. Black is just getting better and better all the time. Black always puts a great emphasis on his moves and how much damage they appear to do to his opponent. I’ve always heard that Black was a very nice man and he certainly wrestles like one, despite the new sense of aggression he has adopted for this Worldwide Underground faction. Pj Black may be one of the most generous wrestlers in the ring today and we need more like him. Daga got a lot in here and came across like a devious mind in this match,...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (July 25th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and the Temple is calling… and it wants to know if you wanna take a survey.

Match #1: Jake Strong beat Sammy Guevara

This was a quick one that gave Strong the chance to dominate and get over as a wrestling machine. Strong is finally getting to do what he should have been doing in the WWE when he was Jack Swagger, but Vince would not allow it. Strong’s ankle lock is fantastic and could even rival Kurt Angle’s at this point. Sammy was great here, making a horrifying flip off the balcony onto Strong in true luchador style. Sammy may have hurt his ankle, but since it played into the finish, it may have well been part of the plan. Over-all, this was a fun way to start the show.

Match...

‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (July 19th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Impact Wrestling review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have lots of action to cover, so let’s do so.

Match #1: Killer Kross beat Petey Williams

This was a quick yet brutal match that made Kross look like a vicious sadist. Petey deserves more than just being fed to the latest flavor of the month, but at least Petey is getting on television. Kross seems to be pretty good and certainly brings a different kind of wrestling style to Impact, with more mat work and stiff chops that might be able to chop down a whole forest. Kross even did a spot where he dared Petey to attempt a Canadian Destroyer, but was able to counter the finisher and get the win.

Match #2: Desi Hit Squad beat Km and Fallah Bahh – Tag Team Match

There wasn’t too much to this match,...

Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we’ve got lots of great action to cover, so let’s do so.

Match #1: Dezmond X beat Paul London w/ The White Rabbit Tribe – Gift of the Gods Aztec Medallion Match

This match didn’t go very long, but it was good, wacky stuff. X didn’t make much of an impression with his personality, but he could always try for a stoic demeanor thing (he’s got a stare that even a corpse couldn’t beat). London must get a chuckle every now and then when he considers he once couldn’t stop laughing on camera during the “Vince McMahon died in a limo vignette”, but has ended up going farther down the rabbit hole of bizarre booking then Vince will ever attempt. Speaking of rabbit holes, London’s “Alice in Wonderland...

‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (July 12th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Impact Wrestling review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we should just jump right in.

Match #1: The OGs (Homicide and Hernandez) beat two jobbers in a Tag Team Match

My Take: The OGs beat the hell out of two jobbers until they were dust in the wind.

Match #2: Allie beat Shotzi Blackheart – Knockout’s Match

My Take: This was a solid match that featured an exciting wrestler named Shotzi Blackheart, who could be an excellent addition to the Knockout’s Division. The action was pretty even and had lots of energy. This was a solid opener.

Match #3: Eli Drake beat Grado (w/ Katarina and Joe Hendry)

My Take: Eli and Grado had a good match. Grado has come a long way in the past three years, as has Eli Drake. I don’t know what they have in mind...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (July 11th 2018)
Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review on Nerdly. This week, we have some excellent action with Joey Ryan and Mil Muertes, to name but a few. I’m Nathan Favel and we should get right to the action!

Match #1: Matanza Cueto beat Cortez Castro

My Take: This was a quick squash that Matanza won. You could piss farther than this match went.

Match #2: Ivelisse beat Joey Ryan for a Gift of the Gods Medallion

My Take: This was a good match and an infinitely better inter-gender match than either of the Asuka/James Ellsworth matches from WWE Smackdown. It’s remarkable what happens when you take a match seriously. Ryan is no stranger to working with women, as he had a great run in Pwg with Candice Larae as a tag team. I would wager that Lucha Underground is set to be the most innovative wrestling league of the year,...

Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we should get right to the action!

Match #1: Big Bad Steve lost to Jake Strong

My Take: As matches go, this was not what you would call “ambitious”. The whole idea was to introduce Jake Strong, who is the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger. Strong typically got the wrong end of the deal while working for Vince McMahon, with most of his momentum halted just as he was starting to gain some steam. Strong looks so different outside the WWE, despite having an identical look to his WWE days. It could be said that Strong’s training for Bellator has had an effect on his confidence (and that’s likely true) but I’d argue that it’s simply a thrill for any wrestler to go to work without having to run...

‘Lucha Underground’ Review (June 27th 2018)
Here’s your Lucha Underground Season 4, episode 3, review for Wednesday June 27th 2018:

Match #1: Xo Lishus beat Jack Evans

Regularly known as Sonny Kiss, this was Xo Lishus’s debut. With a vibrant personality and a buoyant move-set, Xo took on Jack Evans, one of wrestling’s best aerialists and all-around fighters. Evans was a heel here, which never seems to be the way the people want him, but Lucha Underground isn’t very flexible in the way they book their faces and heels, so its just some-thing he’s stuck with. These two matched up really well, Evans leap from corner to corner like a maniac and Xo bouncing around like a peacock colored pin-ball. I’m glad to see that Lu doesn’t have a problem with putting over new stars on the first night, especially ones who look like Vince McMahon’s worst nightmares come true.

King Cuerno tells Catrina she cannot have the Gauntlet of the Gods on Lucha Underground
In our teaser clip for the second episode of Lucha Underground, Catrina is sapped of her life force and looking for the trophy Gauntlet of the Gods, the hand that could strike down the descendants of the seven Aztec tribes. King Cuerno pops in and tells her pointedly that he has given the trophy to someone else for safekeeping…and that he doesn’t give a s*** about Catrina’s life force. Suddenly, she disappeared and we are left with a night of Antonio wrangling the late Dario’s bad brother, the monster Matanza in the new Temple. Will the Trios Champions, Willie Mack, […]

WWE Releases Wrestler Big Cass
WWE has released wrestler Big Cass.

“WWE has come to terms on the release of William Morrissey (Big Cass),” the pro-wrestling promotion said in a (very brief and entirely unsentimental) statement.

The former Colin Cassidy’s former tag team partner Enzo Amore was fired from WWE in January following a rape accusation.

The release comes two days after Cass wrestled his last match at the company’s “Money In The Bank” PPV event, losing to fan favorite Daniel Bryan. It was Cass’ first major program in the company after returning from an injury, in which the seven-foot wrestler mocked Bryan for his smaller size.

Big Cass and Amore found cult popularity after being paired as a tag team in 2013 while performing for WWE’s developmental promotion, Nxt.

They made their television debut in April 2016 the...

The Story of ‘Lucha Underground’ and TV’s Bloodiest Wrestling Match Ever
Gilbert Cosme in Lucha Underground (2014)
With a towel shrouding his face, pro wrestler Shane Strickland is helped to an ambulance waiting outside the abandoned Boyle Heights factory where he just brawled for more than half an hour. His back is covered in fresh wounds shiny with blood and small, glimmering pieces of broken glass.

Over his shoulder, stage crews sweep away shards on which his body was repeatedly slammed, with cruel abandon. Among the debris carted away is a broken medical stretcher with a large chunk of human skin on it, a pile of broken tables, dented metal chairs, and several yards of barbed wire. A woman hoses down a blood-stained wrestling ring for the third time this evening.

Scattered around the ambulance are dozens of Strickland’s fans, who offer stunned applause and cuss-filled cheers as his wounds are treated. In one dripping, sanguified hand, Strickland holds a black mask that bears a marksman’s crosshairs on the front.

‘Never Leave Alive’ Review
Stars: John Hennigan, Michelle Taylor, Eric Etebari, Joseph Gatt, J. Michael Evans | Written by J. Amanda Sabater | Directed by Steven Lamorte

Never Leave Alive is the latest star vehicle for wrestler/actor John Hennigan (who wrestled for WWE under the name John Morrison, and currently wrestles for Tna and Lucha Underground as Johnny Impact and Johnny Mundo respectively), who has parlayed his in-ring skills into leading man status in a number of action movies such as Hercules Reborn and his passion project Boone: The Bounty Hunter.

His latest film sees Hennigan playing world-renown hunter Rick Rainsford, who boat capsizes, leaving him trapped on a deserted island with his reluctant companion, Anna. While attempting to save another gravely injured survivor the pair find themselves hunted by Zaroff, a sociopathic ex-kgb Agent along with his partner Ivan. In spite of their differences Rick and Anna must work together to disarm Zaroff’s deadly traps,...
