Each series of the show so far has covered two books from Cornwell's series. The first series covers the first two books, 'The Last Kingdom' and 'The Pale Horseman'. Series two covers the events of 'Lords of the North' and 'Sword Song', while series three adapts 'The Burning Land' and 'Death of Kings'.
The symbols for the Danes/Vikings is wrong. It is well documented that they used raven images on their flags and other things. The reason is the raven is Odin's messenger in Norse mythology.
