Bella Thorne has been making the transition from acting to directing and she’s opening up about her past experiences about being disappointed as an actor.
The 27-year-old actress admits that wasn’t happy with the result of “almost every movie” that she’s ever been in. She opened up during a recent interview on SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live.

There’s never a dull moment and acting there’s a lot of waiting around. And yeah, when you know you do something and then you have to let it go, that’s as much as you can care about it is when you caring about at that moment and as soon as that moment...

Sharing a meal with family and friends is all well and good as far as Christmas celebrations go, but for the film lovers among us, it's the perfect time to hibernate in front of the television with a cozy blanket and mug of hot chocolate with a watch-list of some of the greatest Christmas films ready to go. While not every cinephile finds satisfaction out of the genre, it's a time so magical that everything from horror films, '80s action, and even German Impressionism can all find a place in Christmas films.
Ranging from the corny and ridiculous to generational classics, Christmas films have introduced to us some of cinema's most memorable characters. The traditional George Baileys and multiple Santa Clauses hit us in the feels and remind us of the season's merriment, while the Christmas-adjacent Gizmos and John McClanes grant us the space to clench, laugh, and gasp with festive cheer.

What happens when a quirky, blood-soaked horror-comedy suddenly finds itself in front of a global streaming audience? It becomes a surprise hit—again. That’s exactly what’s happening with Ready or Not, a 2019 sleeper hit that’s now taking Netflix’s global charts by storm. The film, which grossed $57.6 million on a modest $6 million budget during its theatrical run, is proving that some stories only get better with time.
Starring the fiercely talented Samara Weaving, Ready or Not mixes dark comedy, slasher thrills, and a sharp critique of societal norms. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett—also known as the duo behind the latest Scream films—the movie follows Grace, a bride who must survive her wedding night after discovering her new in-laws’ horrifying secret: they’re hunting her as part of a deadly ritual.

The recently resurrected Anchor Bay Entertainment will release a trio of new indie horror films on Blu-ray and DVD on December 10: Crust, Cursed in Baja, and Abruptio.
Character actor Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) makes his feature directorial debut on Crust, an offbeat horror-comedy about a sock monster that he co-wrote with Jim Wald.
Whalen stars with Daniel Roebuck (Terrifier 3), Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and Ricky Dean Logan (Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare).
In Crust, “Vegas Winters is a former child star who owns a laundromat. One of the benefits of running the place is finding all the leftover socks from his customers, which Vegas uses in creative ways. After Vegas becomes the victim of bullying, he seeks refuge from the attack in the pile of socks. His pain somehow creates a monster willing to seek vengeance for Vegas.”

Rooted in the classic ‘80s horror tradition yet reimagined with fresh, inventive elements, Time Cut has found a special place in this year’s releases. Any fan of "Frasier" will know that while the titular doctor is the star of the show, the series itself would have been nothing without its ensemble. The beloved sitcom ran from 1993 to 2004 and managed to sustain its quality throughout — a rarity for any show, but certainly for sitcoms of the era if you consider that even "Friends" was cranking out some of its worst episodes by its tenth and final season.
A big part of what gave "Frasier" its durability was its ensemble, which comprised not only multiple other main characters, but also an entire world of supporting and guest characters that made Dr. Crane's world feel like a real, living place. Of course, the main cast itself was most crucial to this aspect of the series, with John Mahoney's Crane patriarch, Martin, and David Hyde Pierce's Niles, the equally fastidious yet lovable brother of Frasier, being the most integral.

Throughout the 2010s, Brian Duffield more than did his part to keep the art of the original genre movie alive and thriving. Between his screenplays for the babysitter slasher-comedy "The Babysitter," the post-apocalyptic monster adventure "Love and Monsters," and the underwater survival thriller "Underwater", Duffield emerged as one of the hottest talents in Hollywood before fully coming into his own as the writer-director behind the well-received high school horror rom-com "Spontaneous" and essentially dialogue-free alien invasion thriller "No One Will Save You" in the 2020s. But before any of that happened, the first produced film based on one of Duffield's unique scrips became something of a disaster.
The movie in question, "Jane Got a Gun," has the makings of an inventive spin on a familiar tune, much like Duffield's other work. Directed by Gavin O'Connor, the Western casts Natalie Portman as the eponymous firearm-wielding cowlady, a woman whose husband is...

The bride is back. The acclaimed wedding night horror-comedy “Ready or Not” is coming back for a sequel with lead actress Samara Weaving, who is no stranger to the genre cast in Netflix’s “The Babysitter” and the 2022 “Scream” film, among many others.
Production company Radio Silence is returning with the fan-favorite film centered around a children’s game turned deadly, along with Searchlight Pictures, who will distribute the horror movie. The film collective, also known for films like “Scream VI,” comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez, and Chad Villella.
The first movie, released in 2019, was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy and directed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett. It follows a young bride who discovers at her wedding reception that her in-laws have a peculiar game-night ritual that turns into a predator-prey, murder-spree version of Hide and Seek—all because of a deal her in-laws made with the devil.

Just a few weeks after Samara Weaving declared her interest in sequel to 2019’s Ready or Not, word comes that the Radio Silence horror flick is officially getting a follow-up…and we’re definitely ready!
While no details over plot or release schedule were announced, the Ready or Not sequel will bring back Guy Busick and R. Last month, Weaving expressed her drive in getting a Ready or Not sequel going and gave a tease of what was to come. “I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in.

Horror movies have made Satanism far more famous than it would be on its own. While some great films focus on this new religious movement, almost none of them have any interest in the actual beliefs of Satanists. Let’s give the devil his due and see what the High Priest of the Church of Satan has to say about his beliefs.
Movies don’t understand that Satanism is not about Satan
Satanism has inspired chilling horror classics like Rosemary’s Baby and The Witch alongside lighter fare such as Hocus Pocus and The Babysitter. These films are very different overall but homogenous in their portrayals of Satanism. According to these films, Satanists worship the devil and engage in supernatural rituals.
For the most part, that’s a lot of hocus pocus. There are two main Satanic groups out there: the Church of Satan and The Satanic Temple. Neither group believes in Satan,...

If you’ve heard anything at all about the film Abruptio, it’s most likely been positive, and you’ve probably wondered why you can’t find it in a theater or streaming. All of that is changing, which is a very good thing if you’re a fan of unique horror movies.
Released in 2023, Abruptio played at 37 international festivals, winning 21 awards along the way. I was lucky enough to receive a screener at that time, and I absolutely loved it. But, don’t take just my word for it. My colleague Brian Fanelli recently had the opportunity to watch Abruptio and he also gave it an extremely positive review.
Abruptio opened in select theaters on September 27, and will continue its run through at least mid-October. Hopefully, it will expand into even more theaters, because it’s a film that deserves to be seen on the big screen.

Samara Weaving has carved out a niche for herself in Hollywood as an A-list scream queen by appearing in several recent acclaimed horror movies, including 2024's Azrael. After eight years as an actor, Weaving entered the horror genre with 2017's The Babysitter. Although she has landed dramatic roles in award-winning movies like 2017's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and 2022's Babylon, much of Weaving's filmography involves the horror and thriller genre. Samara Weaving returns to the horror movie genre in 2024, and there are multiple options for where to watch Azrael in a short amount of time. After making a name for herself with horror movies like Ready or Not and The Babysitter, plus having a cameo in Scream VI, the actress is cemented as a modern scream queen. Samara Weaving's horror movies filmography grew again in 2024 thanks to Azrael, the action horror movie from the minds of director E.L. Katz (Cheap Thrills) and writer Simon Barrett.
Azrael's story is set in a world where no one speaks. The movie revolves around a cult's attempt to imprison and sacrifice Weaving's Azrael to a mysterious evil. With Azrael's reviews being mostly positive, the inherent interest for some in seeing Weaving return to horror becomes even more exciting. This is especially true considering the involvement of Shudder, the horror-focused production company behind acclaimed films like In A Violent Nature,...

With nearly a quarter of a century in Hollywood, McG is returning to his Newport Beach roots.
The Uglies director’s River Jetty Restaurant Group has been tapped as the new operator of The Lido Theater as it reopens following a restoration to its original Art Deco design, just in time to host screenings for next month’s 25th Newport Beach Film Festival.
“I grew up in Newport Beach and have a lot of great memories of The Lido,” said McG in a statement. “It’s one of the coolest things about Newport, and I love the idea of giving back to the community by bringing in eclectic new programming. I’m excited to help usher in a new era of entertainment at The Lido, especially now that it’s been restored and is more beautiful than ever.”

Samara Weaving is a horror movie icon. She burst onto the scene in and as The Babysitter, where she played the leader of a demonic cult masquerading as a sweet and upstanding resident in the suburbs. She later went on to cameo in the sequel to that Netflix release, alongside another budding horror enthusiast, Jenna Ortega. Weaving teamed up with Steven Yeun in Mayhem where they played two employees trying to resist the effects of an experimental virus that was causing everyone in their workplace to go berserk. And even if these films went under the radar of horror fans, everyone sat up and took notice when she took on a rich and murderous family in Ready or Not. She followed that up with the deliciously entertaining Guns Akimbo, alongside Daniel Radcliffe. She showed up for a brief cameo in Scream VI too. And now, she is here in and as Azrael,...

Plot: In a world where no one speaks, a devout female-led community hunts down a young woman who has escaped imprisonment. Recaptured, Azrael is due to be sacrificed to an ancient evil in the wilderness, but fights for her own survival.
Review: I’d consider Samara Weaving to be one of the best actresses working in horror. Her work in Ready or Not, The Babysitter, and Scream 6 has cemented her as a standout in the genre. Her natural charisma always shines through in her work. And she always picks such interesting roles that I’m not surprised to see her choosing one entirely lacking dialogue. But Azrael is more than just its gimmick, providing a badass new heroine and an intriguing world that I’d love to see more of.

A new sci-fi book-to-movie adaptation, Uglies, was just released on Netflix, and it is the perfect excuse to revisit one of Jenna Ortega's most underrated movies. Uglies is a brand-new sci-fi action movie starring Joey King, Brianne Tju, Chase Stokes, and Laverne Cox that is based on a 2005 young adult book series by Scott Westerfield. Uglies takes place in a dystopian future where individuals undergo intense cosmetic surgery to become more attractive. However, as 16-year-old Tally's procedure nears, she discovers what life is like outside of society's beauty standards.
Uglies is a particularly exciting release for Netflix. Not only does the film have a star-studded cast, but it also has a pre-existing fan base due to Westerfield's 2005 book. On top of that, Uglies was also in the works for nearly a decade before releasing. Though the movie was optioned in 2006, it took eight years to get it made. Now,...

Directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier (Dinner in America) from a screenplay by first-time feature writer Tom Dean, a film titled Carolina Caroline is currently in production – but rather than filming in North or South Carolina, it’s being made in Kentucky. When you first look at the cast list as reported by Deadline, you might be led to believe that this is a horror project, because in the lead roles we have genre icons Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner, who has been in the likes of Red, The Haunting in Connecticut, Jennifer’s Body, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Red State, The Walking Dead, The Cleanse, Alien Code, Ghosts of War, Smile, The Passenger; Mother, May I?; and the upcoming Smile sequel. But this one isn’t horror; it’s being described as a romantic crime thriller.

Joey King and Brianne Tju are young adults trapped in a dystopian future in which perfection is everything in Netflix's Uglies. King first broke out as a child actor with the Selena Gomez-co-starring hit Ramona and Beezus before finding further success with everything from Netflix's Kissing Booth franchise to The Act, for which she earned both an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination, and We Were the Lucky Ones. The world of horror and thriller cinema has seen its fair share of anti-heroes, from Hannibal Lecter to Patrick Bateman, but the latest entry in this dark lineage is Clare Bleecker, a teenage sociopath played by Bella Thorne in Mitzi Peirone’s sophomore feature, Saint Clare.
Based on Don Roff’s novel Clare at Sixteen, this film takes the familiar tropes of a morally ambiguous protagonist and attempts to mix them with a blend of Gothic fantasy, Southern noir, and religious symbolism. The result is a visually arresting but narratively convoluted piece that struggles to deliver on its intriguing premise.
From the outset, Saint Clare hooks its audience with the chilling declaration from Clare herself, borrowing from Joan of Arc: “Everything I have said and done has been in the hands of God. I was born to do this. I am not afraid.” It’s a bold statement that...

Last month, we learned that the North American distribution rights to the action horror film Azrael are in the hands of IFC Films and the Shudder streaming service, with IFC Films having chosen a date for the theatrical release: September 27th. If anyone’s cornered the market on cool-as-fuck genre leads, it’s Samara Weaving. Ready Or Not, Mayhem, The Babysitter; in less than a decade, the Aussie actress has fought fiercely to become the go-to heroine for ballsy, bloody and crowd-pleasing horror. Usually emerging triumphant and caked in goo after a vengeful crusade with a wry, knowing smirk, by 2024, a Samara Weaving movie is essentially its own sub-genre. And while her latest – grubby post-apocalyptic thriller Azrael – is largely still all of the above, it’s not only a very different performance, but a film that’s significantly harder going than one would expect too.

Some people say beauty is only skin deep, but what if you could change how you look at a cellular level? Would you embrace a procedure that augments your features, making you stereotypically beautiful? What if that beauty came with a one-way ticket to a society where every gorgeous person lords over those considered lesser-than? In Netflix’s Uglies trailer, Joey King stars as Tally Youngblood, a young woman awaiting her chance to become beautiful and take her place among the elite. However, when things don’t go as planned, Tally discovers a society that values natural beauty over enhanced features and snobbery.

The Taormina Film Festival kicked off this weekend with the world premiere screening of Mitzi Peirone’s Saint Clare, starring Bella Thorne, Rebecca De Mornay and Ryan Phillippe.
Introducing the movie in the hilltop Sicilian town’s open-air Teatro Antico, Thorne thanked attendees for supporting independent film “which makes our hearts soar” as well as her director for her “hardcore f*ck you I’m not gonna take no,” attitude.
This is a return to Taormina for Thorne after last year debuting a short film she directed and guest curating the festival’s ‘Influential Shorts’ evening. She’s also got a new short which screened here on Sunday, titled Unsettled.
That 15-minute film tells the real-life experience of Jason Parks, a young man who was drugged and abducted from a gay nightclub before escaping and seeking to bring his tormentors to justice. His story was not believed by authorities.

The upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie has been in development hell since 2007. Over the years, many directors, writers, producers, and stars have been attached to the project. Four major stars have circled playing He-Man, ranging from Kellan Lutz to Nicholas Galitzine.
The upcoming Masters of the Universe has seen multiple actors approached to play He-Man before exiting the project. The franchise, which features other iconic characters including She-Ra and King Randor, takes place in a sci-fi-fantasy world known as Eternia, which debuted in a line of Mattel figures with accompanying comics before being adapted into a popular animated show. He-Man, the mantle taken on by Prince Adam, is a character with superstrength (among many other heightened powers) who defends Castle Grayskull from his arch-enemy, Skeletor.

Not all horror villains are successful murderers; some like Ghostface from Scream and Annabelle relied on others for their kills. Mister Babadook and Lubdan the Leprechaun were terrifying but ultimately terrible at actually killing their intended victims. The Beast from Poltergeist failed to capitalize on opportunities to kill, making them more of a menacing presence than an effective killer.

Ready Or Not 2 can bring back Samara Weaving back as a Final Girl after her quick death in Scream 6. Weaving's return in a sequel could reverse her Scream fate and showcase her horror skills. If Ready Or Not 2 happens, the sequel will allow Weaving to shine in a prominent role and could open the door for a clever redemption scenario inspired by her Scream character's death.
Samara Weaving was memorably killed as part of Scream 6's opening kill sequence, but that can be fixed in an upcoming horror sequel of hers. The Australian actress was no stranger to the horror genre before appearing in the Scream franchise. Her past work in horror includes Ash vs. Evil Dead, Mayhem, The Babysitter movies, and Ready or Not. The latter was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmakers behind 2022's Scream and Scream 6, explaining Weaving's cameo role, where...

Emily Alyn Lind is still haunted by her work on horror movie 'Enter the Void' when she was five years old.The 'Gossip Girl' star played a young girl who sees her family killed in a car accident in the 2009 film, and she remembers the gory scenes vividly despite her young age and believes it inspired her to take on darker parts as an adult.Emily, now 21, told The Hollywood Reporter: "That [film] was such an experience in and of itself. I don’t know if it’s paranormal, but it feels like the ghost of my past at this point. I was like five years old, and it was the craziest experience.
