The setting is in Montana where some of the show is filmed however much of the show is filmed on location in Utah.

However, due to the pandemic, season 4 was filmed entirely in Montana.

Somewhere east of Bozeman, Montana. The ranch is in Park County.

Currently there is the main series. "Yellowstone". The first spin-off is the miniseries, 1883. Next is the series 1923. Other spin-off series have been announced, such as 1944 and Yellowstone 6666. But neither have aired yet.

As for the viewing order, thus far it isn't terribly important which order you watch them in, but you may appreciate the prequels more if you watch Yellowstone first.

It can be recommended to watch the first 3 seasons of Yellowstone and then watch 1883, as season 4 of Yellowstone has flashbacks to the 1800s that reveal the fates of characters from 1883. Then it's recommended to watch 1923 any time after season 4 of Yellowstone.

Season 5 was originally meant to be 16 episodes. With a 6th season likely being the last. Season 5A aired with 8 episodes. With the intention to take a small hiatus and then complete Season 5B. However, contract disputes with Kevin Costner had delayed production beginning on 5B. Then the SAG-AFTRA strike happened, leading to an even further delay. Earlier in 2024, when promoting his film, Horizon: An American Saga, Costner said he would be willing to return to the series under the right circumstances. However, in June 2024, Costner announced that he officially would not be returning to the series.

Taylor Sheridan said he and the writers were having difficulty getting it written. Likely because it was announced it would now be the end of the series and with Costner's departure, it will likely be difficult to write a satisfying conclusion without the central character.
