Per Variety, the acclaimed director is confirmed to have passed away. Foley's passing came earlier this week, and was brought about by an ongoing bout of brain cancer. The news was reported via a representative for Foley speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.

Born in Bay Bridge, Brooklyn before growing up in Staten Island, Foley graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo before attending the University of Southern California and acquiring his M.F.A. in film study and production. Another “Suits” alum is coming to “Suits LA.” Variety has learned exclusively that David Costabile is set to appear on the recently-launched NBC series, reprising the role of Daniel Hardman.

Costabile will appear in a guest star role in a future episode, but exact details are being kept under wraps. He will be the latest original “Suits” actor to appear on “Suits LA,” joining both Gabriel Macht and Rick Hoffman.

In the original series, Hardman was formerly a partner at Pearson Hardman before he was forced out of the firm when it was discovered he was embezzling money to finance an affair, originally claiming he was doing so to help his dying wife. He would appear throughout the course of the show in various attempts to take over the firm and cause problems for Harvey and Jessica.

The withdrawn San Francisco drama, about lonely nonbinary nanny and restaurant server Cass (Asia Kate Dillon), is simple in its presentation, but disguises numerous layers to its story. These eventually unravel, and build to an emotional wallop. When work crush Kalli (Louisa Krause) suddenly leaves town, Cass is placed in charge of her quiet but headstrong 11-year-old daughter, Ari (Ridley Asha Bateman). The longer Kalli stays away, the more Cass is forced to reckon not just with the possibility that Ari has been abandoned, but with their own childhood abandonment, which continues to ripple in the present.

This straightforward plot is often broken up by poetic interludes, made up of languid shots of a changing cityscape. Once a bustling queer capital, the inequality plaguing San Francisco has reached something of a breaking point. On one side stand tech company high rises.

A sometime sex worker longs for love in director/writer/star Annapurna Sriram’s chaotic debut feature film, Fucktoys. We meet AP (Sriram) mid-tarot reading, sitting in the middle of a swamp, listening to the wisdom of a psychic played by iconic rapper, Big Freedia. Desperate to make a positive turn in her life, AP begs for a solution to her overall ills, to which the tarot woman immediately shoots back: it’s gonna be $1,000 and she’s going to have to slit the throat of a lamb. In possession of neither a lamb, nor $1,000, AP now has a quest, and she will not be denied. Because the world does not feel dystopian enough, “Black Mirror” is finally releasing its Season 7 premiere date. The sci-fi anthology from Charlie Brooker will return on April 10 with six new episodes.

This new season will contain a previously announced followup to the Emmy-winning “USS Callister” starring Cristin Milioti. Fittingly, the trailer for this new season starts with Milioti’s Lieutenant Cole gasping as an unseen voice says “We’d like to welcome you back.”

The trailer then cycles between clips of wild scenarios that are never fully explained. One minute, a man is putting on a Batman mask. The next, Issa Rae is being transported into a black-and-white world filled with AI people. Still the next, Rashida Jones collapses like a powered off robot while pitching cereal in front of a class of children. You know, classic “Black Mirror” stuff.

But the most exciting part of this first trailer does...

Once upon a time, mostly in the 1980s and 90s, the downtown Manhattan indie movie was a thing. Films like Jim Jarmusch’s Permanent Vacation, Edo Bertoglio’s Downtown 81, Larry Clark’s Kids and, later on, early Safdie brothers efforts like The Pleasure of Being Robbed were gritty off-the-cuff street features made on tiny budgets, shouldered by directors looking to capture the weird and wild world below 14th Street.

Even the latest NYC-set Safdie joint (directed by Josh Safdie in his first solo effort) is an epic period piece, starring Timothée Chalamet, with a budget estimated between $50-$70 million.

Over 40 years after bringing fans along for the ride in Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party, Cameron Crowe has unearthed long-lost footage of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

The result is the filmmaker’s remastered documentary, Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party, now streaming on Paramount+. It features never-before-seen 16mm footage shot during the rock-and-roll band’s Long After Dark era from 1982 to 1983. Per the logline, the music documentary “is a fun, candid, fast-paced, and musically rich ride with America’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll band, a time capsule of the dawn of the MTV era, and a rare and shining glimpse into Tom Petty’s lasting creative genius.”

With a title like “Fucktoys,” Annapurna Sriram’s directorial debut boldly announces its wild intentions. A provocative name like that has been known to backfire, especially as it can over-inflate one’s expectations for the gonzo filmmaking they’re about to witness. But Sriram’s movie — a grotesque odyssey through a place called Trashtown, which has shades of New Orleans and a hint of Los Angeles — is at least impressively strange. It’s the kind of project that, despite some flaws, allows Sriram to stake her claim as a filmmaker to watch, with a distinctive voice that mashes up rockabilly aesthetics with Tarot mysticism and an incredible dig at James Franco. This is the kind of thing you want to see at a festival like SXSW: Messy, but wholly original in its genre mashup.

As an actress, Sriram appeared on the likes of “Billions” and “The Blacklist,” shows that are tonally miles apart from “Fucktoys.

Rlje Films has acquired “Neighborhood Watch,” a crime thriller starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jack Quaid and Malin Akerman. The film was directed by Duncan Skiles, who is best known for his work on “The Clovehitch Kiler.” It was previously entitled “Nowhere Men.” The rights will cover North America. Rlje Films plans to release “Neighborhood Watch” in theaters and on demand on April 25, 2025.

The film follows Simon (Quaid), a young man grappling with mental illness, who becomes convinced that he has witnessed an abduction. When he reports it to the police and they refuse to believe him, he reluctantly seeks the help of his neighbor Ed (Morgan), a retired security guard with a troubled past. As two try to unravel the mystery, they are forced to confront the dark secrets surrounding the disappearance, as well as grapple with their own issues.

Annapurna Sriram has a lengthy showbiz resume, acting in massive series like “The Blacklist” and “Billions,” indie films and other projects. Yet, after a childhood obsessed with daring cinema from auteurs like John Waters, she didn’t feel she was living up to her creative potential.

“As an actor who is ethnically ambiguous, I was getting pigeonholed into a lot of really boring, sort of racial stereotypes,” Sriram says. “‘You’re the brown girl with a headscarf whose parents have an arranged marriage. You’re the doctor in this.’ So I felt like that didn’t excite me, and if I wanted to be a doctor, I’d just be a doctor. I’d make a lot more money, and my parents wouldn’t stress out so much.”

So began the long genesis of “Fucktoys,” her debut feature which is set to premiere tonight at the SXSW TV & Film Festival.

Exclusive: NBC’s Suits LA will welcome Rick Hoffman later this season, reprising the role of Louis Litt he originated in the mothership series, USA Network’s Suits. Sources close to production confirm he will appear in one episode this season with the potential to return for more if NBC picks up the Aaron Korsh-created legal drama for a second season.
