MILF: A Darker Side

Kendo, the British fetish pornographer called "Kenny" by star Franki in the BTS short subject on this DVD, created a signature style built around what he termed "splintered editing", and it reaches its apotheosis in this hit-or-miss daring! Media release. I enjoyed the goofiness of his experiment, but it was hardly satisfying.

Though wedded to 21st Century porn's insistence on "individual scenes" (fostered by the industry's awards bodies which have for many years handed out kudos to nonsensical chunks of shows like "Best Group Sex Scene" or "Best Scene with a Dwarf in Drag"), Kendo thumbs his nose at this irreversible trend by mixing big chunks of each of his five sex vignettes into each other's vignette listed on the DVD menu. For me the problem with this approach is his usual insistence on repeating the same footage and imagery over & over, a gimmick I have a total aversion to in Adult Cinema ever since the '70s and '80s when sex footage was often looped to pad the running time (ugh!).

That's not Ken's goal, but rather to overlay a sense of artiness on what is essentially his usual fetish approach. There are some big-busters on display, notably title roler Tiffany Kingston plus fellow blonde Ashley Downs, but what matters to Kenneth Docherty is the tactile fetish nature of his extreme groin close-ups of fingering action, or hosiery and lingerie rubbed. Show is strictly in pantomime (you have to watch the BTS to see the cast speak, notably a mockery of Kai Taylor becoming tongue tied when he cannot recall simple words like "category"), and reaches a high point when Downs' mouth is covered by her partner Kane Turner with a black stocking, upon which he deposits his spunk. Both Turner and Taylor are ex-boxers, and more embarrassment occurs in the BTS when the interviewer over-stresses a dubious resemblance between Kane and Jason Statham, even to the point of pondering whether Statham watches Kane's porn videos (NOT!). Low point of the BTS is letting Jess West expound on how wonderful and liberating working in porn is, with the usual proselytizing extending to her defense (but not for her) of "escort" activities, porn euphemism for prostitution.

Best aspect of the show predictably for me was Franki and her amazing stubby nipples. Her anal scene with Taylor is telegraphed by a slice being shown, in splintered fashion, at the beginning of the show, while the pair's tryst is later spread out into many, many individual chunks. So to hell with streaming individual scenes (or nominating them for dubious awards) -Kendo has reinvented (in the editing room) the porno wheel of a "feature" from the building blocks of individual vignettes!
