The title Into The Woods is a reference to a musical about fairy tales, including Cinderella. In this episode the Penguin is placed in the position of working as a servant in his deceased father's house, serving his step-mother and step-siblings, just like Cinderella.

Goofs
Nygma calculates the odds of Gordon finding Penguin (80%) plus the chances of Penguin telling him (80%) adding them in a 60% total chance of Gordon finding Kringle. As chances are conditional (one has to happen before the other can happen) the correct way of calculating is by multiplying them (resulting in a 64% total chance). A scientific mind such as Nygma's wouldn't make that mistake.
