When Breaking Bad introduced Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman / Jimmy McGill, I was fascinated. A sleazy lawyer? Surely you jest. Nope. He is played as the epitome of sleaze. Didn't know sleaze could be brilliant.
I thought the series "Better Call Saul" wouldn't do justice to the character.
I expected a pantomime of the original.
I couldn't have been more wrong. The series gives life to Saul Goodmam, a fascinating individual. Through the many plot lines, Saul is consistent. Bending a few rules, he remains kind, funny and sympathetic. He knows us, he gets us. He's a hero of the working class. Ya gotta love the guy.
Michael McKean plays Chuck McGill, the brother of Saul. At first, we don't know why he lives in the dark. He believes he suffers from electromagnetic hypersensitivity and is on leave from his partnership in the law firm Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill.
Debra Rhea Seehorn plays Kimberly Wexler. She portrays an overlooked lawyer at Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. Her finesse as the ultimate business executive doesn't diminish her sense of fun and adventure.
I've almost finished Season two. It's nice seeing Jonathon Banks again as ex-cop Mike Ehrmantraut, whom we met in Breaking Bad. He is committed to redeeming his workmas a dirty cop. He wants to do the right thing.
Ed Begley Jr plays Clifford Main, a partner in the law firm Davis and Main. He takes a chance hiring Saul, only to disrespect his individualism and terminate his employment.
The writers, actors and film crew give us a cohesive series filled with unique sensibilities.
I'm vested in the characters and will watch the series through its completion.
