| Un-Happy Holidays!
Holidays is altogether a big disappointment. Not only are the stories less then entertaining, but my main disappointment lies in the fact that many of the important holidays were omitted. There are, for an example, no stories that will cover New Years Day. Or Memorial Day. Independence Day? No story for that, either. I believe that is what I found to be more comedic then terrifying, about Holidays...the movie begins in sequence with holidays that start at the beginning of the year, each story following the calendar months respectively. From the "Fathers Day" segment, however, were fast forwarding already to the "Halloween" segment, making you believe you actually missed something, however, it is clear that we missed nothing. On the bright side, none of the stories over stay their welcome, and I'm sure everyone has their own favorite. If you're curious which story is Kevin Smith's, that would be "Halloween", one of my personal favorites, and that is not saying much. I wouldn't say any of these stories are good, since they all leave you with that feel at the end of each segment: "What was the point of that?" There are few laughs, few scares ( although the Easter segment was very disturbing, in my opinion.) I felt Holidays was a disorganized mess, and rushed in the making, and the titles of the stories backs that theory up quite well. The movie opens up with "Valentines Day", which is also dubbed "Give Me Your Heart." It's the only story I saw that actually had a second title, from there, they don't even bother titling them, there just called "Mothers Day", "Fathers Day", and so on, and so forth. The Saint Patricks Days segment is a complete rip off off of another movie, and you'll know which one it is, because they even mention it. ( And no, it's not Leprechaun.) All in all, I think Holidays is a total bust, each story is equally upsetting, tasteless, and just flat out unoriginal. More disappointing then anything, it's just the simple fact that each story completely misses the theme of the holiday that it is covering, and there's nothing more let down then that! The "Halloween" story, for example, has nothing to do with kids going trick or treating. The "Christmas Day" has nothing to do with Santa...and so on, and so forth. Whatever they were aiming for, I would safely assume it fails on all levels. In all fairness, Holidays will have mixed reviews, and this one is just one of them.
