A Darkness Surrounds Him
I guess it is no coincidence that Outcast is set in a town called Rome, West Virginia. It is meant to make you think of the other Rome and the Vatican.
Philip Glenister gets to practice is American accent again. He plays a priest and exorcist Reverend Anderson. He questioned his beliefs but after an encounter with Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit) he discovered his calling. Small houses, all over the world are plagued with demonic possession.
Troubled Kyle has returned to Rome. His sister welcomes him, people all around him are wary of him. Kyle's mother and wife were both possessed. Townsfolk think he is to blame.
Kyle helps out the Reverend who is treating a boy who is possessed. It seems Kyle is the one who makes a breakthrough, something in him can repel the demons.
It is easy to see in the opening episode that Outcasts owes a lot to The Exorcist. It is a dark fantasy horror series.
You have children possessed, you have a child being hit hard so they expel their demonic ectoplasm. It is darkness in the edge of town.
With washed out colours, the opening episode is grim rather than Grimm Fairy Tales.
