  • If you appreciated the rebellious act that Hugh Laurie gave in House, MD then this show is for you, it has the same amount of rebellion, just toned down a lot. Despite what the critics and audience say if you give it a chance to evolve and explain itself the more you will like it. It's filled with interesting medical cases that at times take drastic turns, but these plot twists will make sense towards the end. It's a show that helps define girl power in the medical field, it has the right amount of dose of humor and sarcasm. Showing you that at times you have to break the rules and take chances even if it means there is a small chance that everything will be okay, or in this case, that everyone will survive. NBC already has two medical shows, both holding their own, both giving us the right amount of drama and blood, and characters to get hooked on, like this show does too. You can easily add this one onto the list of medical t.v dramas you don't mind watching. With just the right amount of silver linings, humor, sarcasm, medical talk, cases, and procedures, and a big giant amount of sticking the middle finger at authority. It is a light hearted medical drama that keeps you watching and wanting more.
  • Dr. Alexandra Panttiere (Melissa George) is a rebellious heart surgeon in St. Matthew's Hospital. Dr. Pierce Harrison (Dave Annable) is her boyfriend. Dr. Jesse Shane (Don Hany) is her long time crush. Max is her gay ex-husband with her kids. Millicent Silvano (Shelley Conn) is her suffering boss trying to keep her out of trouble. Dr. Callahan (Jamie Kennedy) is the sleazy womanizer and nurse Ji-Sung struggles to keep from falling for him.

This show tries so hard to do so many different things. It's trying too hard to be wacky. As a medical show, it has the serious side. On top of everything, it's trying desperately to be 'Grey's Anatomy'. I would prefer it does less of the silly stuff. They mostly come off as stupid. It's different from being fun. I wish the best for Melissa George but the show has saddled her with too many connected characters. It's as if the showrunners figured more is better. This could have been one more functional medical show but it's juggling with too many balls in the air.
  • OK.. so it takes them all of eight episodes into the series to get to the real 'heart' of her personal story... and where it goes from here, we'll just have to wait see if it winds up to be anti-climatic. Have to give the production a bit of credit though.. it started off pretty routine, not so much different than a whole slew of similar medical-drama offerings ... but working it's way through the lead character's recent life history to get to this point, it did generate increasing interest.

Should it proceed the way it's now looking, the audience will be polarized.. as not many mainstream story lines fade to black with a three-way permanent relationship. The cast is solid.. and the story appears as if it will hold up through the ten episode season. Will there be any more? Viewers liking it much more than early critics, and George does a lot to try and pull it through. Guess the final couple episodes might hint at an answer.... (gets-cancelled).

Should the professional critics get an opportunity to rewrite their comments, it would be interesting to see how they now compare. PS... and as for trying to 'love' and have sex with two people at the same time... yea right!!! ... just see how well in 'real-life' that goes over on your partner/ spouse.
  • Before this program got off the ground, I read today it was canceled. I really thought this show would be like Grey's Anatomy and go for a decade or more. I really liked it and was telling everyone to watch it; they felt the same way.

Now, it's canceled and I'm shocked. Surely, another network or Netflix, etc. could pick it up and keep it going.

Melissa George is great. Dave Annable is playing yet another doctor with a heart of gold; this time with more spunk. To have D.L. Hughley, a comedian, playing the psychiatrist is brilliant casting. The back stories were great. The family at home was great with its twist.

Don't let this show disappear! Keep it going on some other channel with people who know good network television when they see it.
  • This was one of the top medical shows ever. Imo better than ER. It is based on a true story. The story lines were really good and it got me so hyped up. They need to bring it back and pick up where it left off.

BRING IT BACK!! I want to know what happened in Vegas!!!!

    Warning: Spoilers
I'm not one to dismiss a show after the pilot episode unless it's absolutely unwatchable. The pilot of Heartbeat wasn't great. Dr. Panettiere is an amalgamation of different TV doctor tropes, particularly 1 part House, 1 part Mindy(including a handsome British doctor), and 2 parts Grey's Anatomy. In the pilot, we see a flashback to our main character's first day on the job at her hospital, where she disguised herself as a different doctor so she could assist in a surgery because she thought the surgeon was dreamy. In the real world, a doctor committing an act of fraud like that would be in a lot of trouble, especially one just starting her career. But since this is a TV show, the handsome British doctor was impressed by her and happened to be wearing a t-shirt with a picture of her ex-husband, who by the way is a famous rock star. And apparently a famous rock star who has nothing better to do than hang around the house all day cooking for her and taking care of their kids. You know, like a typical rock star does.

Anyway, the show clearly has good medical consultants, because that part of the show was well done. So I decided to give Hearbeat a second chance.

    And here's what Heartbeat did:

They started the second episode with our lead character getting a fire truck to fake an emergency so she could follow them and drive her Porsche over the speed limit. And when she gets to the hospital, the administrator that she frequently clashes with decides to overlook the gross misuse of emergency workers because she got to look at hunky firefighters. The plot of the episode was even worse. A pair of middle-aged soul-singing conjoined twins come into the hospital and find out one of them has cancer. Did I mention one of the twins is a lesbian and the other is straight?

Two episodes was enough for me. The show isn't funny enough to be a comedy, but it has a light-hearted attitude that keeps it from being a believable drama. Everything gets wrapped up neatly, and no one really has to deal with consequences from their misbehavior aside from briefly hurt feelings. Add in the ridiculous soap opera touches, and it's just a mess of a show that betrays the solid cast they assembled.

  • Irritatingly bad: cliché upon cliché.

Alex Panttiere (played by Melissa George) is a cardiothoracic surgeon, and a very good one. She has just been appointed to a senior role at a major hospital. While this brings more responsibility, it does not dull her rebelliousness nor unconventional methods.

Incredibly unoriginal. Every medical drama stereotype and cliché is regurgitated here, over and over and over. Dialogue makes you think every character should have been played by John Wayne, it is that over-the-top.

Plot is largely implausible, contrived and predictable and and acting rather hammy.

Melissa George deserves better. As for the remaining cast: I think they've found the maximum level of their abilities and careers...

Love this show! Why is it canceled? It's hard to create a special character, you have one now. Season 2 please!!!!!!
  • Loved loved loved it!! I am not a fan of Melissa George, esp with her view on Australia, but the guys are so great and she is actually great in this too. The relationships in this series are just inspirational, they make you want better for you and your friends and your family, and even strangers. . Only just got going as a series and it's gone. I want it back!! Please bring it back somebody!

They've taken the formula and just not done it very well. Take lots of good looking people, put them in a hospital, see what happens. I don't like to criticise individual actors and sometimes scripts and directors aren't ideal but some of the work in this show is very poor.
  • Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this advertised I was ready to write it off but I thought, what the hell watch a couple of episodes just to see, I watched the pilot and and thought it was laughably bad (I immediately renamed the main character bimbette in my mind) then I picked a random episode (number 8) to see if they ever found their way it did after all contain a story about Bimbette's own father needing treatment so we might get some good character development, they did not, the episode in question was terrible.

The entire premise of this series seems to be a love triangle that no one cares about, neither pairing is any good and the 'chemistry' is non-existent. The worst part for me is when Bimbette goes on about how the scariest part in the wizard of Oz was the realisation that there was no Oz... (oops does that count as a spoiler?) it was supposed to tell us about her as a person and all I got from it was that she was pretentious.

If I could give this a minus score I would, if you want good medical drama stick to House, Casualty (a brit series), Greys Anatomy or even some old school ER.

Lemme see if I can sum up an overview: "House", "Gray's Anatomy", "Scrubs", meets "General Hospital", with a twist of "The Fosters" . It doesn't work - feels like it's all been done before. I like another person's review where they commented how many times Dr. P would have been in super trouble, if not at the least have her medical license under review. Just my opinion, however I am one of the most average people ever, so I am pretty sure there are many others who don't care for the show either. Oh yeah, I almost forgot one of the most annoying things is her accent - she can't hide it although she tries (Melissa George, who is from Australia - in case you were not aware). View at your own peril.

    next!
If you love political correctness and shallow characters then this is a must-see. If not, it's a hard pass. Hard-pass for me ~
  • I did enjoy the first episodes of this show, but it felt like it took a long time for the show to really dig into the personal life of the main character. And by the time they did, the show got cancelled. It's only one season, and the ending is way rushed. I think it had potential, but it's not worth the time for anyone to watch just this one season.
