I watched "Woman in Motion" with a series of emotions (lots of crying) with my young daughters. The film is fantastic! I admired Nichelle Nichols since I was a child. Watching her in Star Trek made me love Science Fiction even more and I always dreamed of the things that I could do. The future indeed seemed promising. She was a singer, dancer, a theater star, a movie and tv icon. This movie covered the importance of her role in Star Trek, as well as the array of efforts that she spearheaded in STEM - most notably helping to promote and diversify NASA. Thank you Nichelle Nichols, for everything you have done. She helped to change the world.

To say Nichelle Nichols is inspiring is an understatement! One of the best documentaries I have ever had the privilege to see and share with students.

The film shows you just how far, essentially anybody, can go in life. Nichelle played a vital role in creating a more diverse space program, and arguably a more diverse and fair country as well.

Before I watched the movie I never knew who Nichelle Nichols was and that she was the one who did the real work to get NASA to where it is now. We definitely need more films like this to show young people that there is more than what you see on the HollyWood screen. It can and will inspire every aspiring space enthusiast to just be who they are, and not be pulled back by anything and anybody from pursuing their dreams. The amount of research the producers of this film did and the limits they defied to make this film is unthinkable. The only word that I could think of for this film is "speechless". Nichelle Nichols's mark in history will be a beacon to any man, woman and minority to ever exist on this blue marble.

Uhura to literally change the face of the U. S space program. Her tireless recruitment of Blacks, women, and candidates from other underrepresented groups for NASA's astronaut corps in the 1970s and 80s helped make America's presence in space more diverse and inclusive.
Entertaining and inspiring, the movie conveys Nichols' optimistic belief that, when anyone, celebrity or not, sees something wrong in society, they can help make it right. All can answer the sacred vocation of building a more generous, compassionate, and just present and future.

It went beyond Star Trek and NASA and into the issues of women's rights and racial inclusion in the society of the 60's and 70"s. When Nichelle asked, "Where are my people?", she was voicing the absence of both these forces in our country at this time. What she accomplished was truly a miracle for any woman but especially for a black woman at this point in time.

jpatel122 March 2021Nichelle Nichols is an inspirational and exhilarating persona. She believed and encouraged herself from day one and continued to pursue her dream of becoming a ballerina. Usually, people study for one career and stick to it throughout their life. However, she went from being a ballerina to a Star Trek actress to a NASA scientist. She taught me to believe in myself. I am surprised and shocked that I have never heard about her personality before. Nichelle Nichols showed that nothing is impossible; everything is possible, as long as you have faith and hope in yourself. Nichelle Nichols changed the view of gender in NASA. She introduced the role of women in NASA. In the astronaut testing for NASA, the women had outperformed the men. This showed that we shouldn't underestimate women's ability in life. Not only did she introduce the role of women in NASA, but she also introduced the role of people of minority descent. She was one of the first African-Americans to have a job at NASA. She motivated many African-Americans to come to NASA and become astronauts or any other job. She trained hundreds of entrants to become astronauts. After watching this film, my curiosity increased to learn more about the role of gender and race in NASA.

ksonistudent2 March 2021I found the film to be inspirational and eye-opening. Nichelle Nichols changed space travel. She was able to recruit many women and people of other races. Her efforts in recruiting them brought even more people to try and join NASA. She did this all single-handedly, probably against many who doubted her success. I did not know her story, and I don't think it is as known as it should be, so this was a very eye-opening experience.

Back in the 50s and 60s NASA only had white male astronauts and she helped diversify with women and African Americans. Nichelle Nichols never got the attention that she deserved and this documentary will help show why she is a very important figure in NASA.

She is responsible for recruiting many of the most important astronauts of the last couple of decades with the program including Charles Bolden Jr., Sally Ride, and Guion Bluford. I'm glad I saw the film, as this is the first time I've heard about Nichols' efforts.
