I'm a loyal Dana Vespoli admirer, both of her acting performances and direction. Besides acting, in recent years she has bifurcated her directing career between a series of excellent lesbian features made for Sweetheart Video and shown her outré fetish chops in uninhibited Dana Vespoli Presents videos for John Stagliano's Evil Angel label, of which this "in your face" title is representative.

This project keeps Dana's hand in (pun intended) as an obstreperous and defiant porno rebel, far removed from the staid (but immensely) rewarding Couples approach adhered to for a decade now over at Sweetheart. Stagliano places no censorship over content - obviously he would nix kiddie porn for his label. So Vespoli is free to indulge, and self-indulgence is the name of the game here.

Witness to the point is the vignette in which she stars, playing meanie to cute kid Aidra Fox. Vespoli's character maintains a straight face spewing venomous dialog and mistreating Fox, with the proviso so ingrained in porn fans: the kid loves it. Dana dips into her porn toolkit to use a speculum to dilate Fox's anus and proceeds to work her over pretty good. In the helpful BTS short subject we discover Dana's views on gaping, a practice she likes to employ in her performances and still an acquired taste beyond my grasp as voyeur. Her odd sense of humor surfaces with her ad lib line: "At your age I was in love with Tom Selleck".

Other vignettes, nearly all shot in single-camera, continuous take reminiscent of Hitchcock's failed "Rope" experiment, take the same tack, quite repetitive: nasty step-mom abuses cute daughter on some phony pretext.

Best at this sort of black humor nonsense is Dana DeArmond, who has thoroughly blurred the line between her kinky characters and her real personality. Lola Foxx is the recipient of her cruelty, and staged in a blank hallway the scene didn't get me thrilled (as opener to the video) to sit through six hours of the same-oh, same-oh, given that Dana has cranked out 3 volumes of this junk for Johnny Stag already.

Julia Ann, once so ethereally beautiful as the lesbian second banana (pun almost intended) to Janine over two decades back, is frankly flustered at portraying a baddie, stumbling as she attempts to make up mean lines of dialog while her counterpart Casey Calvert dominates their scene acting-wise. Calvert's famous preference for anal action, with much larger cocks employed in her usual scenes than the toys Julia uses here, makes their finale an anti-climax.

Which leaves the best vignette of the show, well-matched "girls in glasses" Sovereign Syre and plain-Jane (but with beautiful natural breasts) Serena Blair. Syre's underplaying is a welcome contrast to the hamminess that becomes part and parcel to these improvised "get nasty" exercises in Dana's Lesbian Actors Studio romps.
