Disappointed. I liked parts of the movie however it seemed to fall apart it could have been great perhaps it was rushed due to cash running out.Parts needed rewriting so everything flowed better, leading role was convincing as were most characters, wardrobe had some obvious flaws, more money more time is always the battle.

I quite liked it, but I usually like most fairytale films.. sure, it's no masterpiece, plenty of flaws and you can tell this film didn't have the highest budget, (the make up in particular is horrendous) but all in all an entertaining, adventurous fairytale film. There was one thing that really bothered me though: Debra Messing. Oh boy was that a big casting mistake! She was nowhere near an Irish or Scottish, or whatever she was going for, accent. She painfully destroyed every scene she was in. Other than that - great fun!
  • Camera, lighting, art dept & locations looked great! Unfortunately, the overall storytelling & tone lacked a steady hand. Great work by the editor BTW who cut nonsensical scenes together coherently. The pacing is maddening as new characters are introduced too fast to grasp all the new lore they try to add with walls of exposition. Costumes look like they were made or bought yesterday. Story jumped all over the place from present day to dreamscapes to fantasy world to portal to music montages and more. I'm not sure what this was supposed to be- Comedy? Adventure?
  • A suggestion to the "movie critics" here: when you intentionally choose to watch a film made for children and younger teens, it's a little goofy to rate it low because it turns out to be a film for children and young teens-- and doesn't meet your personal expectations of cerebral cinema. Seriously.

This is a terrific film that is well-written, well-directed, and above all well-acted. Every actor in this film pulls of his/her part with the perfect mixture of seriousness and humor. From the heroine to the rather horrid General (ugh, Cleese pulled that off abhorrently well), every role in this was nicely played. Liam McIntyre nearly stole the show as the evil henchman... except the other actors were quite good as well.

It would be a mistake to take this film too seriously. It was obviously intended as a dark comedy for the younger set. Young and teenage girls will likely love the horse theme. But older ones of both genders might appreciate the humor, the morality play, the story-lesson, and overall quality of the movie.

Is it perfect? No of course not. If one expected perfection going in, that would be somewhat delusional. Ranting at a kid's film for being a kid's film is one of those duh things. This is exactly what it's presented to be, achieved its goal, and was enjoyable all the way through. The ending was somewhat predictable and cliche, but was anyone really expecting anything different? Overall this is a decent family film and a fun watch.

I really wanted this to be a good movie. I really did. It's got a nice premise with an interesting world, but it just felt so... BLAND. I struggled to connect with the main character, Evie. All the characters felt so cookie cutter, so two-dimensional. There was very little emotion, at least that the audience could connect with. You could tell that the characters were having emotions, but unless they told you outright (which they frequently did) it was difficult to tell what they were feeling. And characters frequently changed emotions in rapid succession with no indication of how they got from one emotion to the next. When Evie meets the Queen, she goes from angry to suddenly hugging the Queen with no change in expression. And Eremon switches sides without any indication of an emotional or internal struggle, just an explanation. The characters all had to explain their motives to the audience! And even then it wasn't all that convincing. I was seriously disappointed in this, especially considering that it had so much potential.
  • This film is a lot better than I expected it to be and one that made me laugh almost all the way through the movie. Definitely glad that I found this on Netflix

Wow - awful acting from main character Castile Landon with a hideous attempt at an Irish accent. The majority of the plot was weak & & no role models for kids.
  • Surprisingly well acted family film. Excellent acting from John Cleese. Entertaining, magical plot which was moving in places. All in all very worth watching for all the family from youngsters to us older folk. We all really enjoyed it. This film speaks to the part of us that wishes to know that,'other' world in a similar way that many famous magical films do.
  • As a Bean-Draoi and Celtic Polytheist as soon as I saw the scene in the cave where the world of Albion is explained, I was angry and frustrated. They could have created an entirely new world and names but instead appropriated the Celts and it was extremely inaccurate with a lot of mispronunciations as well. Again they should've just created something completely new and different rather than using the Ancient Celts. The Four Treasures, the names of the Ancient Irish races, etc are all completely wrong. Fictional names, places etc would've been better to use than the butcher job they did with the actual history and culture.
  • It has the ingredients of magic, hope, love, humor and fantasy. It is not a movie for those who only enjoy very real and/or violent movies. The story is entertaining, takes you a magical place and it is not scary in the slightest. Again, it is a family tale for all ages. If you are looking for a nice fun easy moment, you shall have it
  • 6 July 2017. Ablion holds up pretty well as a dazzling, colorful children's fantasy adventure. The landscapes are among the most vividly striking ever for a fantasy with standout colors that broadcast faraway and amazing places. Quite breathtaking. The storyline is predictable as most such fantasies must be nowadays, but this one has evolved a tad bit making it distinctive in continuing to set a slightly new bar for layered characters.

Two big distractions that take away some of the enjoyment factor are John Cleese's performance in his first appearance where is indomitable character is a bit too cheesy and perhaps so improvised comedy that it breaks the tone of the movie and later one there are some uncharacteristic lapses in the accompanying music that genuinely make the movie seem raggedly powerless and weak.

The distinctive characteristic of Albion is that director takes some risks in balancing the drama and comedy that collide with each other threatening to make this movie into a dumb screwball comedy (like the short-lived awkward fantasy-musical television series Galavant, 2015-2016) but somehow never quite succeeding thankfully. Overall, the sound track, the luscious and ethereal music, the decent acting, and the enriched most mature storyline for children contribute to retaining the audience interest.
  • First off, the dialogue was hilarious and probably improvised on the fly with the help of John Cleese. It was very Pythonesc and fans of the Holy Grail would get a kick out of many of the scenes. Unfortunately, what the film needed was a faster pace and probably a more visionary director who could have taken this film to become the next Time Bandits. I did enjoy what I got, but couldn't help but see what this movie could have been.
  • I have long complained of the lack of truly great films in the last several years. There have been countless popular films that are entirely devoid of creativity that play to the audience's ignorance and basest nature. Films rife with titillation for the sake of selling tickets, a level of gore well beyond what is necessary to tell the story, stories that are weaker than wet paper, beautiful actors who can memorize lines but are unable to actually act.

Albion is not one of those. I got the film for my children expecting to be bored, sickened by the heavy-handed message, or irritated by an insipid production. I was so completely glad to be wrong. The film is visually stunning in many parts. The story is simple, relying on fantasy, fable, and myth for character archetypes as well as storyline. Refreshingly, the villain is not misunderstood or a shade of grey, he's just plain bad and the heroes are good.

It is a movie about hope, redemption, and love conquering all. Albion will be part of our family video library.

If you are one of those people who think obvious plot twists are clever, think that concepts of Good and Bad are trite, or believe that the world should be seen in shades of grey, this movie is not for you.

Beautiful movie! Great for the kids. Very sweet story. My daughter has rewatched this so many times. It's so nice to see something like princess bride being made these days. The cast was fantastic, I really enjoyed seeing John Cleese whom I didn't even recognize initially. Jennifer looked beautiful and was perfectly cast. Liam mcintyre was a stand out for me as well.

I watched this movie for Daniel Sharman, and ended up watching it several times because it was entertaining, and it has a good message. It's a bit silly in parts, but thoroughly enjoyable. It should have a much higher rating. The characters were great and dialogue was entertaining. I recommend it.

It might only be a children´s movie, but it still boasts great production values, including a very lyrical score. What I found to be especially captivating is that the script does not treat the viewer as somebody who is either dumb, naive, or strangely cynical, as is sadly often the case with children´s movies or books nowadays.

The humor and the underlying themes behind the characters conflicts and witty verbal exchanges were often very serious and sensible. The strong tendency towards a quirky, somewhat absurd sense of humour is certainly not for everybody, but since John Cleese is in it, I guess potential viewers would know to expect that.

I took away one star because the speed is very very fast. The story, including an epic conflict between to races, is told in a breakneck tempo, and new characters and settings including their background stories are sometimes introduced in every new place the protagonists travel to, and they travel a lot! On the other hand, this means there is never a dull moment, as also the costumes and scenery (and the performers) are always a pleasure to watch. This still makes the script loose depth. Either this was actually meant to be a longer film, maybe even split in two parts, or the filmmakers decided on giving the movie the feeling of a very very fast ride, where only the beginning and the end is told in a slower tempo.

Anyway, if you like highly entertaining and funny high fantasy tales with a strong sophisticated and off-beat flavor, you shouldn´t miss it!

Well, it is a fairy tale... so you know. It has sufficient content but what i like is watch it a second time and find all the metaphors and typical characters walking the earth. It helps you recognizing them in real life... Not all evil rules look that terrible, but their desire to have absolute power is the same... Fight it... as they do in the movie with love and a good heart

This was a family made fantasy film. I have no idea why there are so many cynical reviews about this, as it's a fun film with a good story. It may not be a Hollywood blockbuster but it doesn't have to be.

A girl who works at a stable is also caring for her sick father, until she meets a strange horse that carries her to a different world.

This is a real cool adventure and deserves ten stars from me.
  • I wasn't entirely sure about this movie on Netflix, but I was so happy I was surprised! It was very well acted, humorous, and an amazing storyline! Will watch again!

Imagine a Disney Channel Original Movie with a level of absurdity that I thought was impossible outside of a made for TV from the 80's. No cliché is beneath this movie. The closest thing to a spoiler I can give you is that if you see something coming and dismiss it because it sounds like something a child would write-it will happen. This movie is so bad it's good, and watching it is an experience that I would never give up.

I loved the nature of main character, Evie. As well said by her mother in movie... The person who is as Generous as she is Brave, as Clever as she is Honest.

It takes a very special person to achieve that kind of balance.
