Choosing Dana DeArmond and Bonnie Rotten to host this celebration of the hit series and its distributor Girlfriends Films (going strong since 2001) is the tipoff of a changing of the guard. Veronica Snow's original declaration of intent for the label, emphasizing glamor and realistic lesbian sex, is now competing with a more in-your-face gonzo approach.
The 2 DVDs present four new (or at least unreleased previously) vignettes plus 4 fan favorites from earlier days. Significantly the uninhibited and self-professed "kinky" Dana stars in the final segment on each disk.
Amongst the newcomers, I was frankly disappointed by the finale summit meeting in which hosts Dana and Bonnie take their gloves off and dive into a wall-to-wall sex exercise together, trumpeted by both starting off with dildos already strapped on for battle. Bonnie's expected squirting, plenty of talking dirty and even some footsie action typify this fast-paced and energetic tryst, devoid of the elements that made Girlfiriends a leading purveyor of lesbian erotica.
Best new segment seems lifted from a prospective berth in a different series. It's a sexual threesome set at Thornhill's Lamoyne Hotel, namely the site of the ongoing Twisted Passions series. Ariella Ferrera excels in this interesting play-let pf Zoey Holloway and India Summer more or less initiating Ariella into the ways of bad girls who rendez-vous at that notorious site. You couldn't ask for more star power than this threesome.
Also new is a bride-themed segment, which again could fit into Girlfiriends' "Lesbian Bridal Stories" series. Rayveness is smooth as silk in her familiar seduction routine, preying on the loveliest of future daughter-in-laws Heather Starlet. Inclusion of this segment is perfect, since it encapsulates so many of the label's iconic themes, namely seduction, older/younger action, glamor (with the wedding dress and mirror imagery) and the slow, romantic pacing. Obviously it could also have been released as part of "Lesbian Seductions" rather than this salute to WSW.
Other new scene has contract star Prinzzess seducing Veruca James. It's a simple but satisfying vignette thanks to Prinzzess's expertise, Veruca's believable shy act, and a soft sensuality you don't get anymore in most lesbian content.
Oldies revived consist of: (1) Brea Bennett and Codi Milo from Vol. 19 in a two- blondes sexual initiation notable for Milo's huge breasts; (2) Faye Reagan and Lena from Vol. 36 (inc. cameos by Nicole Moore and Cindy) in which Faye's performance as sub is terrific; a very personal episode from Vol. 49 starring Magdalene St. Michaels, Prinzzess and Tori Black -quite a lineup; and Vol. 54 in which DeArmond meets her match in butch favorite Syd Blackovich.
Total program runs 6 hours long, a good introduction to the series as a whole.
