When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends, must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.
The official poster for the series was created by Kyle Lambert. It was done in an art style inspired by acclaimed poster/album artwork artist Drew Struzan, who has created official posters for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Back to the Future (1985), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and several others.
The teenage characters frequently use the phrase "chill" to mean hang around. In 1983, "chill" would have been used as a command to someone the speaker perceived to be overexcited about something. "Chill" didn't mean "hang out" until some point in the 1990's.
The Stranger Things opening titles and fonts mimic the film grain and look of 1980's television series opening credits.
