Fascinating and a tad grotesque...but in a good way!
This documentary about King Henry VIII of England is far better than previous ones I've seen because instead of simply recounting his proclamations, it examines WHY Henry was such a big jerk. And, to do this, three experts take different portions of the show and explain how a beloved young king who was seen as the embodiment of male beauty became a nasty, foul-tempered tyrant with giant open sores and horrid health. To do this examination, the three consult the royal doctors' records and with the help of experts try to determine what illness he came up with and when and how it effected his rule. Very clever and very enjoyable for history lovers...and one that paints a very smelly and disgusting image of the man late in life (yuck!). Overall, because it was able to be so thoroughly original in its presentation of Henry's life, it's a must-see show from the BBC.
