This movie is an insult to Sicilian families everywhere. The characters are nothing more than cartoonish caricatures of what some Anglo writers thinks Sicilians are like. They have no dignity, are greedy and insensitive. They don't even speak much Sicilian. They scream and yell at each other more like the Jersey Shore Italians on tv than any Sicilians I ever knew. I grew up in a large Sicilian family in a large Sicilian American community and don't recognize a single thing in this movie other than the statue of Jesus the kids break at the beginning and the plastic cover on the couch. I found the movie boring. The storyline wasn't believable and neither were the characters, even setting aside their inauthenticity. It was more like an Italian Monty Python movie than a heartwarming family story.

Spectacular - a story that touches the intelligent heart.

If there was ever a movie for you to see about immigrants in Canada/North America, this would be the one. I revelled in 90 minutes of gorgeous Italian music, beautiful scenery of Sicily, and a touching funny story of father and son; family unity; and one big crazy feast.

ROAD TO THE LEMON GROVE, a big-hearted, joy-filled movie, that takes a spirited journey into the heart of Sicily and the soul of a father/son bond. This funny and touching, multi-award winning film explores the loss of culture and identity that can only be rekindled by reconnecting with the heart of who we are.

I went with a group of people, some Italian, some not, all loved it. This is not a movie targeted towards teenagers, like every other movie out there. It is beautiful, funny, heartwarming and a real message for all ages. For once someone made a movie that wasn't made for the critics and the superhero lot. This was made for people who can never find content in movie theatres anymore that speak to them, that allow you to be swept away and be immersed in a cultural setting that anyone can relate to.
  • ROAD TO THE LEMON GROVE warms the soul, the breath taking cinematography, the gentle humour, and a relationship between a father and son takes the viewer to a plane of joy. It's about love, family, sharing food, and exquisite music. Although the movie focuses on Italian immigrants, this is a story that resonates with everyone who has an immigrant story in their life.

The cinematography is stunning. The characters are vibrant and the father - son conflict was relatable. I thought I might be disappointed Loreena Mckennit wasn't part of the soundtrack but her melodic "voice of God" was most satisfying. Italian in-laws were delightfully 2-faced. I will see this again to capture more detail. I attended with my sisters and it sparked a long family conversation over craft beers post show. Inspiring. I would highly recommend.

What I most enjoyed about the story was how it brings families together and how to accept death and the evolution of life. Visually it was a beautiful story; enjoyed the actors tremendously and loved the music. I hope they make a CD of the music. I also want a DVD so I can see the movie whenever I want to feel joy.

An intelligent and heart warming tribute to Italian immigrants that exemplifies the struggle and challenges any immigrant experiences when entering a new culture, with a new language. It also shows the generational divide when trying to adapt. This story is acted and told passionately in both a humorous and touching way. It is about love, father and son, family, and finding your roots, that anyone can relate to. Have watched it now several times, and each time see some subtle nuance that adds even more depth to the story. Stunning scenery, and beautiful musical score!

People who don't get this film don't realize it was based on the real life experience of an Sicilian immigrant, who co-wrote the script. The message about family, language and the challenge of adjusting to a new culture was recently recognized by the Socially Relevant Film Festival in NYC, where it won best picture.
  • This is the most refreshing movie I've seen in years. It took me to a place of joy through tears and laughter. It's got heart and it's got grit. The cinematography was sensitive and yet breathtaking; the humour was gentle and truly funny; the immigrant story was a definite "me too"; the music left me wanting more; and at the end, my heart was smiling.
  • Road to the Lemon Grove is a visually spectacular composition of film and talent. Spliced together superbly by an intelligent narrative and visually moving context. I cannot mention any one actor over another as it would be an injustice. The actors are fingers to a hand, all working together for a beautifully memorable story of the Italian immigrant experience.
  • Totally enjoyed Road to the Lemon Grove. Made me think of my grandma, who I often had to do the translating for. Bring the whole family. Bring the village. It's a show for all ages. FINALLY!!
  • If you are looking for a slick over produced action packed, guns blaring, bombs going off, film with lots of special effects without much of a story line, then Road to the Lemon Grove is not for you. However, if you are looking for some heart and soul, Road to the Lemon Grove is perfect! It will make you laugh, cry and reflect on your relationships with your family and friends. The story and theme is very universal. A relationship between a father and a son, and how being immigrants affected their lives. What makes this film so special is that the story has been filmed and told in a very unique and original way. This would become very apparent if you and your family were immigrants as well.

Road to the Lemon Grove is sure to make a mark with the mature audience from the first families of immigrants and for their next generations.

The music is fantastic throughout the movie.

As a big fan of Charly Chiarelli, this movie did not disappoint. It was really funny and over dramatic. It brought me though the landscape to my favourite place in the world.... Sicily. I would recommend sitting on your couch with a bottle of Sicilian wine and some pasta alla Norma and enjoy the ride.
  • What a pleasure it is to watch this movie and I liked it from start to finish. Very cool it's film partly in Hamilton Ontario, Canada my birth place. :)
