Gloria is an out-of-work party girl forced to leave her life in New York City and move back home. When reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, she gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this phenomenon.
Several times a map is seen suggesting that the town is somewhere in New England. The 603 area code on the taxi in an early scene confirms it's in New Hampshire.

There is no way the area around the monster sightings would remain open to the public when it was a continuous threat; the area would have been evacuated and quarantined until the situation was resolved. Without this colossal plot hole, of course, there would not be much of a story.
