  • We've all grown up with these characters and it's always nice to see them meet celebrities here and then sometimes. This time we have the gang side by side by the largely successful and now iconic rock band ''KISS'' Against a new villain. The animation is truly beautifully done with this one while it even references the original first season in it's style sometimes. The only real downfall i have to say is that this might not strike as glamorous to non-Kiss fans yet still worth checking out if you'd like a nice comeback of the Scooby-Doo gang because the characters are all spot on just like you remember them. Very surprised with the voice acting by all the Kiss band members as they all did what they had to in the best way possible. Closing up this is most certainly a MUST WATCH for kiss fans as the references to certain things are not only very clever but also to the point that makes you think of how great an actually kiss movie in this universe could actually be. If you are a kiss fan you are in for many surprises that will make you both a proud and excited kiss fan. Give it a Watch!

I love Kiss but their comic books usually suck so I wasn't expecting much from this. I hate that the comics always seem to center around The Elder but this movie mixes it up by throwing in a black diamond and even a bad guy named the Destroyer, who looks an awful lot like Galactus(he even threatens to swallow the earth). Ironically, The Elder was voiced by Penny Marshall and she was entertaining so I wouldn't have minded more of her. It's a decent story and there's a couple full songs(over very long chase scenes). Five stars.

A creepy amusement park. A spooky witch. Crowds of innocent people fleeing in terror. This looks like a job for the greatest crime solvers in history...KISS? That's right, Scooby (voice of Frank Welker) and the rest of the Mystery Machine gang take a back seat while the famous rock band investigates haunted happenings at their own theme park. But when this case proves to be too much for even Gene Simmons (a.k.a. The Demon), Paul Stanley (a.k.a. The Starchild), and the rest of their band to handle, you can bet that the hungry hound and his pals will be there to help give evil the heave-ho.

"Scooby-Doo! and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery" carries on the celebrity crossover tradition that's had our canine crime-buster run into Batman and the Harlem Globetrotters in previous years. That the powers that be waited so long to bring about this team-up is no less weird than the pairing itself, but the flick brings a self-aware silliness to the table that excuses many of its more far-fetched moments.

As a matter of fact, with all of the references to their songs scattered about along with a dig on their own brand-merchandising gimmicks down the years, and the soundtrack blasting said tunes constantly, KISS fans are liable to get as much enjoyment out of this movie as would Scooby fans, if not a bit more. Unfortunately, this is also sort of a problem, for while the rocking music and psychedelic animation are great, the presence of Scooby and the gang ends up downplayed as a result. There really isn't much of an investigation towards unfolding the mystery, which is a downer as along with all the madcap chase sequences, goofy fun, and witty humor the Mystery Machine gang has always been synonymous with unearthing good, old-fashioned, interesting mysteries; sort of living up to their moniker. This time they just assist KISS in chasing the easily-identifiable villain around before a rather unceremonious unmasking at the end. Still, "Scooby- Doo! and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery" is about on par with most of the eponymous pooch's escapades even though it doesn't scale the heights of some of the gang's superior outings (like last year's "Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery" for instance); it's really simple and zany, but it's a harmless and genuinely funny little ditty all the same, and scores extra points for providing pure nostalgia to KISS and Scooby- Doo fans alike.
  • Scooby-Doo and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery (2015)

    *** (out of 4)

Scooby and the gang are headed to a KISS amusement park for a big concert but once they get there they are saddened to learn that it has been canceled because a phantom is stalking the park. The group agrees to help the band try and find out who the phantom is and why she's there.

As a life-long Scooby-Doo fan, I've been disappointed with the last couple movies but this one here gets things back on track and it's really a nice little throw-back to the Scooby Doo Movies, which had the gang teaming up with various famous people for one hour episodes. This movie here has some of the best animation from the series and there's no doubt that the use of the KIiss music is a major plus. I won't ruin which of their songs are played here but they certainly help punch up the action and especially the song playing over the title credits.

As far as the story goes, it's actually fairly interesting, although the mystery is pretty much a disaster as it's obvious who the bad guy is going to be. In fact, it's easy to figure out why they're doing it. The story itself has some pretty wild stuff going on including various winks to other Kiss songs and album titles. The villain, for the most part, is a good one and the look of the costume was quite good as was the red fog that follows her. Scooby and his boys are in fine form here and I thought the animated Kiss members were a lot of fun.

SCOOBY-DOO AND KISS: ROCK AND ROLL MYSTERY isn't the best movie of the series but it's certainly has some fresh moments and the music is great. At just 72 minutes the film moves at a nice pace and makes for a solid entertainment. Plus, seeing Scooby and his buddies in full Kiss make-up was quite fun.
  • What is a Halloween WITHOUT Kiss or the Scooby Gang? With this terrific fun-fest we will never know the answer to that question! Yup the Fearless Five team up with the Hottest Band In The World to solve the mystery of the Crimson Witch, an especially vicious new monster that is terrorizing the visitors to the Kiss themed amusement park known as Kiss World on Halloween Night. And in the process the Gang will travel to strange places, learn how to belch fire, and find out who Kiss really are.

For starters let start with the animation. The five Scooby-Doo characters have never looked better. The animation is fluid without over-animating them. The animation is sharp, very colorful and crisp looking. As for the plot, that is where a snag comes in. To me it gets a tad too thick at times. We all know the basic Scooby-Doo plot and it was always straight forward. Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, Fred, and Scooby stumble onto another weird situation, run for their lives from the monster, and then solve the mystery and expose the buttface in the mask and costume that was causing all the trouble at the episodes end (and always revealing their solutions with an ironic comparative ease - after all if they figured out it was just some harmless ordinary idiot in a costume and mask from the start, then what were they so frightened of?). It was a formula that was took it easy on the brain and was fun to watch as well. That was why it was so successful and Hanna-Barbera used it many times over in their various shows (Speed Buggy, Jabberjaw, etc.)

Here the plot concerns a Black Diamond the band must protect, and the Witch wants desperately, while the Scooby Gang helps the band out in their quest. But it goes deeper than just protecting the precious gem, far more so. And that is where the plot of "Scooby-Doo and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" kicks into gear and things get complicated. It is a little more than the basic Scooby formula that I had described before. Not that it is a bad thing. After all this is a MOVIE, so it has to be more solid than an average episode. I'm just saying that it seems a little bit off putting for viewers that are more used to 30 minute Scooby adventures, like myself.

But the real treat here is the voice casting. The band members actually do their own voices, as well as their real life manager Doc McGee. There is also a bevy a celebrity voices here, from Jason Mewes and Paula Perrette, to Penny Marshall and Darius Rucker, just to name a few. The band members all do a decent job with their rolls. For non-actors (well Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley has done acting before) there is rarely a flat reading of lines by the them and it is a joy to hear them sound like voice acting pros.

Another added plus is the slathering of Kiss references that are plastered throughout the movie. A couple of examples: when the gang is watching a video of the Witch doing her evil, she smashes a guitar. Paul Stanley smashes his guitar at the end of every Kiss concert. When told that the Scooby Gang will join them whether he likes it or not, the Demon (Gene Simmons) replies "Oy" referencing the fact that Simmons is Jewish. The list goes on and on. It took me at least three viewings before I could get even half of the references. And there are a few non-Kiss references thrown in to keep you on your toes, look for a Sailor Moon one. Kiss fanatics, like yours truly, will be in Kiss trivia hog heaven here.

In all this is a great Scooby adventure, a great Kiss adventure, and a great Halloween movie. Along with great Kiss songs (the opening credits are a knockout) and a new Kiss song that is fun to listen to, "Scooby-Doo and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" will definitely get your Halloween Rockin and Rolling All Nite!

My Rating (from Excellent to Poor): Good. Lots of fun to be had here.
  • OMG.

I swear, I thought I was watching a vintage Scooby-Doo! movie from the worst era of marketing-driven, Hanna-Barbera whoring-their-characters animated drivel. No, it's NEW. They actually spent money to make an homage to the low point in children's programming, the greed driven 80s when everything on Saturday morning TV was hawking a toy or breakfast cereal or in this case, a stupid rock band trying to remake themselves in comic books once the first bloom of fame had faded.

What you're subjected to in childhood is obviously powerful, since a lot of people seem to like this. Sorry about the brainwashing, folks.

It's Kiss World and we're all just living in it. Kiss World is an amusement park based on the band. There is a witch haunting it. Mystery solvers are called in. Kiss fan Daphne decides to volunteer the group's services without an actual invitation.

The Kiss boys are basically cartoons themselves. So this is very natural to the band. There is a disconnect in that they are flying around in a superhero movie whereas the Scooby gang is still grounded. I would have preferred having the Band maintain their human scale. They could solve the mystery Scooby style. This just goes off the rails but that is Kiss in essence. It's ironic that it's all caused by drugs. The other missed opportunity is Daphne's fandom. She should be in her Kiss makeup throughout the movie. This does have the band's great songs. This is still fun but it is a bit of a mess.
  • Of course you'd find KISS to be the band that put their name to the "Scooby-Doo" franchise, for better or worse. And of course you see a lot of shameless KISS merchandise promotion here, which I really hope was a spoof on themselves and their ability to put KISS on everything that can make a buck.

Now, "Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" was your average run-of-the-mill Scooby-Doo adventure. But throw the rock band KISS into the equation and you end up with this movie. Plus, there were some very trippy scenes throughout the story as well.

While the story is entertaining for what a Scooby-Doo animated movie usually is, then "Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" is not the best of animated Scooby-Doo adventures available.

It is, of course, always nice to have the same cast return to do the voicing for the characters in the franchise; Frank Welker (as Fred and Scooby-Doo), Mindy Cohn (as Velma), Grey Griffin (as Daphne) and Matthew Lillard (as Shaggy).

And having KISS in the animated movie was a bit of a mixed experience for me. Sure, with their history of putting KISS on anything with commercial value, I can relate to them joining in here on the Scooby-Doo franchise. However, giving the KISS members superabilities and being able to fly? Come on... No, that just gave this particular animated Scooby-Doo movie a way too cartoony and childish feel. Something that worked against the entertainment value of this 2015 animated movie in my opinion.

Sure, there were fun moments to the storyline as well. But the overall enjoyment of it was just mediocre. Hence I am rating "Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" a five out of ten stars.
  • I mean...come on, you get what you're expecting. If you saw the clips of "KISS Saves Santa" on "Family Guy" and thought that'd be fun to watch, you pretty much get that here. The campiness, the corny humor, the band members having fun voicing themselves, etc.

HOWEVER!!!! There is a musical scene in this movie, one in particular, that is so over-the-top and so bad-ass that you will be a KISS fan if you weren't before, and something that made me take such a deep dive into a band's discography is something I cannot rank any lower than an 8. I am glad I live in a reality where this can exist.
  • I *loved* kiss. Once.

Anyone old enough to remember them in the 80s? going to one of their concerts back then was still amazing, but not because of the show and the music any longer, it was because of the audience.

after licensing their image for anything that made them money, from comics to toys (a practice that still persists, only these days few care about kiss anymore), you'd go to a concert and you'd see children as young as 3 made up like one of the band, on the shoulders of their parents (also made up, and generally as peter criss/the cat), and the punchline of the joke was that a great many of these parents did not generally like either the band or the music outside of a couple of tracks.

it was their kids, that playing with kiss toys, reading kiss comics and buying into their stage personalities, became "fans" of the band.

seriously, i lived it, but you can look it up.

this was the very reason for the beginning of their decline, which then forced them to abandon the make up in an attempt to reverse the trend and return to their serious rock band days; which at that point didn't work, because by that time their mind set had switched from musical excellence to commercialism, so they lost that spark that made them special in the 70s.

things like the kiss casket, the kiss condoms, the terrible commercial lectures of ... some of the less wise members of the band, the return to the times of makeup, the GODAWFUL movies, either with the whole band or just with Simmons, and now, in the 2010s even after recognizing what a mistake they were, we're back to that. absolutely anything to make a cent regardless of its wisdom, quality, value or lack of it; it's disappointing in the extreme, also ridiculous and sad.

they were an unstoppable musical juggernaut with one of the best live shows ever, these days they might as well change the name to "MISS", not to mention the harsher alternative.

    seriously avoid.
  • As a huge Scooby Doo fan, Scooby Doo! And KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery may not be one of the best of the Scooby Doo films in the way Witch's Ghost, Zombie Island, Big Top, Mask of the Blue Falcon and Goblin King are, but it is hardly a lesser effort (Monster of Mexico is my personal least favourite) and is definitely worth a watch.

The animation is great, some of the most imaginative and funky of any Scooby Doo film. Everything is beautifully drawn and meticulously detailed, with rich, atmospheric colours and a lot of care and time clearly went into how the characters were drawn and move. Even better, and perhaps the best thing about the film, is the terrific rock and roll soundtrack filled with a mix of KISS' biggest hits and songs every bit as catchy, KISS fans will be in KISS heaven almost certainly.

Scooby Doo! And KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery is a smartly written and funny film as well, with some endearing goofy slapstick and jokes, great inside jokes with KISS and witty digs at Fred's taste in music and commercialism in the business. The story is always diverting, love the over-the-top strangeness of the KISS scenes and it didn't feel too much of a KISS rock video and while the ending did feel rushed, not quite explained enough and the identity of the villain a little obvious the mystery is fun and suspenseful.

The characters all engage, Scooby and the gang are true to personality, fun to watch and have an easy-going chemistry, Velma is more likable than she has been in some of the more recent outings and Shaggy and Scooby's friendship is charming as always. KISS are great additions and have really interesting personalities, while the villain is an appropriately spooky one. The voice work is very good, the Scooby Doo regulars (especially Matthew Lillard) are spot on and KISS are a very pleasant surprise and sound more than comfortable in their as themselves roles.

All in all, not Scooby Doo at his best, but Scooby Doo! And KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery is never less than a rocking good time, and at its best it's an absolute blast. 8/10 Bethany Cox

This film is almost all around bad. The plot is bad, the unmasking at the end isn't properly explained of why the villain did what she did, and to say this is a kids' film, it was Un- entertaining. Not many kids would know who Kiss is and the fact that this is Scooby Doo makes it even worse as it is supposed to entertain young children. Yes OK, the cinematography is good, the visual effects are good and the voice acting is good. But the jokes fall flat. The plot is dull. The whole film leaves loads of unanswered questions. I watched this film on Movietube, if you want to watch this film watch it on there. It is not worth wasting your money to buy this film. It is the worst Scooby Doo ever made! I cannot express how bad this film is! The only thing good about it is the visual effects and CGI. They were borderline great. But that is it! This film suits older audiences who do not care about the logics of the film and actually understanding the plot. Not little children.
  • I love the Scooby Doo series and movies. This movie was different the art was excellent and the visuals and animation was colorful and great. A Korean company Digital eMation Inc did a lot on this film along with others. There is a lot of action, and suspense confusing at times There is also lots of Kiss music as the characters are chased.

I felt the characters especially Kiss and the females were drawn too sexy. At the end the women in costumes had breast too big for kids cartoon or for even me I found it kind of offensive.

The musical group "Kiss" that was popular over 20 years was in this with their painted faces. I did not like their music years ago or their painted faces and I did not like them in this movie. I don't know why this group was included with Scooby Doo to make a movie unless it is because of the Halloween season. The Scooby characters were basically the same Frank Welker,Mindy Cohn,Grey Griffin and Matthew Lillard all very good and funny.

Penny Marshall who played years ago in Lavern and Shirley was "The Elder" who was supposed to be a strong good character spoke with a lisp which did not sound good.

What was really funny is the regular Scooby characters like Scooby and Shaggy their hunger and shaking in fear is comical. Velma is still the one with the commence and brains.

The movie is over an hour. The gang solves the mystery.
  • Not sure who wrote this but sh!t it is a stinker. I literally stopped watching after 6 minutes, I think that is a new record for me. There was so much sh!t about the rock band KISS just in the first 6 minutes, it was annoying as anything. I know KISS is in the stupid title of this movie but come on. It just came off as pathetic pandering to mindless KISS fans who will automatically like anything with the logo of this overrated band on it. I mean dammit, was this written by a 5 year old KISS fan or something? I usually like Scooby-Doo cartoons, they're for children but they are more of the sophisticated kiddy cartoons out there (if you get what I'm saying). But this was like written for a simpleton or something. I know what you're going to say, but you only watched 6 minutes and a few seconds of the film, how can you even judge it? I'll tell you right now why I can judge it after just 6 minutes of viewing it. When the plot is super-simple, the dialogue reads like a 5 year old wrote it (I am not even joking. I am willing to bet you that the dialogue in the first 6 minutes of the film used a word with more than 5 letters in it) and there is never a second where you don't see anything not related to KISS on the screen, then you know the movie is going to p!ss you off. But like I said before, KISS fans will buy anything. KISS is really an impressive band in that they should be a one hit wonder but they sell themselves so well. Even the whole Scooby gang mystery team are all wearing KISS clothing and make-up, I can not believe someone actually signed off on this film.
  • Content: Super-Awesome. Other than 1 or 2 of the McFarlane action figures and a handful of the McFarlane comic books, I really have never owned any of KISS's stuff. I neither loved nor hated their music, but admired their merchandising strategy and as someone who spent the 90′s working in a Heavy Metal record store, we made sure to order every crazy KISS item we could.

But after watching this movie it is hard to not be a KISS fan. I found myself singing Rock N Roll All Night while cutting open the packaging. KISS songs are peppered throughout the movie and they all sound great. The cartoon versions of the band are thinner and younger than their real-life counterparts and possess super-powers. Everything the band does in this movie is mind-blowingly cool.

The Scooby Doo end of this movie is spot on and done to perfection. And when Shaggy and Scooby take The Demon's advice, I cheered very loud because it was super-cool. Fred and Daphne have some great stuff with 2 love triangles involving The Star Child and the scientist lady that makes Fred pull out his creepy evil smile at one point. Velma gets some one-on-one time with The Spaceman as she grips tightly to hold on to her skepticism.

Only having read a few of the Psycho Circus comics, I am not sure what lore other comics created for KISS, but this movie expands the mythos surrounding the band in exciting, imaginative and fairly logical ways. The titles of Songs, Albums and more take on deeper meanings. The movie keeps pushing the boundaries on what you could possibly expect from it.

Bruce Kulick did tweet a post about how this movie does give a shout out to past members of KISS. There is a screen-shot and if you are familiar with the lore of KISS, it is right there.

Special Features: Good. KISS Cut-Ups is just out takes of KISS doing some promotion for this movie. The finished version of which is not on this release. These bloopers are not really funny.

Are You A Scooby or a Shaggy? is KISS, Abby from NCIS and Jay & Silent Bob saying if they relate more to Scooby or Shaggy. Points to Thayer for his out of the box answer, even if he can't land on the exact name.

Trailers: Nothing new. Opens with Legos: DC Heroes: Attack of the Legion of Doom. (first seen on Tom & Jerry vs Jonny Quest) and Tom & Jerry vs Jonny Quest. In the Special Features section trailers for Scooby Doo vs WWE and Lego Dimensions which may be a video game, but the trailer features Joel McHale. (Amazon has 2 different trailers, one feat. Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown.) (BTW DC Lego movies have more action and less dumb comedy than Star Wars Lego movies.)

Blu Ray special features also include 2 episodes from the 3rd season of Scooby Doo Where Are You (Part of the Scooby Doo/Dynomutt Hour) S03E04 To Switch A Witch and S03E11 The Diabolical Disc Demon.

Buy/Don't Buy: Yes. Buy. This movie does not disappoint in any way. I want more. This is a great format for KISS. Our passport to the KISS realm is the Scooby gang so KISS gets to be mysterious. I would love it if Warner Animation created a Hanna Barbera-style cartoon series for Cartoon Network with a group of Mystery Solving Teens who summon KISS whenever they find themselves in trouble. Like the Godzilla Power Hour with the trouble alert.

I'm watching Scooby-Doo films since i remember myself and i like them.

This movie was not one of the best, but still it was a movie to pass your time.

The problem is that while i was watching the movie, I heard something that I found really offending. In one scene of the movie (29:01) Velma says "She smells like hobo". I can't believe that in a film that children watch, someone uses a racist word to describe something. I'm really disappointed.

The point is to help our children to become better persons and respect the other beings in this world, humans & animals, not help them to characterize someone (for example "hobos" smell bad) by its appearance, without knowing first the character of the person or the story of his/her life.

This movie is like eating Scooby snacks laced with acid. And I so enjoyed the trip it sent me on.
  • At the beginning it was good, then it took a strange turn. The parts with Scooby and Shaggy going on the rides was great and fun. The whole fantasy magical part of the movie was not. I liked hearing the Kiss band's music throughout. It flowed well with the plot. The story was interesting until it got to the magic part. I found myself completely confused after that part came up. But they ended up fixing it and making more sense of it all. The one huge other problem I had with the movie was how it had a female as the villain. You could easily guess who it was because of skin tone and build. This is why I like the villain to have no gender to have you keep guessing. Overall, it was somewhat of a disappointment.

    1) They are no longer the Scooby Doo characters. TheIr personalities have completely changed for the worse. This simply was not necessary. It would be like transforming Bugs Bunny into a coward. Or like starting a Star Wars sequel series and not actually writing the entire story trilogy before filming the first one. And then reuniting the beloved original cast in name, but giving the 3 of them no scenes together.

    2) KISS seriously has two cover band guys in Ace Frehley and Peter Criss makeup?? Paul and Gene are pitiable money grubs. Aw what's the matter, Ace upstaged you guys for the second time in your career? Yes, that's it. Saw them 12x when they reunited with Ace, and Peter; Ace never missed a note. LOL and Paul's volume on his guitar is turned away down. Ace plays the rythmn parts and his solo Ieads.

    3) Tommy Thayer, HA! Paul Eisen and Gene Kline have been ripping off the fans for years. First they used an alternate guitar player and said it was Ace. Next they put Peter Criss pictures on the Dynasty and Unmasked records, even though he didn't play on them. Then they put Ace's picture on the Creatures album - he didn't play a note. Then the Reunion album Psycho Circus had both their pictures, one song from each, And then neither of them played on any of the other songs. The album sucked and then Ace left kiss again and put out a string of solo albums that are better than everything on Psycho Circus and the the two KISS records with the cover band guys wearing Ace and Peter's makeup.

    4) This movie is so annoying with the high shriek of the villain and the awful plot and script. Phantom of the Park is better.

  • Scooby- doo + kiss = perfect!

A must watch for all kiss and scooby-doo fans
  • Plot is a little confusing to be honest; what do they mean to be reality vs. Mass hallucination? However, KISS as voice actors were surprisingly good. Penny Marshall, on the other hand, considering her decades of acting credits, was utterly terrible and disappointing. Like she was reading from a paper for the first time and the director said, alright, that's all we have time for, print it!

The main 4 actors were wonderful as always. Matthew Lillard is my favorite Shaggy.

My daughter loves this movie and continues to ask to watch it over and over. Even rocks out to all of the KISS songs and is apparently now a member of the KISS Army at age 4.

    Great animation as well.
