Well, this movie has a great message to deliver and interesting. But sadly, it's a bit draggy. They failed to deliver the important parts, and focus more on the uninteresting parts. I was expecting something a little better. It doesn't make sense ofc, but it's fiction so i'm okay with that. But i'm expecting a little more neat story-line. Not really worth watching. But people's judgement are different.
  • Acting wasn't very good at all, with the "emotional" scenes seeming sarcastic at best. If you know anything at all about pregnancy and childbirth it is infuriating to watch, and it ends up being pretty Christian. It could be a really cute movie, but there's no showing of bonding between characters at pretty much any point. Lots of plot holes and untied loose ends, and a lot of the things characters do don't make any sense in the storyline, and the arcs aren't told well at all. The writing seemed amateur, the acting as well. To some extent the child actors can be excused but still pretty shoddy even with the adults. Really creepy nurse that was supposed to be "funny", I guess? She just came off as pedophilic and was the worst character, even in the sea of poorly developed characters. Fun to watch with friends and make fun of.
  • The script is promising and tries to do something original and new. However, it has plenty loose ends. It is more like a script written by amateurs than professionals. The actors are all amateurs and were not able to bring the story to life. The movie is sloppy, slow-paced, and devoid of any humour to make it an interesting watch. The characters are mainly caricatures and the actions in the story are unbelievable. The viewer is not lured into the plausibility of the movie's plot even though it is original (a boy carrying a pregnancy and its attendant effects).

All-in-all, you may see this movie if you want to know how a bad movie can be. If you are into amateurish movies, then this movie is perfect. However, for more serious viewers: SAVE YOURSELF THE STRESS AND TIME!
  • How you get a fetus from a girl to a boy Who doesnt have a womb. did you just put it in his belly? everything about the idea of the movie is not right. and how everybody at his school didnt find his swollen belly weird, is... wrong. dont waste your time to watch this movie.

    Warning: Spoilers
Why this film was not highly rated. It had some good quality's going for it but that was shadowed by the fact that it was way too long! I could not quite tell if this was a Christian movie or not because it would preach one sec and then contradicts the next. IF and I mean a BIG if, this could really happen I see Kelly as being the greatest man on earth for doing this. Yet no one in the movie felt the same until the end? Wow, I could not get over how ppl treated him like crap especially his so called g/f and he still wanted them around. This made the story stupid and unreal! Maybe if at the end he decided to say f all of you and take the bby's to another town I would have loved this story much more. Actors gave enough for me to half like this movie but that was it. I do not recommend this movie if you have something better to watch.
  • 'Mamaboy' tells the story of Kelly Hankins played by Sean O'Donnell (It's Sketchy, The Win) and how HE takes on pregnancy during his senior year for his longtime sweetheart Lisa played by Alli DeBerry. He's a guy he can handle it right? Think again......

The cast did a wonderful job at bringing their characters to life. Mikey Reid was hilarious as Kelly's oddball best friend 'Ditto' and he and Sean worked well off each other throughout. Dylan Riley Snyder (Kickin' It) nailed his part as the pesty 'Milton'. Other standouts for me were Cassidy Ann Shaffer who played a girl crazy for Kelly named 'Candy', Jesse Miller as 'Nurse Zelda', Pamela Finny who played 'Mom' and 'Uncle Theus' played by J.D. Rudometkin.

I thought the pregnancy aspect was handled nicely as well. I tip my hat off to the makeup/special effects department for keeping it as realistic as possible stretchmarks and all! I'd also like to point out how it was cool that different sizes of the belly were used for each stage. In many other pregnancy films a character will find out they're pregnant and a scene or two later already look like they're 6 months!

As a fan I must say I thought Sean O'Donnell definitely delivered (both literally and figuratively) in his first lead role. He has a charming on screen presence and I thought he was not only funny in the comical scenes but also handled the more emotionally driven ones nicely as well. Taking on a role like this also shows he's not afraid to play characters who are unconventional or put into unconventional situations which I think will definitely broaden the horizon for him as an actor. Looking forward to seeing what awesome characters he takes on next. I'm definitely on board for him!

In conclusion 'Mamaboy' is humorous, heartfelt, entertaining and sprinkled with some cheesy goodness. There are even some surprising twist along the way! Props for it also being an original story in a current movie world where everything is either a remake or an upteen sequel. I definitely recommend checking this gem out!-Michael
  • Mamaboy tells the story of our main protagonist Kelly Hankins as he discovers the trials of what pregnancy brings to the table and how it effects his life. And truth be told I found myself to like this film, yes despite the premise of being a Male getting pregnant (something that would turn people away) I think what it does with the concept of pregnancy itself makes it enjoyable despite that. I will say, yes I'm sort of in for seeing a Male get pregnant and clearly people who are into that will enjoy this film, however those who are turned off by the concept won't like this film and it does have its criticisms. Yes the experiment is very silly.

Despite the premise that is basically Mpreg, what I like about this film is that it tackles the very issues of what experiencing pregnancy really is like, Kelly's condition isn't exaggerated or over the top, he goes through actual struggles of pregnancy and how it effects his life, it makes his experiences in this film a bit realistic, because pregnancy at teenage years really does tamper with your grades, it can throw struggle on your personal experiences, the scene that hits home with this was Kelly losing everything, his peers, image, car and job, it's the experience of pregnancy through a different perspective (Male instead of Female) giving the Male their own perspective of the experience showing its not cut and dry. Kelly even gives the reaction a Male would normally, having being a Male himself, and of course being a teenager struggling with his situation proves it was more than what he thought, and at that age real teens think they can handle it but can't.

As for the characters, this is where things become hit or miss. Kelly himself is fine as a character, though the film is more about his experience overall. As far as Comedy goes the real comedic parts come from Nurse Zelda and the Principal, who were really the best characters in that regard. The one character I truly don't like was Kelly's brother Jimmy Hankins, he's such an annoying twit and his scenes with Kelly were pretty bad, especially when he Blackmails Kelly's car away from him and generally treats him badly, and he never gets punishment for anything he does, (mainly Blackmailing Kelly's car and telling Milton Kelly was pregnant) he's far too unlikable for me. The mom also wasn't given much screen time.

I also found it weird how nobody aside from the few characters that did know, caught onto the fact Kelly was pregnant, the signs weren't exactly hidden very well, all they think was he was fat, but they don't catch on that he's pregnant until the end. But despite this I liked the film, yeah it has its problems and it really isn't for everyone, as people who aren't into the concept of Mpreg alone will hate it, but looking past that I thought it was an alright film, one of the better perspectives that tackles a Male being pregnant.
  • Watched this tonight and wasn't expecting much from reading the synopsis but just wanted a fun movie to kill a night. I ended up really liking it. The idea is pretty original and handled in an interesting way. Watching Kelly and what he went through as far as being embarrassed and even shunned, and all the physical changes he went through really drives home what young girls go through when pregnant. Somehow seeing it from the guys point of view gives more sympathy for the girls. I think we just take things for granted when a girl is pregnant but watching a guy lose friends, have his peers whisper about him, start sucking at things he loves like baseball, it brings home the realities.

A lot of these actors are not well known yet even saw some that it was their first role (at least first listed on IMDb) and I thought they all did fine The kid who plays Kelly has a really expressive face and does emotion well, I expect we'll see him in more. And Ditto, he'll be playing the stoner guy in everything soon no doubt. I was also impressed by the little brother, his acting was very natural which is sometime tough for young kids. The Nurses character was hilarious and she played it well. No one was bad, that in itself is a pretty good feat for any movie! Production value was good, sound and lighting on point, music fit well. All in all comes across as a larger budget film then what it's listed on IMDb.

Oh and Busey....... Random ....... loved it! The only thing that bugged me (and its no big deal really) and is why I didn't give a 9 or 10 was I couldn't figure out if this was one of those Christian production movies or something. A few things like when Kelly's dad is talking to him really came across that way but then the whole topic of the movie doesn't seem like it would be. I really don't care either way, I'll watch either kind of movie as long as it's good. It just kind of bugged me.
