Chantal Akerman said: "This film is about my mother; My mother, who is no longer with us. About this woman who came to Belgium in 1938, fleeing from Poland, the pogroms and violence. This woman who we only see inside her apartment. An apartment in Brussels. A film about a world in motion that my mother does not see".
The film had its American premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 7th, the night after Akerman's suicide.
Voted the 6th best film of 2015 in 'Sight and Sound' magazine's annual critics poll. [Nov. 2015]
