When the gyrosphere plummets off the cliff, that's a long ways down and while the gyrosphere will probably survive it, with the vertical deceleration of the humans inside, Owen has no practical chance of surviving this. It doesn't help that being a human on foot, he wouldn't be able to jump far enough to get clear of the cliff.
