It didn't seem possible to make a 1980s-set vampire thriller starring Oscar Isaac and Kristen Stewart sound even more appealing, but somehow that's exactly what has happened. Deadline reports that Elizabeth Olsen has just joined the cast of Mandy director Panos Cosmatos's film Flesh of the Gods, and based on the description it sounds like she'll be playing one of the fanged monsters.
According to the outlet, Olsen has joined the cast as the inscrutable "Nameless," a leader of a "hard-partying cabal." Nameless seduces married couple Raoul (Isaac) and Alex (Stewart) into her "surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills, and violence." The story unfolds beneath the dazzling and glamorous skies of 1980s Los Angeles, following the wealthy couple as they leave their luxurious condo for the night to venture into the night.
Se7en writer Andrew Kevin Walker is penning the script, based on a story devised by him and Cosmatos.

Until Dawn Nears $50M Box Office Milestone ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Until Dawn is racing against the clock to cross the $50 million mark globally with only a few days left before Final Destination: Bloodlines crashes into theaters. Despite lukewarm reviews, it has held its own, pulling in $18 million from domestic screens and adding another $26 million overseas. That puts the total at a respectable $44 million (Via Box Office Mojo), which is not bad for a horror flick on a $15 million budget.
Until Dawn Has Surpassed A Robert Egger’s Masterpiece
Until Dawn has done better than a few recent genre outings, even though it hasn’t caught fire like horror movies used to, it even edged past Robert Eggers’ breakout film The Witch, which remains a critical darling.
However, the horror landscape has been shifting, and audiences have shown more interest in high-concept and artsier scares lately. Films like The Monkey are making waves this year,...

Stephen King's 1981 novel "Cujo" is about a Saint Bernard dog that contract rabies from a bat and goes on a killing spree. The dog, Cujo, belonged to an abusive mechanic, so it was already seemingly predisposed to violence. It mauls several people throughout the course of the story. The novel climaxes with a local mom named Donna Trenton and her young son Tad becoming trapped in a Ford Pinto on a hot day as Cujo stalks them from outside. There comes a moment when Donna has to choose to stay in the car and risk dying of heat stroke ... or exiting the car and facing the killer dog.
In the book, Donna successfully fights off Cujo with a baseball bat, beating the dog and stabbing it to death with a shard when the bat breaks. Tad, sadly, does not survive the ordeal, dying of heatstroke in the Pinto.

Diablo Cody, the Academy Award-winning writer behind Juno and cult horror hits like Jennifer's Body and Lisa Frankenstein, has found her next project, and it is right up her alley. The mid-2000s saw a boom in vampire media as the bloodsucking monsters dominated pop culture with Twilight, True Blood, and The Vampire Diaries. The creatures of the night have started to see a resurgence in the past couple of years. Nosferatu and Sinners have dominated pop culture discussion, and as vampires are hot once more, writer Diablo Cody might have found the next big vampire IP.
Variety reports that the popular book Fang Fiction by author Kate Stayman-London is getting a television series adaptation. Diablo Cody has signed on as executive producer for Madison Wells. Author Stayman-London is adapting her book, and Cody is working closely on the script. Madison Wells will be taking the project to buyers soon.

The whole Clayface movie announcement feels a bit like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat before even showing you the hat. With Superman barely out of his metaphorical cradle (arriving in theaters this July), DC Studios—perplexingly, if not provocatively—hit the gas on a solo film centered on Clayface: a shape-shifting Batman antagonist.
On paper, the timing is a head-scratcher. The new Batman hasn’t been introduced, and the Dcu is still tiptoeing through infancy, yet this new entry has leapfrogged more central icons. Why? The answer comes down to a script. And not just any script: Mike Flanagan’s script. Yes, the architect of the grief-soaked nightmares pitched the project to DC heads Gunn and Peter Safran back in 2023.
James Watkins, known for his unnerving work on Speak No Evil, has since been handed the director’s baton, with screenwriter Hossein Amini (Drive) now polishing Flanagan’s original draft.

Ryan Coogler's period vampire horror hit Sinners has passed a major milestone that sets it among some of the most successful features of the genre. The Black Panther director's new feature follows two twins hoping to strike out on their own and set up a business in the face of 1930's bigotry, which all comes to a halt when they're confronted with bloodthirsty creatures of the night. Sinners features Michael B. Jordan, Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O'Connell, Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, and Li Jun Li.
As Sinners continues to hold its own at the box office following its third weekend in theaters, The Numbers reports that Coogler's latest production has hit $240 million worldwide, solidifying its place among several iconic horror features. This gross places it as the 27th highest-grossing horror movie, between Alien: Covenant and Resident Evil: Retribution. Sinners' placement means that the international release has...

When it comes to the world of horror, the genre has allowed filmmakers to display their creativity by pushing the norms of traditional filmmaking. No less than a never-ending canvas and a boundless paint palette, filmmakers in the horror genre have the chance to go to the depths of human fear in whatever way they deem fit. Robert Eggers is one filmmaker who has utilized this space with perfection and creativity like no other.

Movies centered around Dracula might be cursed — recent years have seen bombs such as Dracula Untold, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and Renfield — but audiences still seem to be swooning over vampires. Last year saw the surprise success of director Robert Eggers' Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's German Expressionist classic from over a century ago. Last month saw the blockbuster debut of director Ryan Coogler's Sinners, his first stab at horror. In two weeks of release, Sinners has shattered every box office expectation, having earned near-unanimous praise from critics and crowds. It's already among the highest-grossing horror movies ever made.
This past weekend, Sinners overtook a string of horror titles on the box office charts. Among them was Nosferatu. Released during the packed holiday season last year, the movie made nearly $100 million domestically and over $180 million worldwide. "Batman: The Animated Series" indisputably revitalized Mr. Freeze. He wasn't exactly a forgotten villain before that — he made it into the 1960s "Batman" series, which was actually the first time he was called Mr. Freeze.
But the "Batman: The Animated Series" episode "Heart of Ice," written by Paul Dini, is where Freeze, as Bat-fans know him, began. The episode gave Freeze (voiced by Michael Ansara) a true name, Victor Fries. The '60s show had him named Dr. Schivel, whereas the comics had never given him a pre-supervillain name. That speaks to how little Freeze's backstory mattered, which gave Dini and company room to fill in the blanks. "Heart of Ice" forever changed Mr. Freeze from a generic mad scientist villain into someone driven by vengeance and love for his terminally-ill wife, Nora Fries.

This post contains spoilers for "Thunderbolts*."
Whenever Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) arrives in the MCU, he will face not just one but two teams of Avengers, but also the Fantastic Four (who appeared in the "Thunderbolts" post-credit scenes). Taking on so many heroes at the same time is nothing new for this guy, though. In the comics, Victor Von Doom is a man of genius intellect with a mastery of magic, making him one of the most formidable adversaries that the McU's finest may have ever faced. However, that shouldn't be the biggest concern. Even with his impressive arsenal, Doom's most dangerous weapon may not be of his own making, but one that is actually on our side. Sure, spells and science will certainly cause some issues, but following the events of "Thunderbolts*" and key events in Marvel comics history, we must ask – what about Bob?

The much-beleaguered and routinely delayed Marvel Cinematic Universe project Blade, featuring the Oscar-winning Mahershala Ali, seems to have been officially halted. It may not be shelved permanently (although the outlook is grim), but it doesn't seem the long-awaited reboot will soon gain wings.
The Playlist's Rodrigo Perez may have blew the Daywalker flames out when he heard the film was "essentially nixed." The seven-post thread delves into bad news about John Wick director Chad Stahelski taking over is just a rumor; this film has gone the way of Nova as no one is working but everyone is talking, and there is still a chance we see Blade in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
I heard some Blade news I trust. File under rumor for now if you want/take it with a grain of salt. I’m ok with that.

Marvel Studios has left Galactus mostly hidden in trailers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but keeping promo art under wraps has always been a near-impossible task for Kevin Feige and company.
We recently got a blurry first look at Ralph Ineson's Eater of Worlds, and a clearer shot of the artwork has now revealed the English actor's take on Galactus in all his gigantic glory. That suit is mighty impressive—and comic accurate—and Ineson's likeness is unmistakable beneath the villain's iconic helmet.
Based on comments from filmmaker Matt Shakman, Galactus will be brought to life in The Fantastic Four: First Steps through a combination of practical costume effects and VFX.
Talking about being cast in the role, Ineson previously said, "It was really humbling. When they announced that, I was like, 'How is that going to go down?' because there were a lot of big names that had been attached.

May just started, but I think I want to skip ahead to June. Why? Because an underrated and deeply disturbing horror film has just been confirmed to be hitting Netflix next month. If you’re a fan of terrifyingly twisted and unpredictable films, this one is sure to deliver non-stop tension, shocking twists, and a story that will leave you questioning everything. Mark your calendar because Barbarian is coming to Netflix on Sunday, June 1, 2025!
Barbarian comes from Zach Cregger, who wrote and directed the film. This was his first venture into horror, marking a bold departure from his previous work in comedy. Now, he's gone on to produce movies like the recent sci-fi thriller Companion. In fact, he's even behind one of the most anticipated horror films of this year, which is Weapons.

Was Christian Bale Unaware Of The MCU Before Thor 4?(Photo Credit –Marvel)
Christian Bale, the performer who brought Batman to life in The Dark Knight saga, is recognized for his fierce dedication to characters. But here’s a surprise: when he agreed to join Thor: Love and Thunder, he had zero clue what the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) even was
Bale, who plays the villain Gorr the God Butcher, admitted to Total Film that he had no clue about the MCU’s scale. “People would go, ‘Oh, look at this! He’s entered the MCU!’ And I’d go, ‘I’ve done what? I haven’t entered sh*t, thank you very much.’ I’m like, ‘The MCU?’” our DC superstar said.
But for Christian Bale, comic-book movies weren’t really on his radar. Even after his iconic turn as Batman, he hadn’t exactly kept up with the explosion of the MCU.

From starring in Lars von Trier’s Antichrist to Pixar’s Finding Nemo, Willem Dafoe has done it all, but it’s his involvement in the latter that had his costars in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu startled. Throughout his decades-long run in Hollywood, Dafoe has proven to be one of the very best when it comes to versatility.
Dafoe’s career started back in the 1980s when he appeared on screen playing supporting roles. Little did the world know that they were about to get one of the greatest actors who is capable of flaunting his range in everything from superhero movies to animated flicks.

One of the conventional elements used in horror films is the use of jump scares to elicit fear from the viewers. It was a very useful tool in creating tension and fear, making someone jump out of their seats in horror. However, as they were used more, it turned out that some horror films only managed to scare viewers using cheap jump scares.
The tool still works if used sparingly, but a good filmmaker sees that it isn’t the only way to scare his viewers. Some brilliant filmmakers have managed to give nightmares to their audience without using any such tools in their films. Here are ten such films that didn’t require a jump scare scene to keep you up at night.

Sinners drove a stake through Hollywood’s love affair with mediocrity. Ryan Coogler’s bold new flick is like nothing you’ve seen before—a killer mix of gripping 1930s Southern noir and raw vampire horror. The film sticks to the classic lore of blood-suckers we’ve all grown up with, but turns it up to full throttle. And from the early buzz, it’s clear: this movie is about to get Everyone talking.
Starring Michael B. Jordan as a pair of bootlegger twins fresh outta Al Capone’s Chicago and looking to set up a juke joint in their small Mississippi hometown, Sinners isn’t just another vampire movie—it’s a journey into the heart of a haunted era, where every shadow hides something worse than just your average monster.
The film’s not afraid to dig deep, hitting all the right notes of classic horror while also packing a modern punch.

After another landmark weekend at the box office, director Ryan Coogler's Sinners is quickly becoming a cultural event, if it hasn't already. The movie passed the $150 million mark globally this weekend, as it registered one of the softest drops in history. In fact, Coogler's film is out-pacing Jordan Peele's similarly resonant Get Out, which defied horror movie trends and earned an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay some years ago. This weekend's stellar performance helped Sinners become not only one of the biggest horror movies in history, but among the highest-grossing vampire films ever made.
With $122 million domestically and another $39 million from overseas markets, Sinners' cumulative global haul stands at $161 million. This puts it ahead of Stephen Sommers' Van Helsing on the list of the highest-grossing vampire films ever made. At the same time, Sinners also overtook last year's Nosferatu. Leigh Whannell, the writer behind the first three Saw features and the first two Insidiousmovies, has cemented his reputation as a great, creative figure in the horror world. He made his directorial debut with Insidious: Chapter 3 in 2015 and later delivered the highly underrated action-horror film Upgradein 2018. In 2020, Whannell released The Invisible Man, which quickly became one of the most acclaimed horror films in recent years. So, expectations for his next project were reasonably high. However, his recent project, Wolf Man, failed to live up to the legacy of his earlier works. Apart from receiving unfavorable feedback from critics and audiences alike, it also fell short at the box office. Luckily, the film seems to have found the right audience and has even claimed the top spot in Peacock's streaming charts, just a few days after it debuted on the platform on April 18.

We've known for a while that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to begin shooting at the end of the summer, and a new report suggests the plan now is for cameras to roll in early August.
There are concerns among fans about the movie meeting its planned July 2026 release, but whatever happens, it's going to open between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. That points to it being a Multiversal movie, though there's a chance it could still be a "street-level" story if it's set in Battleworld's version of New York.
Of note is the fact that Tom Holland appears to have finished shooting his role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. He's been spotted alongside fiancée Zendaya in Los Angeles, and multiple sources have previously claimed that Spider-Man will factor into Avengers: Doomsday.
Holland now has time to shoot scenes for that movie if he returns to London in the coming months.

Nosferatu casting director Kharmel Cochrane recently revealed that she didn't initially have faith in the film's star, Lily-Rose Depp. Cochrane said Depp's audition proved her wrong.
Cochrane opened up about how she changed her mind regarding Depp's acting abilities during a Q&a session at Scotland's Sands Film Festival, Deadline reports. "I had said absolutely no way to Lily-Rose Depp," Cochrane revealed when talking about the casting process behind Robert Eggers' hit Gothic horror film. "I didn’t think she could act. I hadn’t seen anything that I thought showed she could act."
She also made it clear that Depp proved her entirely wrong when auditioning for the role. "And then she auditioned. I was wrong. And I’ve got no shame in saying if I’m not right." Cochrane also added that she's made amends with the actress, saying: "I had to text Lily-Rose Depp and say I'm sorry.

“I had to text Lily-Rose Depp and say I’m sorry,” casting director Kharmel Cochrane explained this afternoon during a Q&a session at Scotland’s Sands Film Festival.
The apology was on account of Cochrane dismissing Lily-Rose Depp as a serious contender for a leading role in Robert Eggers’s Nosferatu. The vampire remake is one of the many buzzy titles Cochrane has cast in recent years. Her other credits include Saltburn, Rye Lane, and Bob Marley: One Love.
“I had said absolutely no way to Lily-Rose Depp,” Cochrane continued, breaking down the Nosferatu casting process.
“I didn’t think she could act. I hadn’t seen anything that I thought showed she could act. And I’m not even bothered by the nepotism thing. I think that’s a whole other conversation. And then she auditioned. I was wrong. And I’ve got no shame in saying if I’m not right.

This post contains spoilers for "Until Dawn."
There's a moment in "Until Dawn," David F. Sandberg's new film adaptation of the popular video game, where the movie gains a little bit of juice. As the premise of the story is slowly established, the core cast of troubled Clover (Ella Rubin), pining Max, aspiring clairvoyant Megan (Ji-young Yoo), tough chick Nina (Odessa A'zion), and her himbo boyfriend Abe (Belmont Cameli) pull into an abandoned welcome center while searching for Clover's missing sister and quickly realize that they're all caught in a time loop where they'll each die in horrifying ways every night unless they can somehow break the cycle. After being murdered and resurrected, they take shelter in the welcome center's bathroom, thinking they can simply wait out the masked killers and unspeakable horrors of the night and survive until morning. Reasonable assumption!

It is undeniable that "Star Wars" is in a vastly different place than it was 15 or even just 10 years ago. Ever since George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, the franchise has expanded rapidly, with not just a new trilogy but also standalone feature films in-between the saga episodes and, more recently, several live-action TV shows and cartoon series -- plus a final season of "The Clone Wars" and a whole lot of announced "Star Wars" projects that have yet to see the light of day.
Though some of these titles have been wildly successful, be it commercially like "The Force Awakens" or critically like "Andor," there's no denying the franchise is far from cohesive. Not just in terms of the wildly different levels of quality of the projects made in the last decade but also the differences in tone, approach, and even the genre of these "Star Wars" titles.

Peacock, the NBCUniversal streamer under parent Comcast, narrowed its loss to $215 million, from $639 million in the year-ago period, and overall revenue rose 16 percent to $1.2 billion. Peacock ended March 2025 with 41 million paying subscribers after taking in new Charter Communications subscribers, compared with 36 million for the year-end 2024 quarter and the previous third quarter of 2024.
Comcast president Mike Cavanagh during a morning analyst call did not make predictions about the profitability for Peacock for the rest of 2025, but added, “I do expect Peacock to be on a continuing trend of driving towards improved monetization, bigger scale and therefore declining losses over time.”
The media conglomerate reported first quarter overall revenues at $29.8 billion, compared to a year-earlier $30.05 billion. Adjusted Ebitda for the media division rose to $9.5 billion. Comcast beat on a consensus estimate for revenues at $29.68 billion for the first quarter.

Exclusive: The TV and film production sustainability sector is welcoming a new player.
Zsófia Szemerédy, formerly International Manager at BAFTA’s environmentally-focused arm Albert, has launched Leverage Point Entertainment (Lpe). Her London- and Budapest-based boutique sustainability agency aims to close space between artistic vision and environmental responsibility in film, TV, commercial and entertainment production.
Szemerédy said it was aiming to “help the industry see sustainability not as a constraint, but as a creative force.”
As such, Lpe will seek to help creatives and production companies find their ‘leverage point’ for change by building sustainability considerations into storytelling and budgets. It will help with decarbonization strategies, and work with companies to revise their slates and policies around long-term sustainability practices.
Among other services, Lpe will help embed sustainability values in scripts through consultations, and provide training, panels and courses to up-skill industry works. It will also help with building sustainable elements...

In a major shift for Oscar voting protocol, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that members will now be required to confirm they’ve watched all nominated films in a category before being allowed to vote in that race.
The initiative, aimed at strengthening the integrity and credibility of the awards process, combines digital tracking through the Academy Screening Room with member-reported viewings — building on a structure already familiar to Academy voters.
How It Works
Beginning with the 98th Academy Awards, ballots during the final voting phase will only unlock for members who have verified they’ve watched all nominated films in a given category. This requirement applies across all 24 competitive Oscar categories, from best picture and the acting races to costume design and the newly introduced award for casting.

Performers have the uncanny ability to embody a character with nothing more than their acting talents. But sometimes, a role requires the skills of a makeup artist. Throughout film history, there have been many instances when an actor became unrecognizable for a project. In recent years, that has become easier, thanks to motion capture technology and visual effects. For example, Josh Brolin was wearing tennis balls and a bodysuit -- not purple paint -- while playing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which made the character much less terrifying behind the scenes.
However, it's always more impressive when the work is a combination of an actor's abilities and the makeup team's prowess. Whether they turned into a creature of the night or a real-life serial killer, the actors on this list are just some of the stars who became unrecognizable for one of their roles.

Ryan Coogler, the director behind "Black Panther" and "Creed," has proved himself as one of the most valuable and beloved directors in Hollywood. But while the filmmaker had asserted himself as a force to be reckoned with in the realm of franchises, his ability when it came to originals, in terms of delivering at the box office, was not a guarantee. That is no longer the case, however, as Coogler's latest, the original vampire flick "Sinners," had a downright stellar opening weekend.
Hailing from Warner Bros. and starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, "Sinners" opened to $48 million domestically (per Deadline), outperforming "A Minecraft Movie" to claim the top spot on the charts. The movie also pulled in a fair amount of change overseas, giving it a $63.5 million global start. "Minecraft" had topped the charts for the previous two weekends, but, while it was a close race, Coogler and...

This article contains spoilers for "Sinners."
Part of what's made vampires such impactful movie monsters for the better part of the past century is seeing how these bloodsuckers have evolved in tandem with the medium they've thrived in. Their cinematic immortality serves as preserved legends for the next wave of filmmakers to not only learn from, but expand upon. You can glean so much from the creative gap between Carl Theodor Dreyer's "Vampyr" and Terence Fisher's "Horror of Dracula," as much as you can the stretch between Kathryn Bigelow's "Near Dark" and Ana Lily Amirpour's "A Girl Walk Home Alone at Night." Even "Nosferatu" most recently had a visual conversation about its shared legacy between F.W. Murnau and Robert Eggers.
It's safe to say that any conversation about the most prolific vampire movies of the 2020s would be nigh impossible without the inclusion of Ryan Coogler's "Sinners.

Sinnershas done what Get Out, A Quiet Place, and Nosferatu couldn't, and broken through the CinemaScore barrier for horror films. CinemaScore polls opening night audiences on what they thought of a film and if it met their expectations, and no genre has had a more difficult time than horror films. The genre typically gets ratings ranging from Nosferatu's B- to even as low as a D-, which is what Hereditary received. Even critically acclaimed films like Nope or A Quiet Place Part II received an A-, seemingly the highest rating the genre could achieve.
Yet Ryan Coogler's Sinners defied the odds and earned a coveted A rating. This marks the first time an R-rated horror film has earned an A letter grade on CinemaScore since the grading system was created. The latest horror movie to break into the CinemaScore A rating was the PG-13 Five Nights at Freddy's,...

Last summer’s Deadpool & Wolverinewas nothing short of a box office smash, earning more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular Merc with a Mouth/Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine/Logan, the movie was a huge hit with Marvel fans. However, Jackman, during a recent stage show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, jokingly said he had a “gripe” about Reynolds.
Per Daily Mail, Jackman, during a segment of his stage show in which he talked about Deadpool & Wolverine, said of making the blockbuster, “Honestly, I loved it. I had the time of my life.” However, he continued, “I have one little gripe. Don’t tell Ryan.”
“So, Ryan and I are in every scene of the movie, right? It’s Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s in the title. Except in the beginning, because he has to come and find me,” Jackman said.

The vampire subgenre has been at the forefront of horror for over 100 years, and the myths of undead creatures living off of human blood go back countless years further. The best vampire movies ever made are, mostly, incredibly varied. There’s a whole lot of great “Dracula” movies out there, sure, but also art-house nightmares, mainstream action movies, silly comedies, Neo-westerns, heartwarming romances and more. And if you ask us, these are the very, very best.
(Film Arts Guild) “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror” (1922)
F.W. Murnau’s eerie silent classic is 100 years old, and it still has the power to shock and horrify. Telling an extremely plagiarized version of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” – Stoker’s estate successfully sued, and nearly had every single copy of “Nosferatu” destroyed – the film stars Max Schreck as the verminous Count Orlok, who moves from his haunted castle to Germany, and brings a supernatural plague along with him.
