Amazon MGM Studios’ Jack Ryan feature, starring John Krasinski,Sienna Miller, Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly,is preparing to shoot in the UK at the Story Works studio in London.

The as-yet-untitled feature about a CIA analyst is a continuation of theAmazon series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, in which Krasinski also stars. It has been filming in Dubai and will arrive in the UK in the coming weeks.

Andrew Bernstein directs having previously served as executive producer and director on series two. The script is written by Aaron Rabin and is based on characters from Tom Clancy’s book series.

The John Krasinski-led Jack Ryan movie, a continuation of the Prime Video series, is scheduled to begin filming in January 2025, according to reports from Production Bulletin. The film was announced in October 2024, more than a year after the show's final season concluded on July 14, 2023. Andrew Bernstein, known for his role as executive producer and director in the show's second season, will direct the new film, expanding the hit series into a feature-length format.

An American and an “American” are doing a two-hander. John Krasinski and Matthew Rhys are teaming up to executive-produce and star in “Silent River,” a serial killer thriller series for Prime Video, Deadline first reported.

“Silent River” is described as a drama that explores the cracks that break open in a small town in the wake of the discovery that a serial killer lives among them, told through the eyes of two men (Krasinski and Rhys) whose lives are far more connected than they realize. It’s created by “Jack Ryan” writer Aaron Rabin, who also serves as executive producer. Krasinski will direct the pilot and additional episodes, and veteran TV director Andrew Bernstein (“Ozark”) will direct and executive-produce. Allyson Seeger and Alexa Ginsburg will also executive-produce.

News of the series comes as Krasinki and Seeger’s company Sunday Night Productions re-ups its first look deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Prime Video has ordered Silent River, a thriller drama series starring and executive produced by John Krasinski (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) and Matthew Rhys (The Americans). Paramount Global is doing away with its Paramount Television Studios (Ptvs) business and will move all projects over to CBS Studios as part of broader cost cuts at the company.

Ptvs is expected to be fully shut down by Friday, according to memos penned by high-level executives that were sent to employees on Tuesday, a move that will impact series like “Reacher,” “Time Bandits” and the television adaptation of “Interview with the Vampire.” All three of the series are developed by Paramount but distributed by other broadcasters.

“As you’re all aware, Paramount Global has made the difficult decision to close Paramount Television Studios as part of the company’s broader restructuring plans,” Nicole Clemens, the President of Ptvs, said in a memo to employees. “This has been a challenging and transformative time for the entire industry,...

Paramount Television Studios, which has produced shows such as “Reacher” on Amazon Prime Video, Showtime’s “A Gentleman in Moscow,” HBO’s “Station Eleven,” the “Sonic” spinoff “Knuckles,” the series remake of “Fatal Attraction,” and more, is shutting down amid layoffs and cost cuts at Paramount Global, IndieWire has learned.

Paramount is on Tuesday, August 13 beginning layoffs of up to 15 percent of its global workforce, with many of those coming from the U.S. and eliminating other redundant roles. The current Office of the CEO wants to find $500 million in cost-savings, and this is part of an overall $2 billion that new owner Skydance wants to make in cuts once the transaction to merge the two companies closes.

Tom Clancy's first Jack Ryan novel was "The Hunt for Red October," a 1984 thriller about a Russian submarine and the CIA Agent, Ryan, who has to assure the U.S. military brass that it might have a friendly Russian defector on board. Jack Ryan worked for the CIA, was a former Marine, and had previously been both a stockbroker and a history professor. He wasn't so much an action hero as a nerdy guy in a suit who could engage in action should the situation call for it. In Clancy's books, Jack Ryan would eventually become president. The Jack Ryan novels became seminal airport reading for a generation, and Clancy authored or co-authored 14 of them before his death in 2013. Apollo Global Management, a major private-equity firm, has submitted an $11 billion bid to acquire Paramount Pictures and the Paramount TV studios group, according to a published report.

The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources, reported that Apollo Global offered $11 billion for Paramount Global’s film and TV studio business. That would apparently not include CBS, Paramount Global’s cable networks like BET, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV, or the streaming business unit that includes Paramount+ and Pluto TV.

Apollo’s reported offer for Paramount’s studio operations is greater than the market capitalization of Paramount Global in its entirety ($7.3 billion as of March 19). The proposed transaction may include some assumption of Paramount Global’s long-term debt (which stood at $14.6 billion at the end of 2023).

Shares of Paramount Global closed up 11.8% Wednesday on the Journal report, to $12.51/per share, boosting its market cap to nearly $8.7 billion. The stock remains well below its 52-week high of $24/share.

Beta Film has acquired international distribution rights to Serbian crime thriller “Operation Sabre” (“Sablja”) about the assassination of the Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić.

The eight-hour series – selected for Canneseries’ Long Form Competition – is created and directed by Goran Stanković and Vladimir Tagić. The duo already collaborated on “Morning Changes Everything” and wrote the new show alongside Dejan Prćić, Maja Pelević and Marjan Alčevs.

Heading back to March 12, 2003, Stanković and Tagić show the aftermath of the killing that threw the whole country into chaos – only one year after the beginning of the trial against former president Slobodan Milošević, indicted in 1999 for war crimes.

In a report analyzing TV viewership in the U.S. throughout 2023, Nielsen found that “Suits” beat a record previously held by “The Office” for number of minutes watched in a single year.

The legal drama racked up 57.7 billion total minutes watched in 2023, putting it just ahead of the 57.1 billion minutes of viewership accumulated by “The Office” in 2020. When comparing total time watched, though, projects with more episodes and/or longer episodes stand at an obvious advantage. The entirety of “Suits” runs for about 83 hours, which would mean it had an easier time reaching that 57 billion-minute mark than “The Office” did with about 73 hours of content.

Curses! is a new animated series from Apple TV+ and Dreamworks Animation that follows a family trying to reverse a generations-long curse. Ads are coming to Prime Video’s entertainment content. Commercials in movies and series will be introduced in the U.S., UK, Germany, and Canada in early 2024, followed by France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia later in the year.

Prime Video viewers got their first taste of ads on the platform after Amazon landed exclusive rights to Thursday Night Football in a $13.2 billion, 11-year deal that began in 2022. The live football telecasts have been airing with commercial breaks, which will now expand to non-sports content.

There are no details about how big the ad load will be, with Amazon saying that commercials will be “limited” and the goal is “to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers.”

Once again, “Suits” is at the top of Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings. The USA Network series, which concluded in 2019 but has received renewed interest since its debut on Netflix, was watched for 3.9 billion minutes during the week of July 17-23.

Measured across both Netflix and Peacock, that number earns “Suits” the No. 13 spot on the list of the biggest streaming weeks ever since Nielsen began measuring streaming viewership in 2020. The series also recently nabbed the 14th, 15th and 27th entries on that chart. The legal drama earned a record high of 3.698 billion minutes viewed on streaming services during the week of July 10-16, according to Nielsen streaming figures, beating last week’s total by a slim 24 million while increasing by an average of 24 minutes viewed as compared to last week.

Adding in the week’s boost, “Suits” has logged over 12.8 billion minutes of viewing across Netflix and Peacock in four weeks, from June 19 to July 16, and currently stands as the No. 13 most-watched show in terms of total viewing for a streaming title in a week.

Momentum for “Suits” began after the series debuted on Netflix on June 17 and the drama logged 2.3 billion viewing minutes from June 19 to June 25. By June 26 to July 2, “Suits” set its first record for the most-streamed acquired title with 3.1 billion...

Seasoned media executive Gideon Khobane has joined Amazon as the director for Prime Video Africa.

Khobane joins with a remit to support the growth of the Prime Video service across sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa and Nigeria. Working closely with the Africa Originals team, headed up by Ned Mitchell, the content acquisitions team, led by Ayanna Lonian and product teams responsible for launching customer features, Khobane is tasked with helping to provide a mix of original and exclusive TV series and movies for existing Prime Video members and to attract new customers in sub-Saharan Africa.

The executive, whose experience over his 18-year career ranges from pay-tv to free-to-air broadcasters across sub-Saharan Africa, most recently served as a group executive responsible for general entertainment for the Multichoice Group, and previous to that, served as CEO of SuperSport International and channel director at M-Net. Khobane will continue to be based in South Africa.
