  • Warning: Spoilers
Fans of the 2 stars know they became an item after this movie. So it may be worth watching for that. But the story is cliched then ridiculous. The romance seemed to jump from 0 to 100 without much of a reason. The sister's behaviour at the end is too crazy. The soundtrack with opera is jarring and wrong. Not worth watching.

An easy movie to watch, with, at times, truly breathtaking shots, giving this movie a sort of art-house feel to it.

"Di san zhong ai qing" is about the bitter sweet love story between wealthy business man Lin Qizheng and intelligent lawyer Zou Yu.

Sweet because of her initial resistance against his flirtations and the passion and love so sweetly depicted when she finally gives in.

Bitter because of the certain aspects in both of their backgrounds that seemingly make their love affair doomed from the start: Zou Yu lives with her chronically depressed sister, who works for Lin and has a unrequited crush on him, leading to her attempting to take her own life; Lin Qizheng on the other hand is so absorbed in his father's company that when his elder brother launders an incredible amount of money, his father sees no other solution than to marry him off to the daughter of his longtime friend - who in turn has no objection to the plan, in fact, she has been waiting for it for years.

I'm sure the love story between this movie's two main stars (who are dating in real life) is a happier one.

I am giving this 10 stars because of the great execution of cinematography and screenplay. You see that the metaphor 'the number 3, being the third' is evident in the whole duration of the film. And people can see realness in this film that GREAT LOVE doesn't need a fairy tale-like happy ending. The film is not bitter. It's real.
  • The ending is ambiguous and the title of the movie leaves open the question of what will the third way of love be for these two lovers. I believe they will not be able to be apart. Once the business problems are rectified and the business becomes solvent again and succeeds, they will be reunited....in the third way of love. They are fated to be together as they desired. In the last moments of the film, we learn that. Lin Qizheng's parents were forced into the same kind of business contractual marriage between families. Trapped in a loveless contractual marriage and abysmally unhappy, CEO Lin Qizheng's mother committed suicide by drowning herself in a lake. CEO Lin Qizheng sobs, saying he cannot repeat his parents' situation of unhappiness and that he has to change. Lawyer Zou yu keeps saying there is nothing they can do to change their situation, they are from different worlds. Lawyer Zou yu crying, tells Lin Qizheng they cannot change the present situation of his being forced into a contractual marriage. But I am left with the feeling that CEO Lin Qizeng, flying alone on the plane heading to Hong Kong, and sobbing as he holds the scarf that Lawyer Zou yu gave him, must be trying his best to find a solution to his unhappiness and loneliness. The reason I believe this is because his wife is not with him. I believe CEO Lin Qizheng will not be able to live without his true and only love, Lawyer Zou yu. These lovers may currently have to be separated for awhile but I believe they will end up together permanently in 3 or 5 or even 10 years. They will be able to dance on the moon together and find happiness in each other's arms.

Although it's an old-fashioned story of the president falling in love with the common people, it's a pity that the director controls the plot rhythm. In the end, when the heroine stands on the overpass donated by the hero, the regret and melancholy that the lovers can't be together are pushed to the climax, which makes me feel the same for it.
  • Other than that, I must say this movie got so many unacceptable flaws and weaknesses. First of all, it seems that this movie got some heavy investment from the Taiwanese, that's why they have to use some lousy and bad Taiwanese actors and actresses as part of it. But sadly, these bad Taiwanese actors simply ruined it by poor acting and the even worse fowl, i.e., the terrible delivery of their assigned dialog. Once they open their mouths to deliver their dialog, the movie immediately look pretentious and unrealistic, just feel so pretentious and phony.

The screenplay is just okay, but kind of weak and uninteresting. There's no energy in it, no passion at all. The whole movie is supported only by the two leading male and female actors that result a deadbeat storyline and scenario, both cliched heavily. What would make you continue to watch is because of the handsome dude and the pretty face of Liu. Okay to watch, if you don't have other choice at hand.
