  • Francesca Eastwood, is great and a fresh actress, who really knows how to electrify her performances. She reminds me a lot of Asia Argento (another famous actor, director father), in the sort of roles she's choosing and how she comes across on screen. She's very talented and certainly has a screen presence. The rape revenge plot has been done over and over but this movie has a lot of social comment to digest; although it tends to be a bit heavy handed at times. The ending is quite a satisfactory and moving conclusion.
  • I read a few reviews before deciding to write this and what I read was they felt this movie was an attack on men in general and that in order to enjoy this movie you had to be a hardcore feminist. Well that's just nuts, as a male I for one liked this film. at one point after I read the reviews I tried to stop watching , I guess I felt that I had to support y gender since that is what they thought. But I just couldn't. There was something that pulled me into it. made me want to watch it all. The reviews that I have read that critic this movie in a negative way are not really critiquing the movie but how they side with the story being told. Saying the movie is bad because its unfair towards men is a weak critic about the movie itself and more of a view into what that person thinks about strong women to begin with. The movie itself is rather slowed paced but always kept me intrigue enough to want to sit and watch it all. Its not my typical type of movie , I am more of an action pact movie guy but every now and then I find myself captivated by a slow paced film such as this.

This movie would have to appease the internal fantasies of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of women victims of rape whose outcry for help and for justice has invariably been suppressed and unheard, only then to backfire causing further anguish due to the severe flaws in our judicial systems and society abroad, whereby all our faith is put in this system so that we can go about our day with a makeshift smile on our face whilst feeling what we believe to be 'secure'.

All opinions aside about 'law and order' and whether it's always 'just' or not since the topic is oddly controversial despite the evidence that it is not.. This movie was executed nicely (all pun intended). I applaud the rogue vigilante acted by Francesca Eastwood for her portrayal of a victim suffering and for her very believable no-bs approach to justice - a true warrior of truth in every sense of the term and every ounce of my blood boiled in her moments of contention in hopes that she survived and evades any kind of consequences.

Pulling these moments along was a compelling heart beat themed soundtrack with cleverly overlaid voice effects when the necessary that portrayed the inner psyche reflecting on itself. All sets where also compelling enough too, but obviously nothing too notably being just another university campus.

The big question that remains for me after viewing this film and to which I believe the jury to still be out on is: Is redemption possible? Since my father was a supposed rapist, or worse yet.. a pedophile, you can imagine my feelings toward this topic are strong, but strong enough to commit any acts like those in this film? maybe I am weak unlike our main character in this film, but I remain similarly f#%ked up regardless and I remain perplexed despite the allegation against him being lifted as to whether or not he still deserves a visit from real justice or has the time been and gone?

Maybe if the movie was released during the #metoo movement, it might have done really well at the box office. It does have Clint Eastwoods daughter in the main role and of course it does have the topic of sexual abuse. There is some reality behind it all which may make some people uncomfortable. 1) because of the subject matter and 2) because of how it handles the topic after it (where it descends into the fantastic and unbelievable).

While I don't agree with everything the movie is portraying, the movie itself says that our main protagonist isn't always on the right side (of her mind) either. So if you try to nitpick, there is a lot you can find here. But if you accept this as a thriller and a bit of social message in between, you should be ok. Sit back, relax and do try to take the positive the movie is trying to tell/sell

I see there are a lot of mixed feelings about M.F.A. It will for sure not win any awards but it's still good enough to entertain you on a cold winter night. The story might not be overly developped but it's easy to understand and to watch. Not really a revenge movie, more a vigilante movie of a rape victim taking justice in her own hands. Francesca Eastwood did a good job playing her character. The rest of the cast wasn't bad either, nothing great, but not bad either. I would have made the killing scenes a bit bloodier and more sadistic to make it a better horror movie. I think that would have been better for the movie and this genre of movie. All in all it's an okay movie if you don't have too much expectations.
  • Take on the very serious problem ...not enough realism to make it really worthy of the problem discussed and not enough violence to make it a satisfactory revenge film. It's like director just touched the surface of a very deep and dirty pond , without making a real splash , to wake up audience .

"I spit on your grave" , it is not ...
  • Noelle (Francesca Eastwood) is studying painting at a Californian college for her MFA. She is invited to a party by hunky classmate Luke. They make out but the sex turns rough. She tries to stop but is overpowered by him. Her neighbor Skye counsels letting it go as she had done with her own rape. Noelle decides to report to the school therapist but her questioning is accusatory. She joins a help group but the girls are ineffectual. She confronts Luke and accidentally kills him. She decides to turn into a vigilante. Police detective Kennedy (Clifton Collins Jr.) investigates.

Clint's daughter Francesca Eastwood is an interesting new actress. She hasn't broken through yet but she has the charisma to get noticed. She has a nice dark side and does damaged well. The writing is a little pedestrian but it generally works. More needs to be given to Clifton Collins Jr. His is the key for tension and drama but he isn't given the needed material. Generally, this is fine but it doesn't really push the envelope.

    5/10
    Meh
Good ideas, sometimes bad and laughable execution, not realistic at all. A great performance save it from being an entirely bad film, but it's not very compelling either.
  • This movie follows one main character, Noelle. She is an art major that is struggling to evolve. She decided to go to a party to meet up with a guy from class that she finds attractive and ends up getting raped. Her claims summarily dismissed, she goes to confront her rapist and ends up killing him by accident. This sends her down a path where she exacts revenge on rapists for other women, though they do not know she is doing it.

This is another take of the revenge movie, less rough than the I Spit On Your Grave movies. Francesca Eastwood does a phenomenal job in this movie as does the supporting cast. She just outshines them by a lot.

There is some nudity from both genders here and a lot of talk and imagery of rape. If that sort of thing does not bother you, then gives this a view.
  • This is a lackluster revenge tale , revenge for rape. Obviously on campus rape has been an issue for a very long time on colleges. But the attention it is given in this film is stupid. How easily the victim turned protagonist gets away with murder is laughable. Let's face it, rape is a harder charge to prove than is murder.

Add to the bad plot some rather boring methodical scriptwriting, lack of originality, and some very stupid college guys who just seemed like they were begging to be killed, and you've got a real dud of a movie here.

    3/10.
  • Triggering. Unyielding. Difficult to watch. More difficult to stop watching. Triumphant. Tragic. Watching a rape victim deal with the trauma of her assault and take that power and wield it for good. Yes I said good. Despite what other reviews may say this movie was phenomenal. How many movies are out there where a male takes on the vigilante role or avenges a female rape victim only to be praised?! So, so many. I find no problem with a powerful and complex women with excellent character development and killer acting to take on the role of bad-ass-rape-avenging-vigilante. The best part of this movie was how true it speaks to the actual anguish and emotions victims feel AND how it ACCURATELY portrays how both victims and perpetrators are treated. Thank you for this movie.

I think this movie tries to be a bit more than your typical revenge flick but it kinda comes up short. They really needed to make at least a little bit of an effort to make the revenge scenes more realistic. One of the biggest issues is the sheer size of the main character. If you are going to cast someone this small you need to do a better job of creating realistic scenarios where she kills these clearly stronger guys. Also her ability to avoid suspicion is ungodly.

Detective: You were the only person at the dead guy's house the same night he died?

    Girl: Yes.

    Detective: Why'd you come over?

Girl: To talk. He wanted to have sex, I didn't feel like it soz I left after a few min. he must've died after I left, that's so weird.

Detective: Alright seems good to me I don't need any more follow on questions, I think I'll go grow a beard now.
  • I was not impressed. It's basically the usual revenge-after-a-rape movie, but here rape victim Noelle doesn't settle for calling to account her actual rapist (accidentally killing him in the process), but for some reason she decides to attack other random rapists that she hears about in the news, turning herself into a relentless and sadistic killing-machine. I found it very hard to relate this sudden outburst of lethal aggression with the shy and insecure girl from before the rape, as well as the fact that she specifically used sexual contact to lure her victims, in spite of the psychological trauma of her own ordeal.

The script was very one-dimensional, just kill after kill after kill, while in the meantime we see Noelle more and more bloom and creating better artworks. Francesca Eastwood plays Noelle ice-cold and without much expression, I was more impressed by Leah McKendrick as her roommate Skye, who's part in my opinion was much better written.

The end of the movie is rather cynical; at the hight of Noelle's personal growth (I have to admit: she delivers a fine valedictory speech!) justice is at last served, but the way in which this closing scene is directed seems to leave no doubt whatsoever as that Noelle is considered a just fighter against women's oppression and a true heroine, who's wings are now being sadly clipped. As if sadistically killing rapists is ever justifiable in the first place. With me it did leave a somewhat bitter taste.

Noelle (Eastwood) is a painter, attending a university for her Masters Degree in Fine Arts (hence the movie title). While a gorgeous girl, Noelle is a bit shy and unsure of herself. One day a fellow art student whom Noelle had a bit of a crush on asks her to attend a party he and his fraternity bros are putting on.

Noelle, obviously excited, spends a bit of time getting ready and looks like a million bucks. She goes to the party, and this guy is just about everything she could want. Good looking, smart, and the way he talks about art,, well Noelle is smitten. So he takes her up to his room where the have a beer and keep talking,, then things go sideways. They begin to make out a little. Then the guy gets rough and shoves Noelle onto his bed. She says wait, and he shoves his hand up her dress. At this point she's obviously scared, says "no", and tries to get away. He grabs her by the throat, pins her down and says, "be a good girl."

I won't go into any more detail, other than to say that he rapes her.

Noelle gets home and crumbles into a ball of tears. She goes to the university and tells someone in charge what happened, but they do nothing.

Noelle then finds out that she is hardly the only rape victim there at her school. What about the other rapists? What was done? She comes to find out that they're all still very free. While their victims live in fear, humiliation, and disgust. How long to they rape someone else?

    Where are the police?!?

With what she went through, and after seeing how many others had gone through it as well,, Noelle takes the law into her own hands.

I'd give this one a 6.3 rating overall. Pretty good and Eastwood brings a lot with her performance as Noelle. The subject matter is of course difficult to deal with, but it's an unfortunate reality. While taking the law into your own hands is wrong,, I can't say I'd shed tears over the loss of some rapists.

Francesca Eastwood stars as Noelle our protagonist art student at Balboa University in a rape-revenge film.

Who doesn't love a good rape-revenge film. I did an on-line search and discovered there were over a 100 listed and a few that I have seen that were missing from the list. There are two things that distinguish this one from the pack. One is the timely message. This takes place on a college campus and deals with the issues of reporting the rape where the victim is blamed. The second is Francesca brings great face to the screen. Clearly the "B" movie horror/thriller genre is her calling...or at least where I like to see her act.

Guide: F-word, rape, nudity (Francesca Eastwood, male victim, female model)
  • Warning: Spoilers
A female art student is raped at college. She does not like it. She takes revenge and kills a few rapists. She goes to jail. Not a really good film.
  • It's somewhere between a six and a seven. So went for seven simply because the lead actress is so good. Really good solid acting. Logically the story progresses from victim to losing the plot. She gets to graduate. Sad story really. But understandable all the same.
  • I wanted this film to be more brutal and just better than I Spit On Your Grave, but it wasn't. Mediocre, not that great, just move on.
  • jakebrann1 October 2021
Watchable but kind of ridiculous! She goes from a nobody who's paintings suck to being the "transformed student" speaker at their graduation when she did umm... nothing!

Another movie with an 80 pound woman taking down guys twice her size or more. It's whatever. Watchable with many parts FF through.
  • .. and I get that some women who've had bad experiences with men may connect in some way to this flick, but from a purely creative standpoint its really a pretty vacant slasher-type flick. Good girl goes nuts, look out world - basically its only in the how after that and its just not interesting. Yawn.

I loved this movie because the director went all out. Hugely satisfying if you hate rape culture, hate rape, and hate ignorance. This was therapy.

I felt the film was well researched and thought out. There was meticulous attention to detail on each and every scene.

For the haters that think the rape vigilante didn't go far enough? Not much revenge? I guess you've never been mutilated by scissors... LOL. Wow some of the comments are just so mind numbing. I guess that's the society we live in.

It's not a man hater movie, it's a call to attention on an important topic and conversation that is finally relevant. Some people want to be a part of the conversation, others do not. Watch the movie if you want to be a part of the conversation. There's plenty of likable men/characters. But our heroine is a female badass who takes the law into her own hands and dishes revenge on the men who committed atrocities. She dishes revenge without apology. But just to clarify, female killing male movie does not amount to "man-hater movie." If that were the case, then all the movies made about men killing women should be categorized as "woman-hater movies."

So yeah, if you want to see a rape survivor dish some major pay back to the bros that ruthlessly rape and get away with it... this is the film to see. Francesca Eastwood is so badass. I loved the ending.
  • I liked the movie only for its soundtrack and great performance by Francesca Eastwood. As for the story, it's totally unfair, unjustified and biased.

Would I suggest this movie? Yes, because even if from a male perspective the story is unfair and hugely exaggerated, it still delves into the feminine mind of the director and has its own merits. The story contains good surprises too.

6 out of 10 because it could be a more realistic and balanced movie .

Compare this to the movie "I Spit On Your Grave". You will see this was a Disney version of rape revenge.
  • I love a good revenge story, and MFA hit the mark for me. The rape scene was certainly not an easy watch. It seemed real and felt right in the scene - I felt uncomfortable in the moment. The cinematography was beautiful throughout the film and it made me want to check out more of Kovalchik's work. I loved the tracking shot when Eastwood was walking thru the locker room to the showers. The whole movie was done really well. Eastwood's acting was great. I wish the ending was different and she was able to get away with what she was fighting for, but I get it. I definitely recommend this film!

PS - I thought it was creepy, especially for the theme of the movie for Collins Jr being the detective trying to bring Eastwood down. They are married in real life with over a 20 year age difference. I thought it was weird. But it's Hollywood for ya eh....
