The story of Togo, the sled dog who led the 1925 serum run yet was considered by most to be too small and weak to lead such an intense race.
Seppala, portrayed by Willem Dafoe, was known for the humane way in which he kept his dogs, at a time when such things weren't commonplace. After every Iditarod, The Seppala Humanitarian Award is awarded by the race veterinarians and is given to the musher who takes the best care of their dog team while remaining competitive during the Iditarod race and is highly prized by the mushers.
What does he bring to the breed?
Constance Seppala: The heart of a survivor.
Togo's harness is completely different from the way it was in real life. In real life, the harness was the same shape as modern skijoring/biking harnesses and had no strap connecting the chest strap to the belly strap. In the film, the harness is similar to a modern X-back harness, but is made of leather with a thick collar.
