Lizzie was famous for being the prime suspect in killing her mother in law and then her father. It was widely acknowledged there were squabbles over money with her father's new wife and the murder weapon was found in the basement, plus witnesses (with no vested interest) that cast suspicion on Lizzie.

Lizzie has become somewhat of a feminist icon (probably because of the violence and "getting away with it"). Most feminists overlook murdering her mother in law first and the generous wealth the family had. Instead, they focus in on sexual abuse allegations (which should have meant the father was killed first and only the father was killed). I digress.

It's fascinating to watch how much we glorify violent and murderous women today (eg. domestic violence by a mother on her child is almost never reported in the papers). It will be fascinating to see how today's generation is viewed in 20 years time with glorification of murderers and endorsement of violent female family members.

If you're a feminist and you want to root for someone who murdered a man and woman in the peace of their own home and then inherited a lot of money, this is your film. I appreciate why she's a feminist icon. Intolerant, violent, self-seeking, wealthy - and heavy backing by the main stream media, no matter how despicable. She would have been glorified by the metoo movement.
