Jessica Biel And Elizabeth Banks Outrun A Murder, A Killer And The Truth In ‘The Better Sister’ Trailer
Image
Prime Video released the trailer for its upcoming series The Better Sister starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, this morning.

“My husband has been murdered, and my sister is here,” Biel’s Chloe says at the beginning of the clip. “And though I am feeling anxiety about this, I release it.”

This mantra, accompanied with a facial tapping technique, is interspersed with a shot of Chloe Taylor’s husband Adam Macintosh (Corey Stoll) at a fancy gala of some sort applauding her as she receives an award or some kind of recognition. Banks’ Nicky Macintosh is also seen wandering Chloe’s house. An anguished Chloe bending over her kitchen sink does not affirm the release of all this tension she has just dictated.

The trailer only gets twistier as Chloe’s discovery of her dead husband unfolds, leading to her taking mugshots in a white dress smothered in blood.

“Neither really amounted to anything”: Michael Gandolfini Deserves Better After ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Wasted Him For an Entire Season
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers ahead for Daredevil: Born Again

Michael Gandolfini has come a long way since his film debut in Ocean’s 8. The actor was seen in Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again as Mayor Wilson Fisk’s ‘Minister of Propaganda’, Daniel Blake. He is a Yes-man to Fisk’s unconstitutional takeover of the city, which occurs throughout the season and hits its peak in the finale.

Gandolfini does a decent job in the show, but is seriously let down by the writing. Apart from one episode, his status as Fisk’s close ally does not really add much other than predictable support to Fisk’s policies. While he rises through the ranks and even becomes complicit in Fisk’s newest attack on New York’s liberty and freedom, there is a lot more to explore.

Was Michael Gandolfini robbed of a good character arc post-overhaul in Daredevil: Born Again? Michael...

Let It Be Natalie Portman Dealing With Divorce or Anne Hathaway Facing Her Deepest Insecurity- Rihanna Can Help Them All
Image
Not all heroes wear capes. Some show up in diamonds, shades, and a fire outfit that makes the room stop breathing. Let us say this straight — in a world where compliments are as rare as a clear inbox on a Monday morning, Rihanna’s words come like rain after a drought. In January 2023, amid the couture chaos of Paris Fashion Week, Natalie Portman bumped into Rihanna — and what looked like a celebrity run-in turned into a masterclass in empowerment.

Rihanna didn’t hand out advice, therapy, or a Ted Talk — she just casually boosted Portman’s confidence with just one line. And it hit harder than a double espresso on a sleepless night. Portman, going through a divorce at the time, said it was exactly the pick-me-up she didn’t know she needed.

Sandra Bullock’s Traumatic Experience That May Have Made Her Say No to Filming Intimate Scenes: ‘Finally, I said, please just fire me’
Image
Over the years, there have been several stories regarding people in power abusing the authority they’ve been given. Unfortunately, these types of situations often arise within the movie industry, not only in America but all across the world. Sometimes, actors fall prey to authoritative figures who tend to make unwanted advances and it’s incredibly sad to hear Sandra Bullock, one of Hollywood’s finest talents went through this.

On the bright side, this particular instance that had Bullock in a rather tough situation also helped her realize the power of the word “no”. The good news is, people who spoke out about these incidents brought a lot of change in the way people, especially men carry themselves on set, as per Bullock.

Every Confirmed Guest Star in Poker Face Season 2
Image
The first teaser for Poker Face Season 2 has dropped, promising more mystery-solving fun with Natasha Lyonne's human lie detector, Charlie Cale. The first season earned huge accolades for its clever updating of 1970s TV staples like Columbo. Every week, a new murderer appears, seemingly getting away with the perfect crime, only for Charlie to show up and unravel it all with her uncanny ability to spot someone deceiving her.

In keeping with the Columbo formula, Poker Face brings in a rotating series of high-profile guest stars, who usually appear as the various killers of the week. The template provides A-list actors with a meaty role, and yet doesn't tie them down to the long-term commitments of appearing in multiple episodes. The second season looks to capitalize on the success of the first with an impressive array of announced guest stars. With a few exceptions, it is not known who...

“I didn’t care about the heist”: Sandra Bullock’s ‘Ocean’s 8’ Forgot What Made George Clooney’s Original Great That the Sequel Must Adapt
Image
Sandra Bullock’s Ocean’s 8 had the glitz, the glam, and the star power – but it missed the magic. Unlike George Clooney’s Ocean’s 11, where the heist was The thrilling centerpiece, Bullock’s version treated it like an afterthought.

While Clooney’s crew made scheming look effortlessly cool, Ocean’s 8 focused more on style than strategy. If a sequel happens, it better learn from the original, because a slick con without the thrill is just a fashion show with diamonds.

Cate Blanchett’s 12 Best Performances: ‘Black Bag,’ ‘Tár,’ ‘Carol,’ and More
Image
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in August 2024. It has since been updated with new entries, including “Black Bag.”]

When director Todd Field sat down and wrote his film “Tár,” there was only one option to play the title character. As he described to IndieWire in an interview, the film wouldn’t have been made if Cate Blanchett hadn’t agreed to take the part of lauded conductor Lydia Tár. “I had no backup plan,” he told IndieWire. “I’d met Cate 10 years ago and I knew coming out of that meeting that I had just been in conversation with somebody that had one of the great brains I ever met. And it was someone that I was really, really desperate to be able to collaborate with.”

It might seem silly to hinge your entire film on the participation of a single actor; the Australian Blanchett doesn’t share any notable biographical details with the fictional American conductor that makes her casting meaningful in a meta sense.

Village Roadshow Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Image
Village Roadshow Entertainment Group has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, TheWrap has learned.

The production company behind “The Matrix,” “Joker,” “Wonka” and “Ocean’s 8” previously sued Warner Bros. for breach of contract after their co-producer dropped “The Matrix Resurrections” on Max the same day as its theatrical release, a detail they reiterated in their paperwork.

“The company historically enjoyed a prolific co-production, co-financing and co-ownership relationship with WB, which included the production, ownership and derivative rights flowing from 89 titles – including the ‘Matrix’ franchise – and comprised the vast majority of the Debtors’ business,” the documents filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware and obtained by TheWrap on Monday read.

They continued, “The WB arbitration has caused the company to incur more than $18,000,000 in legal fees, nearly all of which remain unpaid, and presents the threat of a potential arbitration award that could flatten the company’s balance sheet,...

Some of the Most Audacious Moves We’ve Seen in Casino Games On Film
Image
It’s said that all of the greatest movie stars can make the camera fall in love with them. But something else that the camera is undoubtedly besotted by is the casino. There’s something about these places that make them a natural for filmmakers, in fact there are plenty of things.

Firstly, they’re uniquely glamorous locations that are also full of action. From spinning roulette wheels to slots games flashing enticingly, they make for a great background to the action. Then there’s the drama of the games themselves. We see characters winning and losing fortunes on the turn of a card thus reversing their role in the movie.

The fact that conflict lies at the heart of all drama also makes them a great place for adversaries to face off against each other. Nowhere is this better exemplified than in the first of out audacious moves.

Anne Hathaway Was Once Hollywood’s ‘Most Hated’ Star—Here’s How She Took Back Her Crown
Image
Did Anne Hathaway face a lot of hate from Hollywood in 2010s? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Anne Hathaway just admitted it cost her some big roles due to her hate era. “A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” she told Vanity Fair.

But what even started all the hate? Flashback to 2011 — Hathaway co-hosted the Oscars with James Franco, and it was a mess. She was overly eager, he looked half-asleep, and the internet roasted them both. Franco didn’t help, throwing shade on The Late Show with David Letterman: “Anne Hathaway is so energetic, I think the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to Anne Hathaway.” Ouch.

Then came The Dark Knight Rises, where fans weren’t sold on her as Catwoman. And in 2013, after winning her Oscar for Les Misérables, every acceptance speech...

Sandra Bullock's Beloved 2000 Action Comedy Lands On Netflix's Top Charts
Image
These days, Sandra Bullock is basically Hollywood royalty. She's an Academy Award winner who's been nominated for the Best Actress Oscar twice, makes pretty consistently good movies, occasionally pops up in buzzy projects like "The Lost City" and "Ocean's Eight," and is one of the most recognizable performers in the entire industry. Back in the 1990s and 2000s, though, Bullock was pretty much known for one genre: romantic comedies. Now, one of her funniest, breeziest films is making waves on Netflix after landing in the number four spot on the streamer's top 10 movies on February 10, 2025 (as reported by FlixPatrol).

"Miss Congeniality," which hit theaters in 2000, casts Bullock as Gracie Hart, a tough-as-nails special agent for the FBI who never makes much of an effort to appear "ladylike" or "pretty." This approach isn't causing any problems for her generally, but when a case surfaces that involves a bomb threat at a Texas beauty pageant,...

Ocean’s 14 | David Leitch in line to direct
Quinn Carrillo, Sean De Guzman, Hershie De Leon, and Tiffany Grey in Fall Guy (2023)
The Fall Guy director David Leitch is the latest filmmaker to be linked with Warner Bros’ heist sequel, Ocean’s 14.

Warner Bros has explored ways to spin out films from its Ocean’s series in the 18 years since Ocean’s 13 released, talk about another entry in the mainline series has slowly been picking up pace. George Clooney and Brad Pitt are said to be keen to reunite, having recently done so for Jon Watts’ Wolfs. Clooney stated a few months ago that a “great script” was in place, and now it seems the search for a director is gathering momentum.

Steven Soderbergh, director of the first three Ocean’s films, has indicated in the past that he isn’t interested in returning to make another. According to The Insneider, David Leitch is now in the frame to pick up the reins. Leitch’s recent filmography focuses on big action set pieces in a comic style,...

Director David Leitch in Talks to Direct 'Ocean's 14'
Image
David Leitch could soon be sailing into the Ocean's franchise waters; the fan-favorite action director is reportedly in early talks to helm Ocean's 14. The upcoming feature will mark the first of the franchise films starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney that Steven Soderbergh will not direct. Clooney will also be involved in Ocean's 14, reprising his role as Danny Ocean and serving as a producer.

It's an exciting development for fans of Leitch's work and the series itself, given his previous work directing mega-action flicks like John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. That last one was a particularly personal one for the director, given his time working as a stuntman (often with Pitt) before becoming a director. He also directed the raucous Bullet Train, which starred Pitt as the unlucky assassin Ladybug. Pitt, though not officially confirmed, is expected...

David Leitch
“The Fall Guy” and “Deadpool 2” director David Leitch is in talks to direct “Ocean’s 14” for Warner Bros. Discovery, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

George Clooney and Brad Pitt are expected to return. The duo last starred in “Ocean’s 13,” back in 2007.

“We have a really good script for another ‘Ocean’s’ now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script,” Clooney previosuly said. While he was reluctant to call it “Ocean’s Fourteen,” he did say, “The idea is kind of like ‘Going In Style,’” referencing the 1979 film written and directed by Martin Brest, starring George Burns, Art Carney and Lee Strasberg, about three elderly friends who decide to break the monotony of their lives by pulling off a heist.

“The Fall Guy” and filmmaker David Leitch is in talks to direct “Ocean’s 14” for Warner Bros.

George Clooney’s Smokehouse banner is behind the fourth film in the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise, so it’s expected the star will return alongside Brad Pitt, who collaborated with Leitch on “Bullet Train.”

The original “Ocean’s” trilogy, directed by Steven Soderbergh, featured Clooney and Pitt alongside Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Casey Affleck and more. The heist trilogy launched in 2001 with “Ocean’s Eleven,” a critical favorite and a commercial hit with just over $450 million at the worldwide box office, and continued with 2004’s “Ocean’s Twelve” ($362 million) and 2007’s “Ocean’s Thirteen” ($311 million).

A female-centered spinoff, 2018’s “Ocean’s 8,” starred Sandra Bullock as the sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean with Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway. The movie hit the $297 million mark worldwide.

‘Fall Guy’ Director David Leitch in Talks for ‘Ocean’s 14’
Image
David Leitch — the stuntman turned director behind John Wick and The Fall Guy — is in talks to direct a new Ocean’s movie, a knowledgeable source confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

TheInSneider was the first to report the news.

The latest film in the heist movie franchise is expected to see the return of George Clooney as Danny Ocean, with Clooney’s Smokehouse banner behind the Warner Bros. project. Brad Pitt, who worked with his former stunt double Leitch on Bullet Train, is also expected to return. The ensemble also includes Matt Damon and Casey Affleck.

All of the Ocean’s movies star a group of criminals pulling off increasingly daring heists. Ocean’s 13, the most recent to star Pitt and Clooney, came out in 2007. The three films in the franchise grossed over $420 million at the domestic box office. A female-fronted spinoff, Ocean’s 8, arrived in 2018.

David Leitch in early talks to direct Ocean’s 14, with George Clooney and Brad Pitt expected to return
Image
The InSneider has reported that David Leitch is in early talks to direct Ocean’s 14, the latest installment of the heist franchise featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt alongside an all-star ensemble. It was previously reported that Conclave director Edward Berger was being courted to develop the film, but it appears that didn’t work out.

George Clooney actually teased another Ocean’s project in 2023, saying, “We have a really good script for another Ocean’s now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script.” The actor wouldn’t spill any other details, only to say that “the idea is kind of Going in Style.” The film Clooney refers to is a 1979 heist comedy starring George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg as three friends who decide to rob a bank. The film was remade in 2017 by Zach Braff, with Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin,...

When Johnny Depp & Mark Wahlberg Told Ocean’s Eleven Producers To ‘F**k Off’
Image
Did Johnny Depp and Mark Wahlberg ask Ocean Eleven’s producers to get lost? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

When George Clooney and director Steven Soderbergh pitched them Ocean’s Eleven, the two A-listers didn’t just say no; they delivered a full-on Hollywood “f**k off.” Fast forward two decades, and Clooney claims they’re kicking themselves over that choice.

Speaking at the 2023 TCM Classic Film Festival, Clooney didn’t hold back: “Some very famous people told us to f**k right off. Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp. There were others.” That’s right, Ocean’s Eleven was apparently too slick for some egos back then.

And oh, what a mistake. The movie went on to gross over $450M globally, spawning two sequels and the spin-off Ocean’s Eight. With a cast headlined by Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts, it oozed style, wit, and swagger. Meanwhile, Depp and Wahlberg opted out of...

The 15 Best Modern Heist Movies
Image
There’s a reason we keep coming back to the heist movie genre, again and again and again. That’s because although most movies would have you believe that committing crimes is bad, we can’t help but respect a character who does it well. Robbing a little old lady on the street is unforgivable, sure, but robbing a wealthy old lady who keeps her hoard of ill-gotten money in an impenetrable vault surrounded by lasers and mercenaries? You gotta respect the moxie of anybody who even tries. And if they succeed, well dang, good for them. It sounds like they earned every penny.

There’s no shortage of classic heist movies, but with income inequality on our minds, and billionaires actively destroying everything decent about this planet every single day, the genre seems particularly alluring in the 21st century. Maybe that’s why we’ve had so many classic...

Awkwafina's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
The best Awkwafina movies and TV shows highlight the unique talents - especially when it comes to vocal delivery - that have ensured she’s cemented a legacy as an inimitable comedic talent. Born in New York in 1988, Awkwafina (real name Nora Lum) has been an active performer since 2005. She first began using the stage name Awkwafina at age 15, conceiving the alter-ego as a semi-parody of the way many brands adopt feminine slants on their name to appeal to female consumers.

While now known as an actor, Awkwafina originally made her big break as a rapper with the 2012 parody song “My Vag”, releasing her solo album Yellow Ranger two years later in 2014. Her music echoes the same comedic talent as her acting, so it’s no surprise she’d eventually find her feet as a comedian. After an appearance on MTV’s Girl Code between 2014-2016, Awkwafina got her big...

25 Best Heist Movies Of All Time, Ranked
Image
The best heist movies fuse elements of many different genres. They encompass a broad range of stories and filmmaking styles because they are so adaptable. As long as a team of characters is all working together to steal something, then it falls under the category of a heist movie. The genre isn't restricted to any tone, time period, or particular style. Of course, the heist genre has more than its fair share of stereotypes, but the best filmmakers know how to use these to their benefit.

The heist genre has produced some of cinema's most gripping thrillers and some of its funniest comedies. Violence features frequently, like in Snatch and Point Break, but it isn't a necessity. Other movies use a heist as the perfect excuse to craft a slick mystery, with the criminals outsmarting their victims without them ever knowing they were there. Whichever approach a heist movie decides to take,...

Why Brits Are Mourning the End of Their Beloved ‘Gavin & Stacey,’ According to James Corden
Image
What started as an inconspicuous boy-meets-girl tale swiftly became a cult classic in the U.K. On Wednesday night, Gavin & Stacey aired its final episode on the BBC.

James Corden and co-creator Ruth Jones began this journey years ago, long before Corden had made any impact in the U.S. with appearances in Ocean’s Eight (2018), Cats (2019) and, of course, on The Late Late Show.

The Wales and Essex-set sitcom became a career springboard for the pair, solidifying their status as comedy greats in a competitive industry as Gavin & Stacey went on to enjoy a healthy 17-year lifespan.

In every U.K. household, Gavin & Stacey is a staple of British television. It began with a man from Billericay in Essex, Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne), and a young woman, Stacey West (Joanna Page), from Barry in Wales. They fall in love talking over the phone while working for the same company...

Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender Play Spy Games in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Black Bag’ Trailer
Image
Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett play dangerous spy games in the first trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s thriller Black Bag, which dropped on Tuesday.

Fassbender is renowned intelligence officer George Woodhouse, who must choose between loyalty to his marriage or his country after his wife Kathryn (Blanchett) is exposed as a possible suspect in a giant intelligence breach.

“Maybe this is all your greatest game, George,” Fassbender’s character is told at one point in the trailer, as he is tasked with identifying the leaker as part of the movie shot in London.

As George looks to complete that daring mission, Soderbergh’s latest movie appears to turn on the question of whether his intimate marriage to Kathryn allows the intelligence agents to successfully know about one another and what each is up to, if required.

“When you can lie about everything, when you can deny everything, how do you tell the truth about anything?...

David Koepp
Soderbergh has once again teamed up with screenwriter David Koepp, who also wrote the upcoming Jurassic World: Rebirth, for a film about an unconventional marriage. Focus Features has just released the trailer for the thriller.

Black Bag stars Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Naomie Harris, Tom Burke and Pierce Brosnan. Nice Girls Review: Feminist Subversion Meets Slapstick Chaos
Image
Nice Girls, directed by Noémie Saglio, aims to position itself within the gender-swapped buddy-cop genre, a cinematic playground with various degrees of success.

The film stars Alice Taglioni as the unkempt, chain-smoking Leo—a cop juggling grief, chaos, and complicated personal life—and Stéfi Celma as Mélanie, her disciplined yet earnest German partner. Together, they navigate a complicated murder investigation, tangential eco-politics, and an endless supply of errors that range from slapstick to sarcastic.

Nice Girls, with its Riviera backdrop, is more than its bright exteriors and postcard-perfect beaches; it is also a site of cultural disputes, gender relations, and political commentary—or, at least, it attempts to be. Saglio’s directing depends heavily on absurdity, but whether the film succeeds in being subversive or simply dumb is up for dispute—a debate that this review will gladly engage in.

Now available on Netflix, Nice Girls enters a crowded scene of action comedies,...
