Simon Spier keeps a huge secret from his family, his friends, and all of his classmates: he's gay. When that secret is threatened, Simon must face everyone and come to terms with his identity.
In Simon's bedroom, there is a copy of Becky Albertalli's (the author of "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda") other book, "The Upside of Unrequited."
Hey, are you into Abby?
Simon: Me? No. No. I mean, she's great. She's cute, but she's just not really my type. And not because she's black. I love black women. Not, like, y'know, I have a thing for black women. I, I just... I just I love all women.
When Simon checks his phone at dinner, it's dark outside, and yet the time reads 3:20.
At the end of the closing credits, on the right side of the screen, it reads "#gtfo". This is an internet initialism for "get the fuck out." It is, in effect, telling audience members to leave the theater.
