Trivia

Kristen Bell, Neil Patrick Harris, Matt Bomer, Tyler Oakley, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, screenwriter Martin Gero, Benj Pasek, Andrew Rannells, Joey Graceffa, Scott Hoying and Superfruit's Mitch Grassi were so moved by the film that they bought out theaters in their hometowns so it would reach as many people as possible. Jennifer Garner, Greg Berlanti and Berlanti's husband Robbie Rogers were so proud of being part of the film that they also did the same thing.

Quotes

Simon: Dear students of Creekwood High. As anyone with a half decent data plan already knows, a recent post on this very website declared that I was gay. The delivery left something to be desired, but the message is true. I am... gay. For a long time, I ...

Goofs

"Blue"'s e-mail address changes throughout the film. In some scenes, it's "Blugreen118" and in others, "Bluegreen118".

Crazy Credits

At the end of the closing credits, on the right side of the screen, it reads "#gtfo". This is an internet initialism for "get the fuck out." It is, in effect, telling audience members to leave the theater.

Alternate Versions

The home video release features two deleted scenes: In the first, Abby talks to Simon about her interest in Nick, but Simon concocts a story about Nick having cheated on his previous girlfriend. In the second, Nick takes Simon to a gay bar to help him come to terms with his identity where the two are eventually kicked out for being underage. When Simon returns home he's confronted by his parents for disappearing for so long.
