Simon Spier keeps a huge secret from his family, his friends and all of his classmates: he's gay. When that secret is threatened, Simon must face everyone and come to terms with his identity.
The words "hour to hour note to note" can be seen written on Simon's wall, which is a nod to the E-mail ("email@example.com") Simon used in the book to talk to Blue. It was changed in the film to "firstname.lastname@example.org."
Suraj, stop pretending that trumpet is your penis. It is a rental.
When Simon eats with his family, Simon's phone says that it's 3:20, yet when he goes outside to read Blue's email a moment later in the patio, it's pitch black dark.
At the end of the closing credits, on the right side of the screen, it reads "#gtfo". This is an internet initialism for "get the fuck out." It is, in effect, telling audience members to leave the theater.
The version of the film on Blu-ray sold at Target stores includes a bonus miniature replica of Simon's notebook, which features the full e-mails Simon and Blue send to one another in the film.
