| Fulfil the purpose
Important, relatable, anti-stereotype and all, but also cheesy, corny, and too bubbly. but you really can't make a film in this form to avoid those things, so this film is really for audiences who would enjoy this life-assuring kind of film. with that being said, i still have teary eyed at some scenes because i can relate to it to some extent but also combined with some cringeness attack because of the dialogue and all. could it better? i think it could, but that would kill the purpose of the film, so i'm glad that the film was made this way, but it's still not my thing.

Trivia

One of the stickers on Simon's bedroom wall is a picture of a banana. This is the cover art to the first Velvet Underground album, created by Andy Warhol (who was also that band's manager and producer when that album came out in 1967). Warhol was gay, making this an appropriate sticker for Simon's room.

Quotes

Simon: Dear students of Creekwood High. As anyone with a half decent data plan already knows, a recent post on this very website declared that I was gay. The delivery left something to be desired, but the message is true. I am... gay. For a long time, I ...

Goofs

When Simon eats with his family, Simon's phone says that it's 3:20, yet when he goes outside to read Blue's email a moment later in the patio, it's pitch black dark.

Crazy Credits

At the end of the closing credits, on the right side of the screen, it reads "#gtfo". This is an internet initialism for "get the fuck out." It is, in effect, telling audience members to leave the theater.

Alternate Versions

The home video release features two deleted scenes: In the first, Abby talks to Simon about her interest in Nick, but Simon concocts a story about Nick having cheated on his previous girlfriend. In the second, Nick takes Simon to a gay bar to help him come to terms with his identity where the two are eventually kicked out for being underage. When Simon returns home he's confronted by his parents for disappearing for so long.
