Young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.
Just like with the rest of the films based on the book series, this was filmed in Stockholm, Sweden as the location was a crucial part of the story and the production according to Fede Álvarez.

Although Claire Foy worked with a linguistics coach to perfect her Swedish accent. Her accent is a mix of Danish and German, and bares little to no resemblance to Swedish. The vast majority of her co-stars speaks with a convincing Swedish accent.
In Singapore; the theatrical release was edited in order to obtain an NC16 classification (after the uncut version was passed M18); the distributor chose to remove brief sexual images in three scenes (sight of two characters having sex on a mobile phone screen, a shot of full female nudity and some discreet sexual images in a nightclub). The film remains uncut in all other countries worldwide.
