Young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.
The color palette of the film is black (darkness), red (blood) and white (light and snow). In opposition to Claire Foy, who is black from head to toe, Sylvia Hoeks carry hair of an extremely light blonde, almost albino. The actress also faded up her eyebrows as much as possible.

Lisbeth is one of the world's best hackers. She would not hack the US computers in such a way as to allow them to so easily identify her location.
In Singapore; the theatrical release was edited in order to obtain an NC16 classification (after the uncut version was passed M18); the distributor chose to remove brief sexual images in three scenes (sight of two characters having sex on a mobile phone screen, a shot of full female nudity and some discreet sexual images in a nightclub). The film remains uncut in all other countries worldwide.
