In the Netflix limited series “Missing You,” Rosalind Eleazar of “Slow Horses” stars as a woman seeking answers about the murder of her father — and her missing fiancée. It’s based on the novel by Harlan Coben, but set in England instead of in New York City.
It’s the ninth Netflix series based on the mystery writer’s novels and several cast members, and some of the cast, Richard Armitage and James Nesbitt, starred in previous series based on his works.
Here’s who plays who in the series, which is now streaming on Netflix, and where you might have seen them before.

How do the makers of Bridgerton keep a fandom as dedicated as theirs guessing? How does the Netflix show surprise a core of fans who are so intimately familiar with Julia Quinn’s source books that they’re anticipating every blush and ball before it even gets to the screen?
One solution, as has happened in season three, is to play with the established order of things. Though Benedict Bridgerton’s romance follows on from that of his brother Anthony’s in Quinn’s book series, the TV show has (rightly!) vaulted over that to first show the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Their other answer? Invention. In addition to TV-only characters Madame Delacroix, Will and Alice Mondrich and Queen Charlotte herself, a new raft of invented-for-the-show characters appear in season three. Here they all are, along with info on the actors playing them, plus a couple...

Luther’s back. Being banged up at the end of Series 5 didn’t stop that growly genius from taking on a new case and a new villain in Bond-inspired Netflix movie The Fallen Sun. And, since most of his former colleagues were spectacularly killed in the line of duty, the man’s being joined by a fresh cast.
Dermot Crowley returns as John Luther’s former boss Dsu Martin Schenk, who’s joined by Cynthia Erivo as Luther’s replacement on the team, and far from his biggest fan. Going toe-to-toe with Idris Elba’s John will be Andy Serkis as surveillance tech billionaire David Robey, possibly the detective’s darkest foe yet.
And what of Ruth Wilson’s Alice, last seen taking a short drop off a tall tower? She’s not listed among the cast this time, but there’s no saying that wily brainbox won’t find...

One of the key distinctions between editing in film or television versus video games is needing to find the best scenes and moments without being able to totally adjust the performances after the fact. This is one of the advantages James Cameron has with the "Avatar" movies, which are essentially hyper-realistic animated films. As a live action TV show though, and not a wholly CGI experience, the editing process for "The Last of Us'' was certain to be extremely different from how the game was made.
Like any film or TV production, not everything filmed could make the final cut, but with its A-list cast and crew, the video game adaptation was sure to face some especially difficult trades in the editing room. The thoughtfulness and precision that goes into the show's cinematography on a frame-by-frame basis further underscores this point.

As an admirer of her work from Belle to Beyond the Lights to the “San Junipero” episode of Black Mirror, I look forward to eventually reviewing a new Gugu Mbatha-Raw television vehicle that doesn’t feel like a general waste of her incontestable charisma and dramatic depth.
It surely didn’t happen on Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, in which Mbatha-Raw was tremendous despite an offensively underwritten character. It didn’t happen with Disney+’s Loki, in which the underwriting was egregious, if not actually offensive. It didn’t happen with HBO Max’s The Girl Before, which at least offered Mbatha-Raw a substantive part, albeit one stuck in a padded and forgettable soapy thriller.

Exclusive: Lionsgate is finalizing a deal to acquire a minority stake in London- and Los Angeles-based management and production company 42, we can reveal.
Management-production powerhouse 3 Arts Entertainment, of which Lionsgate is a majority owner, has been a key driver in concocting the deal and will look to collaborate on TV and film projects with the fast-growing 42 and Lionsgate in a three-way venture. Lionsgate and 42 were unavailable for comment but we know the pact is almost done. We hear it is lucrative and well into eight figures. While the actual BAFTA film awards ceremony on Sunday may have been largely apolitical, the red carpet leading up to it was awash with political commentary.
“The Power of the Dog” star and BAFTA best actor nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, who attended the event with his wife Sophie Hunter, wore a badge depicting the Ukrainian flag.
Cumberbatch said the awards are “a celebration of an industry that’s about imagery, and images speaking as loud as if not louder sometimes than words. So it’s a small gesture,” the actor told BBC News.
“But away from this, what we all have to do is continue to put pressure on our politicians as far as the refugee crisis goes, continue to put pressure on the Putin regime, continue to help in any which way we can — whether that’s through donations or housing refugees, all of which I’m looking to do and have done.

Spoiler Alert: This piece contains spoilers for all episodes of “The Girl Before,” which arrived to HBO Max on February 10.
David Oyelowo isn’t eager to inhabit a minimalist home like his character from “The Girl Before.” “It would probably be fun for a weekend as a novelty, but this is not the place for me,” he says. “If Edward Monkford were my landlord, I think he would murder me.”
And murder was certainly on viewers’ minds during the four-episode HBO Max series, as Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Jane doggedly pursues answers about the death of her building’s former tenant, Emma (Jessica Plummer).
Before joining the cast, Oyelowo didn’t read the book “The Girl Before” is based on, written by creator and executive producer J.P. Delaney: “I didn’t want to know, because that’s part of the joy of it, trying to figure it out. Having all these twists and turns,...

This is the lesson that Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Jane and Jessica Plummer as Emma may come to learn in the new HBO Max thriller, ‘The Girl Before’. 'The Girl Before' - Strong Performances Making the Grade Gugu Mbatha-Raw, fresh off her strong performances in ‘Loki’ and ‘The Morning Show’, has proven herself to be a tremendously capable and outstanding leading actress in her work in ‘The Girl Before.’ Mbatha-Raw plays Jane, a woman suffering from the very difficult trauma of having lost her child to stillbirth. Jane is relatively stuck in life, and she finds an awakening when she visits a beautiful modern high-tech house being offered for rent. The house has a strange feeling to it,...

“Selma” star David Oyelowo has played spies, saints, and even a guy who drowns a dog in “Chaos Walking,” but you’ve never seen him in a role quite like Svengali-esque architect Edward in “The Girl Before,” which premieres on HBO Max on Feb. 10. It’s based on the 2016 novel of the same name by J.P. Delaney, who adapted it for television.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw stars as Jane, who’s trying recover from a tragic loss. She applies to live rent-free at One Fulgate House, an ultra-modern, minimalist house designed by Edward, who has some very strict rules for his tenants. Jane encounters his rarely-given approval, and he soon makes his romantic intentions towards her clear. He becomes her lover as well as her landlord, but when she learns the previous female tenant, Emma (Jessica Plummer) – who looked remarkably like her – died in the house, she wonders if she can really trust him.

Shooting on “Bass Reeves” won’t start for a few months, but David Oyelowo is already prepping to play the legendary U.S. marshal whose exploits are said to have been the inspiration for the Lone Ranger.
We caught a glimpse of the western hero in HBO’s “Watchmen” (as played by Jamal Akakpo), but Oyelowo and “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan are giving us a whole limited series about the Black lawman whose story is long overdue. Oyelowo is producing through his Yoruba Saxon production company, along with Sheridan and 101 Studios, as part of his overall deal with ViacomCBS – just one of the many deals and projects on the busy “Selma” star’s plate.
“Some of my dream projects are coming to fruition, so it’s a very, very nice moment,” the actor told TheWrap during a recent interview.

“When you watch this show, you’re probably thinking, ‘Gosh, this is a bit crazy.’” So says David Oyelowo of his character in HBO Max’s twisty psychological thriller “The Girl Before.”
In the four-episode series, Oyelowo stars as Edward Monkford, the brooding architect behind a one-of-a-kind ultra-minimalist home in London that comes with a daunting set of rules. Viewers follow two women, Jane (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and Emma (Jessica Plummer), during separate timelines in which they inhabit Edward’s house and subsequently enter relationships with the mysterious owner.
In exchange for affordable rent, the women are expected to live according to Edward’s stipulations: no pictures, no ornaments, no children, no books—the list goes on, to the tune of 200 rules.
Oyelowo’s Edward is unfazed by the home’s unique setup: “All buildings are designed to have an effect on people: castles to intimidate; churches to inspire,” he says in the second episode.

British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw has performed in nearly every genre of film since breaking out in the 2013 Amma Asante-directed feature, “Belle.” Since then, Mbatha-Raw has played a pop star, a mother, and even a member of the Time Variance Authority in the Disney+ series, “Loki.” Now, she’s starring in the HBO Max series “The Girl Before,” a dark, twisted murder mystery about a woman named Jane (Mbatha-Raw) who moves into One Folgate Street, a minimalist house where a woman (Jessica Plummer) had previously died.
The series was a jump for the actress, not just because she was coming off the time-travel weirdness of “Loki.” But it was an opportunity to take the reins as an associate producer on the limited series, collaborating on several of the day-to-day elements as well as playing a frustrated, sometimes scared, woman searching for answers. On top of that, the performers were all...

Much in the vein of “The Girl on the Train” or “The Woman in the Window,” HBO Max’s new limited series “The Girl Before” depicts the aftereffects of trauma taking place within the mind of a troubled woman. Also like those projects, it’s neither as acute as it thinks it is or as fun as viewers may want it to be. This British show — which is adapted by J. P. Delaney from his novel and which aired on BBC One overseas late last year — goes to extremes, but viewers may be forgiven for not following it to its conclusion.
Here, Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays Jane, who is increasingly isolated from the world as she can’t stop replaying a violent attack she suffered. In the present day, Jane is living in a strange, modernist home — one whose residents must agree to a set of strict conditions set by the...
