  • Not your ordinary short film, this is a film trailer and probably on the site because Jean-Luc Godard directed it.

The creator of "Breathless" and "The Little Soldier" presents his then upcoming attraction, the controversial project "Week End", a treaty on the collapse of a bourgeois society. The trailer is one of the best of its kind I've ever seen: enigmatic, intriguing and right on the exact spot where trailers must be in order to create a curiosity and a desperate urgency for you to run and watch the film. The images presented create that longing, that need, quite unlike what today's trailers tend to do by revealing the whole movie in those 2 minutes or so. Godard feeds us with the imagination from the images given, no dialogues neither captions to explain what the movie is about. And that's pure talent that won't be taught in marketing schools. Has to be seen and felt. I can count with my hands how many Hollywood trailers attempted to do that and accomplished the same results.

However, my experience with "Week End" wasn't the same. Of course, I've seen the movie ages ago and long before this short, it was a weary and long watch and I almost hated the thing. But nevermind this, the film is good and important though not so much of an easy watch. So, if you're about to see that classic, I suggest you to take a look at this trailer first, just to put you in the mood and see how crafty Mr. Godard is. 8/10
