  • I saw this movie tonight, a Thursday, in Northwest Indiana, and my wife and I were the only ones in the theater. I have to say that it could have come off as an average slapstick Mexican comedy, but Omar Chaparro and Martha Higareda(looking too thin I'm afraid)saved this one. The two seem to have good chemistry, the comedy scenes and jokes seem to work well, and the film has a solid plot. I have heard that this film is a copy of a German film, and I guess if I had seen that one first, I would have rated this film lower. But, I've only seen this one, so what do I care, it made me laugh. On a side note, check out Martha in the comedy/drama "7 Días"(a very unknown, but very good film), and Omar in the comedy "Suave Patria".
  • I just watched the movie and I spent a good time at it. It's a remake of the German film "Fack ju Göhte" just tropicalized for the Mexican environment -not without some inconsistencies by the way. The film is mostly fun but let's say that I have never known of a school like this in Mexico. It is not just the kind of circumstances depicted in the movie, I mean the school itself -don't try to find one like that in Mexico. Nevertheless this factors do not affect too much the general smiles and laughs that it pretends to deliver. I cannot speak for the international audience that could see this film but from the point of view of the mexicans, even though it is plagued of silly jokes and fault language and situations, it is a film that you can enjoy if you are in the mood. Definitively not the most funny picture I've seen but it worth the ticket. Have fun.
  • The story might be forgettable, the plot and the characters might not be interesting, but it is fun-time. It is that light comedy that relies on grotesque, constant swearing and sexual humor (also slapstick); but it manages well in that route. The movie has its highlights and its flaws, so:

The tone and environment of the film create this sensation of absurdity. Teachers that allow students to bully them literally, and students that in other terms succumb to terrorism; the less than professional attitude of anyone involved with the school and the cheerful secondary characters also make the movie bearable. The humor of the movie establishes on swearing, grotesque and sexual situations, and semi-constant slapstick; which works fine with the movie's essence. The course words and bothering phrases provide morbid and healthy laughs. It might not be quality humor, but functional humor at some points.

The characters though thinly written are very likable: The dumb and senseless students that give meaning to the also senseless plot and the uninterested and unprofessional teachers that fall upon the student's dictatorship. Now, our two leads: the street punk and the shy wannabe-someone-to-change-the-world sweet and dumb girl. These two characters allow you to like the movie, despite certain flaws.

So, the very same strengths that the movie has, are also its weaknesses. The swearing sometimes is taken to the point you get bored of the repetitive and insulting dialogue. The slapstick is also in some moments of the movie too generic and basically that, non-funny slapstick. The movie also focuses heavily on marketing and selling the "pretty faces", which gives more importance to the actors involved rather than the characters themselves. Finally, the sexual humor provides funny moments, but is also taken to the limit, and ends up feeling unnecessary.

FINAL CONSENSUS: Though generic and clichéd, also in a light way exclusive for Mexicans to understand, the movie has some moments.

Looks like I'm the lone wolf so far on this site as other reviewers liked this movie. However, I was hard pressed to find any laughs in this raunchy and farcical Mexican comedy, which, as others have noted, is filled with slapstick humor as well. Often, I just found the humor to be cringe worthy, and as it progressed I kept checking how much time was left before it was finally going to end.

Omar Chaparro stars here as an ex-con, just released from prison after serving a 13 month sentence for bank robbery. However, he soon will discover a local school has built a gymnasium over where his stripper friend had hid his money (must be speedy construction workers). So naturally, he'll soon be hired as a substitute teacher at the school, where he'll become a "role model" for the wild and delinquent students there during the day, while he drills through the gym floor at night to try and get to his money.

All in all, as is so often the case, just trying to be shocking and raunchy doesn't necessarily equal funny, and I could only find a couple of chuckles here in this film.
  • this movies is just a cheap ripoff of a German movie trying to copy instead of being inspire by it, and just putting curse words on it just to try to make it funny. besides is just a bunch of movie clichés that have been done way better. save yourself some time. and go watch something better unless you are the type of guy that likes Adam sasler movies cause this one is just like that
  • 1) kids in other countries cuss, a poster said this should be rated R - yet there is no over sex, nudity, killing, blowing thing up.

    2) this is a great rom-com. I'm surprised we didn't come up with it first. But, this works because we (and our Victorian era rating system) didnt come up with it. The potty language works in all the right places.

    3) Now that's an update to a Shakespeare play, that would have made ole BillyBob proud.

    4) Redemption looks good on a few, great on others & sexy as heck on a couple.

    5) Watch, enjoy, laugh & repeat all over again.

    6) I've watched it 3 times now - and just noticed that the dog Miss Lucy, & her sister have, is the same type of dog (grey) used in the 1992 movie Annie (brown) - watch the movie & see why.

    Meh
I usually have the 'opportunity' to see trailers on theaters almost every month and also catch tons of advertisement of the same matter even on Youtube adds. We're told to support national arts and cinema overall, but watching the kind of crap they have been producing, it's almost painful to bear.

This movie entertains, but sometimes it turns into some cringy moments where you can't find a place to hide, so you can avoid such shame. It's not different from other new mexican films like 'How to be a Latinlover', '3 Friends (also a remake)', or 'Treintona, Soltera y Fantástica': all just a bunch of insignificant movies, that you'd watch in a family night, just to pass the time, but nothing too serious. Besides, the plot is somehow unreal and absurd. I've never seen a high school where you can throw feces to your professors, or that kind of stuff. The humor was silly but not extremely ridiculous, I must admit.

The movie is not too bad to deserve a review, it's just that there's a wide distribution of these irrelevant and pathetic films in Mexico, instead of supporting the art, the cinema which is really worth it, and no one cares about.
  • Although this movie is a remake of a German film, I give this a 100%. We should be proud of this film, this film is entertaining and gives a good message to the youth now a days. I was not disappointed, it over passed my expectations. This is a perfect family movie, just watch out with the language, it's a bit explicit. The acting on this film was excellent, and don't get me wrong the cast was great!!! I've seen their movies before and have seen their acting, not disappointed. If you really put your mind into the film you will notice it will give you mixed emotions. I hope they make more movies like this in the future, I wouldn't mind watching them at all, by the way I saw this movie twice and I plan to go watch it again ha ha so please consider this film!!!!

For a few years now in Mexico we have seen this phenomenon that occurred after the golden age: repeating movies or making poorly made copies of American or European cinema classics.

The bad thing is that they make them look like good movies or that they are worthy of an Oscar, when in truth they are not and I personally don't think this one is as good as many others, but it still has minimal redeemable details.

It is the typical American movie of a school converted into a Mexican one, where we see scenes of school problems taken to the extreme, where a former criminal tries to be a teacher and a teacher tries to have something with him.

The most criticizable thing is that it is very monotonous and repetitive, that is to say, the nerdy teacher's joke every 10 seconds, the scolding teacher's jokes every 20 seconds and the forced comedy scenes for adults every so often, something that has always happened. In national cinema.

It doesn't seem very fun at certain moments, but some shots are good and I think the photograph is not as bad as it seems to be, it just needs maybe better focus or at least not always repeating the same shots of the area where it was recorded.

The last detail that bothers me a little is that they always repeat the same actors to star in these movies and that in my opinion is a waste, since there are many actors who can do a better job.

I don't like movies with drama, but this movie has a very good mix of comedy and drama, a very honest movie. The movie is funny from the beginning, but during the climax it turn a little dramatic and sentimental, like a love story. It also teaches some fundamental ideas, and helps other under stand that you need yo make a future and don't and in a bad situation, that other people have a second chance to make a change in there life. The movie helps you to understand that you can change with the help of others.

The movie is very good for schools to use for learning material and in the same time laugh a little.
  • Watch and enjoy, it's fun. Not a critically acclaimed movie, its just fun.

Mexican films are severely underrated, and they have proved to be quite good at achieving what they want.

This of course is a remake and it is very well done, it is funny, it is heartfelt, well paced and you can see the effort that the people behind the film put into making it, and you can tell that Martha Higareda and Omar Chaparro have really good chemistry on screen.

Romantic Comedies can be "by the numbers" when it comes to plots, twist and the cathartic final scene. But the important thing is not what we know about them or how they will end, what makes a Romantic Comedy a good movie is not how they end but how do they get there, and this movie makes it seem effortless.

    Highly, highly recommended.

High School college movies and the like are usually clichés and boring, however, I have a crush on the faculty version, here we have a lot of exaggerations, satires, the clichés remain, bullying too, but I found the teacher relationship very cute, and even cute rebel vs rebel students, young people need affection, cuddly...
