~At the time of writing this the OVA has yet to air so this is only about episodes 1-12~ My very first impression after finishing episode 1 was, "very typical shounen, nothing special show". To be completely honest, if this show wasn't airing on "Toonami" I probably wouldn't have ever watched it/continued watching it. I'm glad to say that after episode 5/6 or so it began peeking my interest a bit more, enough that I actually wanted to watch more of it. Now the story is very original and a bit down right confusing during the show. The world discovered a new dimension, they named it "dimension W". They found a way to harness the energy from the dimension & turn it into a limitless energy supply for the entire world. Coils are what harnesses this power, the government distributes these. The main character hunts down illegal coils for money & goods. Now whats original about it? Everything now runs on this limitless energy, the possibilities are literally endless to what can be done. All the cities & everything have advanced so far, flying vehicles, robots, all types of stuff. Yet it still feels like not THAT far off into the future. The animation is pretty good, the artwork is really nice & all the character designs are pretty good looking. The music matched fine, nothing felt off or out of place. The op song is one of the most catchy/get me hyped songs I've ever heard from any anime, definitely one i'll remember. The English dub was done pretty well, I liked just about every character especially the two main ones. If your looking for something shounen, with your cool fights, explosions, "badass" main character then this is something you'll probably like. Also if your interested in the idea's of everything existing at the same time & limitless possibilities you'll probably enjoy this a bit too. As average as I found this show I have to say its original in its ideals & theories, that's the only reason I give it a 7.5/10

4/5 Why? Very typical shounen, action, explosions, "cool, dark" main character, etc. The animation was pretty good. Music matched fine, OP song was awesome an instant favorite. The story is really the only thing that saves this show, its very original (& has a lot of potential) in its concepts about possibilities, potential, energy, etc. If it sounds interesting, give it a watch you may enjoy it more than I.
  • This anime is really fun and cool, and if you like your anime with some sci-fi, a mysterious hero and some very silly moments and humor, "Dimension W" is for you.

We have the typical hero that has a secret and, even if he doesn't want to, has to join forces with another character. In this case, our hero is a 'collector', a person that tries to recover illegal components that use energy from the 'dimension W', a dimension that has helped humanity to get an endless supply of energy. He is old style and doesn't like the use of the components that let humanity tap into the dimension W. Not very deep sci-fi, that's true. At the very beginning of the anime he gets involved with a robot, the creation of the man that found the dimension W and the robot (with the typical character and looks of a young girl, something too typical in some kind of Japanese anime) decides to stay with him.

From that moment one we get our hero, Kyoma, getting his missions and the robot Mira helping him. The model is one mission per episode. Around the half of the series we get into the big arc of the show that will last till the end of the anime.

The first part is lots of fun, with cool characters, great rhythm and funny plots, with some silly humor thrown into it. The second part is darker, the plot gets a little bit messy and is more into 'big fights' but it is still really interesting and fun. Not very demanding, but always fun.

The animation is really cool, even if there are a couple of moments where the quality is not great. It does a great job in making the viewer feel involved in this world and characters, with a very stylized look and a nice use of color. Perfect for this type of series. And the music is just plain great.

P.S.: I haven't watched the OVA, so this review is just for the anime series.
  • Dimension W is a show that I think anyone can watch with something to talk about towards the end. Whether it's the world building, storytelling, characterization, or technical art/music/soundtrack style, the show is a lot of fun. It lives up to what it tries to do, despite cutting content from the original manga. As most series in modern years, it's not very original and still lends a lot of ideas from other sci-fi works. However, Dimension W still embraces the sci-fi genre and shows that it can be unique in its own way.
  • If you want to see Robot girl with emotions this is for you guys, pretty interesting episodes.

    9/10
    Good
I liked the anime but I didn't like the main character. He everytime calls the robot girl 'piece of junk'.
  • Start to finish "Dimension W" seems to be a mix of classic tropes/cliches/archetypes, and at first it seemed like the formula might result in something interesting, however it quickly starts to break down into predictable cheese.

For example the male protagonist is the classic ex-solider with a checkered past, and some of his quirks seemed interesting but he turned out to a paper doll.

Another example is the military 2 story combat robot they encounter later in the story that runs around like a broken Dalek crying "Eliminate... Eliminate" over and over.

It's not the best anime I've seen, but not the worst either, it's nothing but filler during the delayed English Dubs of 2020.

    Pros:
    • Fast gas guzzling cars.
    • English Dubbing.
    • Decent music.
    • Always a Fan of AI's having sentience debate.
    • It has an ending and an OVA.

    Cons:
    • Ecchi related incidents with the female protagonist and some of the imagery was just ridiculous.
    • Some very poor decision making by people in the show.
    • High cheese factor.
    • "Deus Ex Machina" factor was ridiculous.
    • Unneeded (for the story) domestic violence against several of the female characters. I'm not one usually bothered by anything for the cause of the story but it never seemed to serve a purpose.
    • Inconsistent animation at times.
