Netflix Cannot Miss the Rare Golden Opportunity ‘Blood of Zeus’ Season 3 Is Offering
Image
With Blood of Zeus Season 3 dropping on May 8, Netflix stands at a crucial crossroads. Slowly but surely, the hegemonic streaming platform is establishing itself as the authority of animated series. With many successful titles under its belt, mostly adapted video games, Netflix has the perfect opportunity with an original series like Blood of Zeus.

Over the last couple of years, the streaming giant has leaned heavily into original animation, both Western and anime-inspired. We have seen hits like Castlevania and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which proved their ability to break into otaku culture and win hearts.

Even the recent adaptation of Devil May Cry was quite impressive, but Blood of Zeus carries something different. It’s mythological, brutal, beautifully animated, and wholly credited to Netflix.

The finale of Blood of Zeus will be thunderous

This final season isn’t just a closing arc for Heron and Seraphim’s story. It’s a...

John Cena and Eric André to Star in Matt Spicer Comedy Film Little Brother
Image
You can’t say no to family, right?

Ingrid Goes West director Matt Spicer is set to helm the upcoming comedy Little Brother, starring John Cena and Eric André.

Written by The D-Train filmmakers Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, the story revolves around a famous real estate agent (Cena) whose carefully curated world is upended when his eccentric “little brother” (André) unexpectedly reappears in his life.

Spicer is known for directing and writing Ingrid Goes West, the 2017 dark comedy starring Aubrey Plaza in a dramatic role. Cena is also known for his professional wrestling background and recent appearances in WWE’s Wrestlemania and Raw on Netflix. Meanwhile, multihyphenate André is best known for his eponymous The Eric Andre Show, and has also been featured in Netflix’s Disenchantment and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Little Brother is produced by David Bernad...

Ingrid Goes West helmer Matt Spicer to direct John Cena and Eric André in the unexpected reunion comedy Little Brother
Image
John Cena and Eric André are having a family reunion of sorts! It’s true! Ingrid Goes West director Matt Spicer is getting behind the camera for Little Brother, an upcoming comedy written by Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, with John Cena and Eric André set to star. The project, announced last year, focuses on a famous real estate agent whose carefully curated world is upended when his eccentric “little brother” unexpectedly reappears.

While Spicer’s directed episodes of shows like On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Dollface, Angelyne, and American Horror Stories, Little Brother is his latest feature since 2017’s Ingrid Goes West. In the film about a parasocial relationship taken too far, a woman (Aubrey Plaza) moves to LA after leaving a psychiatric ward to stalk an Instagram star. However, her dark plans turn darker after everything spirals out of control. In addition to Plaza, Ingrid Goes...

Eric André Says He Declined the Role That Led to Kieran Culkin’s Oscar Win
Eric André
Eric André said he was originally offered the role of Benji Kaplan in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, the part that would later earn Kieran Culkin the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Appearing on Andrew Santino’s Whiskey Ginger podcast, André said Eisenberg approached him about the project two years ago. After reading the script, André chose not to take the role. “That seems really miserable and not in my lane,” he said, recalling his first reaction. “To go to Poland for six weeks and shoot a movie where we’re just babbling about the Holocaust seems like a bummer.”

André said he appreciated the offer but did not expect the film to become part of the awards conversation. “I was like, ‘Appreciate the offer. I’m sure it’s gonna be great. I don’t think that’s what I’m looking for right now.’ The motherfucker...

Eric André Reveals He Turned Down Kieran Culkin’s Role In ‘A Real Pain’: “Seems Like A Bummer”
Image
A Real Pain (point) for Eric André is missing out on the eventually Oscar-winning role taken on by Kieran Culkin in Jesse Eisenberg’s moving drama, about two cousins journeying through Poland while learning about their family roots and the Holocaust.

The comedic heavyweight revealed that the writer-director offered him the supporting part two years ago, reflecting ruefully on passing up the opportunity as it seemed “like a bummer” at the time.

“Do you wanna know a f—ing doozy?” he began, teeing up the reveal to fellow comic Andrew Santino on his Whiskey Ginger podcast. “Two years ago Jesse Eisenberg calls me, offered me the role that Kieran Culkin got the Oscar for. I was like, that seems really miserable and not in my lane. I read the script, I was like, to go to Poland for six weeks and shoot a movie where we’re just babbling about...

Netflix 'Devil May Cry' Anime Trailer Teases Nu Metal Video Game Adaptation
Image
Netflix's next new video game anime is adding a hint of '00s metal edginess to the mix, as the newest trailer for Devil May Cry included the one Papa Roach song that even your grandma knows. Netflix has already found astounding success adapting popular video games into animated shows, with Castlevania and Arcane being two of the most celebrated video game adaptations of all time. Devil May Cry is pushing the streamer into a new genre, and that genre is nu metal.

The latest trailer for Netflix's Devil May Cry anime has Dante saying "I work better with music," before setting the trailer to one of the most iconic '00s metal songs. Papa Roach's "Last Resort" scores the demon-slaying trailer that highlights Devil May Cry's gorgeous-looking action. The anime is set to release on Netflix on April 3, 2026, and will run for 8 episodes in its first season.

The creator and star of Bad Sisters and Catastrophe — along with her production company, Merman — has signed a two-year, first-look deal with HBO. The first project under the deal is a comedy series that Horgan will write, executive produce and star in; HBO has given the untitled show a straight-to-series order.

“We’re thrilled to be reunited with Sharon. Her willingness to offer up her own experiences through the characters she creates makes us all feel a little less lonely, that is what sets her comedy apart so brilliantly,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vp comedy programming at HBO and Max. “She also has such a sharp eye for material and a strong desire to shepherd other people’s stories, we’re looking forward to the new talent she will bring into the fold.”

Ghosts Season 4 Finally Casts Alexander Hamilton In The Series As Isaac's Longstanding Rival
Image
CBS’ hit comedy Ghosts is finally introducing one of its most anticipated characters in season 4. The series, which debuted in 2021, follows Samantha (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) as they navigate life in their haunted bed and breakfast, which is packed with ghosts from bygone eras. Among these spirits is Revolutionary War captain Isaac Higgintoot (Brandon Scott Jones), whose longstanding grudge against Founding Father Alexander Hamilton has been a recurring bit. Currently, CBS is in the middle of airing Ghosts season 4.

According to TVLine, Nat Faxon has been cast as Alexander Hamilton and will guest-star in an episode airing in early 2025. Known for his roles in shows like Maya Rudolph's Loot, The Conners on ABC, and Disenchantment as the voice of Elfo, Faxon brings comedic pedigree to the role of Isaac’s infamous rival. Hamilton has been a frequent topic of Isaac’s scorn throughout the series, with countless jabs at his character and accomplishments.

John Cena and Eric Andre are ready to bro out.

Netflix is in early development on a comedy feature, “Little Brother,” with Cena and Andre set to star.

The film follows a famous real estate agent whose carefully curated world is upended when his eccentric “little brother” unexpectedly reappears.

Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel serve as the film’s writers, while David Bernad and Ruben Fleischer are producing.

‘Futurama’s Original Cast Was Almost Identical to ‘The Simpsons’
Image
Matt Groening’s second most beloved animated comedy was nearly a lookalike of the Og — and he had the nerve to call Seth MacFarlane a plagiarist.

Ever since Groening emerged as the greatest animation mogul of his generation, audiences have always been able to tell just by looking at any animated comedy whether or not he was the show’s creator. From The Simpsons to Futurama to Disenchantment, Groening has always had a hard-on for drawing characters with underdeveloped chins, bulging, overlapping eyes and, if they’re a slightly lazy leading man, a perfectly round paunch of a belly. Like most great artists, Groening has a distinct style, but also like other legends, he needs to be very careful that he doesn’t repeat himself, lest some Simpsons fan should suddenly think that one of Homer’s various long-lost relatives is now a 31st century delivery boy while flipping through the channels.

What We Do In The Shadows Cast & Character Guide
Image
The What We Do in the Shadows cast features a whos-who of seasoned comedy veterans, exciting up-and-coming talent, and scene-stealing supporting players as its vampiric characters. Based on the movie of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows is a mockumentary series about the mundane everyday lives of a group of vampires living in New York. The premise of a vampire-infested mockumentary might not have sustained a sketch in the hands of lesser creators, but Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, and co. have managed to make an acclaimed feature film and an equally acclaimed TV show out of that concept.

By introducing different kinds of vampires and entirely new supernatural species, the TV version of What We Do in the Shadows has expanded the world of the movie. The limited cast of the film has been replaced with a sprawling ensemble, played by both promising up-and-comers and prolific comedians.

Futurama Season 12 May Have Retconned A Big Professor Farnsworth Story With Show-Changing Twist
Image
Futurama season 12, episode 10, "Otherwise," solidly introduced the concept of a multiverse within the sitcom's canon, and by doing so, the show is likely to have retconned a classic installment from 24 years ago. "Otherwise" is easily the most high-concept of all the Futurama season 12 episodes, but the show had teased the multiverse reveal several times before the big reveal in the finale. As well as the shocking confirmation that Futurama is canonically connected to Disenchantment (and probably also to The Simpsons), the show also provides evidence that even certain Futurama episodes aren't set within the main universe.

Futurama season 12's ending sends ripples up and down the show's timeline, although only time will tell just how severe the impact is. While the peak into the show's multiverse confirms the status of certain classic episodes now established as taking place in another reality, the setting of some of Futurama's best episodes remains unclear.

How Futurama Connects To The Simpsons & Disenchantment
Image
Futurama is just one of Matt Groening's hit animated shows, and here is how the sci-fi sitcom connects to the other two, those being The Simpsons and Disenchantment. The Simpsons is one of the most iconic TV shows of all time, Futurama has been praised as one of the best sci-fi comedies ever, and Disenchantment is Groening's most recent animated series, making them an interesting trilogy. However, the most interesting part is that all three shows are connected through Futurama, and here's how.

While The Simpsons has been running seemingly forever, the same can't be said for Futurama and Disenchantment, both of which have had much shorter and more troubled runs. Futurama has been canceled multiple times, with it being ended by Fox and Comedy Central before Hulu brought it back to life for an eleventh season. Meanwhile, Disenchantment ended after Netflix released season 5, with the show currently being over.

Futurama Season 12's Disenchantment Easter Egg Explained
Image
The Futurama season 12 finale features a major Easter egg that references the Netflix series Disenchantment, and the connection between the two shows could have universe-altering implications. Matt Groening's three major TV shows, The Simpsons, Futurama, and Disenchantment, constantly reference each other despite the differing time periods, stories, and tones. While this is most commonly seen with Futurama and The Simpsons, Disenchantment has also had some tie-ins with the aforementioned shows, although Disenchantment's appearance in the Futurama season 12 finale is by far the show's biggest connection yet.

Futurama season 12, episode 10, "Otherwise" wraps up the second season of Hulu's Futurama revival, with it finally delving into a major sci-fi concept that has been teased for decades now: the multiverse. Although the multiverse has made appearances in previous Futurama episodes, "Otherwise" is the first one to fully explore it, with it following the Planet Express crew as they interact with a multiversal sea.

Futurama's New Twist Finally Provides The Perfect Explanation For Matt Groening's Major The Simpsons Mystery
Image
The Futurama season 12 finale just featured a massive twist, with this reveal finally providing the perfect explanation for Matt Groening's major The Simpsons mystery. Although each of Matt Groening's shows seem to be disconnected from each other, there have been hints that The Simpsons, Futurama, and Disenchantment all take place within the same universe. However, the very shows that have implied this have also featured jokes that directly deconfirm it, with the continuity of these shows being confusing until Futurama was able to provide the perfect answer in season 12.

Futurama season 12, episode 10, "Otherwise" finally wraps up the second of Hulu's Futurama revival seasons, with it seeing the destruction of one of the most iconic pieces of the show's iconography: the Planet Express ship. After destroying the ship, Fry, Leela, Bender, and the rest of the Futurama cast have to bury it at sea, with the ship graveyard being a massive multiversal ocean.

Futurama's Season 12 Finale Debunks A Popular Fan Theory After Disenchantment's Ending
Image
The following contains spoilers for Futurama season 12 episode 10, "Otherwise," now streaming on HuluFuturama's latest reference to Disenchantment quietly debunks a popular fan theory about the two shows. Both created by Matt Groening, Futurama and Disenchantment share a goofy tone but are set in radically different worlds where sci-fi and magic are common place. Futurama season 12 has been expanding the scope of the series. Episodes have revealed more about the backstories of its characters while bringing back supporting characters from early seasons of Futurama.

The season finale, "Otherwise," even expands the sci-fi scope of the universe by formally introducing the multiverse and sending the show's main characters directly through it. Along the way, the episode is able to tease potential new timelines they could visit while also referencing previous segments from Futurama's non-canon anthology episodes. However, one of these minor moments quietly disproves a fan theory that overtly connected the...

10 Funniest Comics from The Simpsons Creator's 'Life in Hell'
Image
Life in Hell was Matt Groening's comic strip precursor to The Simpsons, which is where he developed the sense of humor that would make his animated television' series iconic. Groening's Life in Hell comic ran for 35 years, providing the Futurama and Disenchanted creator a solo creative outlet, as an alternative to the highly collaborative work of producing an animated show. Life in Hell was a cult hit, in which many of the themes and ideas that later appeared in The Simpsons and Matt Groening's other shows were sharpened in comic form.

Life in Hell was Matt Groening's first big success, released a decade before he became famous for The Simpsons, and long before Futurama and Disenchantment. In his early-career cult comic, a collection of odd characters mocked pop culture, relationships, politics, and anything else that ground Groening's gears on a given day.

Running weekly for 35 years, Life in Hell had its own success,...

The Weirdest Books Based On Film And Television Franchises
Image
The literature world has often helped to expand film and television universes, allowing viewers to experience their favorite environments in a different medium. There have been countless fiction and non-fiction books about some of the most beloved properties, such as Disenchantment and Back To The Future, which recreate the magic of these films and shows at home. Some books based on popular culture can be surprisingly weird, however, with Warner Bros. recently announcing a Wizard Of Oz cookbook. This has prompted readers to share other bizarre literature interpretations of movies and television programs.

The random nature of these books has caught many readers by surprise, going in decidedly different directions than what others would traditionally expect from the source material. They are far from the most obvious use of the TV Shows and movies they are based on, either adapting formats that don't appear a natural fit for the brand like cookbooks or picture books,...

Netflix’s Head of Animated Series on the Streamer’s Strategy to “Win the Living Room” in 2023 and Beyond
Image
When Netflix released its first-ever Engagement Report — a revealing look into what (and how much) people are watching within the streamer’s film and TV catalog — live-action adult and young adult series like Ginny and Georgia, The Night Agent and Fubar were among those that topped nearly a billion hours watched.

But between January and June 2023, seasons of animated originals Sonic Prime, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, My Dad the Bounty Hunter and The Creature Cases also ranked among the 500 most-viewed series (out of 18,000), as did acquisitions like Paw Patrol, CoComelon, Pj Masks and Peppa Pig.

And while much of the streamer’s most popular animated content came from its kids and family programming, the report reveals new and previously released seasons of adult animation and anime entries like Castlevania, Love, Death & Robots, Bee and Puppycat, Disenchantment, Big Mouth, and Skull Island were among the top 22 percent of watched titles.

The Simpsons: How "Rosebud" Could Lead to a Mr. Burns Appearance in Another Futurama Crossover
Image
Crossovers between television series can create memorable moments and provide additional writing material and future storylines. The shared universe established in "Simpsorama" opens up the possibility for another crossover between The Simpsons and Futurama. Mr. Burns would be a perfect character to bring into Futurama's world, as he shares similar qualities with the villainous Mom, and their meeting would create excitement and entertainment.

As a plot device, crossovers are a time-honored tradition among television series. Whether audiences appreciate these chanced rendezvous is another matter, but two things are certain: several notable encounters exist, and because of them, viewers have witnessed some memorable moments. It's hard to forget such iconic occasions as when the Jetsons met the Flintstones or Adam West's Batman worked with Bruce Lee's Kato from The Green Hornet. What makes meetups like these excellent (regardless of their reception) is that they create a window of opportunity.

The Simpsons Movie Sequel Rumors Are Heating Back Up

Rumors of The Simpsons Movie 2 are heating up after the latest move from 20th Century Fox.

Via the prominent industry insider, The InSneider, 20th Century Fox's greenlighting of James L. Brooks' upcoming movie Ella McKay may be part of a deal that would see Brooks return for a sequel to The Simpsons Movie. Brooks created The Simpsons alongside Matt Groening and both were part of the screenplay team that penned its blockbuster movie adaptation in 2007. It's speculated that following Ella McKay, Brooks will reunite The Simpsons Movie's writing team, which included himself, Groening, Al Jean, Mike Scully, Richard Sakai, and others.

How The Simpsons, Futurama and Disenchantment Work as a Trilogy

It's worth noting that Brooks is an Oscar Award-winning writer, producer, and director, as seen in Terms of Endearment, and naturally the multi-award-winning The Simpsons. Furthermore, the cast of Ella McKay is a star-studded one, with Emma Mackey (Barbie) as lead,...

The Canceled Netflix Series Fans Desperately Tried To Save
Image
In a world replete with quick-spreading disinformation and the subsequent, dangerous proliferation of kooky conspiracy theories, the 2021 animated series "Inside Job" — created by Shion Takeuchi (a writer on "Gravity Falls" and "Disenchantment") — was perfectly timed. "Inside Job" posited that every single conspiracy theory you've ever heard — whether it be Reptilians, JFK, the Mandela effect, the flat Earth, or the faked moon landing — were all 100 percent real. Clones were out there, severed heads were being kept alive in labs, and aliens regularly visited Earth. Just like in "The X-Files," ordinary citizens weren't allowed access to this knowledge.

Earth's conspiracies were overseen by a mysterious underground organization called Cognito, Inc., one of six major shadow governments secretly in charge of the world. The other five were the Catholic Church, the Illuminati, Atlantis, the Reptoids, and the Juggalos (tee hee). The central joke of "Inside Job" was that Cognito, Inc. was staffed by flawed,...

The First Draft Of Futurama: Bender's Game Was Even Less Down To Earth
Image
The plot of the 2008 "Futurama" movie "Bender's Game" is massively complicated. When the alcoholic robot Bender (John Dimaggio) tries playing "Dungeons & Dragons" for the first time, his imagination gets a little carried away and he, like Don Quixote, begins to believe that he is actually a knight errant named Titanius Anglesmith. In a fit of fantasy, Bender scoops fistfuls of dark matter into his abdominal cavity. In the world of "Futurama," dark matter is actually a solid substance pooped out by an alien species called Nibblonians, of which Nibbler (Frank Welker), Leela's (Katey Sagal) pet, is a notable leader. Dark matter is used as starship fuel.

The conversion of dark matter into starship fuel was a process discovered by the Professor (Billy West) many years before, and the process produced a pair of (essentially) magical crystals. The Professor has one of said crystals among his possessions. When the two crystals are brought together,...

‘Shadow & Bone,’ ‘Glamorous,’ ‘Agent Elvis’ Among 5 Shows Canceled at Netflix
Image
“Shadow and Bone” and “Glamorous,” along with adult animated series “Agent Elvis,” “Farzaar,” and “Captain Fall” will not be returning for new seasons at Netflix, Variety has confirmed.

The announcement comes as Hollywood streamers and broadcasters continue to assess the impact left by the work stoppages due to the months-long WGA and SAG-Aftra strikes. Sources say Netflix’s decision to cancel stemmed from various reasons including performance and impact from the strike — as the industry evaluates production schedules, scheduling shifts, etc.

As Netflix has said about previous cancellations, the streamer continues to look at viewing versus cost as it evaluates shows. In the case of series like “Agent Elvis,” “Glamorous,” “Farzaar,” and “Captain Fall,” each show only ran for one season before its cancellation. While “Shadow and Bone” received a cancellation after running its second season, which arrived on the streamer in March.

Based on the Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo’s,...

‘Shadow And Bone’, ‘Glamorous’ & ‘Agent Elvis’ Among 5 Series Canceled By Netflix Amid Strike Impact
Image
Exclusive: Netflix will not be going forward with more seasons of live-action series Shadow and Bone and Glamorous and adult animated comedies Agent Elvis, Farzar and Captain Fall.

The decision was made a week after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike and a month and a half after the end of the WGA work stoppage as networks and platforms continue to evaluate the impact from the strike-related seven-month production shutdown.

While there had been a slew of series cancellations and un-renewals by linear networks and streamers during and immediately after the strikes, Netflix had largely refrained from making cancellation decisions during the past 6½ months while announcing a number of renewals, including One Piece (S2), Ginny & Georgia (S3 and S4); The Lincoln Lawyer (S3), Xo, Kitty (S2), Heartstopper (S2 and S3), The Night Agent (S2 picked up on the eve of the WGA strike), The Diplomat (S2), Fubar (S2), Sweet Magnolias...

‘Suits’ Sets Streaming Chart Record for Most Weeks at No. 1
Image
The summer of Suits continued past Labor Day, as the legal drama set a streaming chart record for most weeks as the No. 1 overall title.

The former USA series, which streams on Netflix and Peacock, spent its 12th consecutive week at the top of Nielsen’s rankings, which go back three years. It had 2.36 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Sept. 4-10, falling by only 4 percent from the previous week. Suits‘ 12th week at No. 1 overall broke a tie with Netflix’s Ozark, which had 11 weeks at No. 1 over several seasons.

Five titles had more than a billion minutes of viewing for the week, with Netflix’s Virgin River (1.92 billion minutes of watch time) coming in second behind Suits. One Piece (1.39 billion minutes), the streaming debut of The Little Mermaid (1.37 billion) and Swat (1.04 billion) — which jumped 62 percent week to week — also crossed that threshold.

In the original series...

Futurama Had a Weak First Season - Here's What Hulu Needs To Change
Image
Hulu revived Futurama for Season 8, but lacked the unique qualities that made the show engaging. Futurama's best episodes delve into the meaningful exploration of its characters. Futurama Season 8 suffered from a focus on straightforward parodies and sacrificing genuine character storylines, but can still course-correct for future seasons.

First airing in 1999, Futurama has survived multiple cancelations and channel hops to become one of the most emotionally resonant comedies of the 21st century. The futuristic cartoon has proven over the years to be capable of balancing good humor with romantic, tragic, and philosophical reflections on life, love, and the universe. At its best, it's one of the most unique and engaging shows on TV. Unfortunately, the latest episodes couldn't quite match that pedigree.

Futurama Season 8 was rough compared to previous iterations of the show. While there were still solid gags and a few strong storylines, the show largely suffered from leaning...

Disenchantment Season 5’s 7 Best Easter Eggs & References
Image
Disenchantment season 5 includes hidden Easter eggs and references to itself, movies, and other shows in the Groening universe. The season makes a notable reference to a 29-year-old joke from The Simpsons, featuring a fictional animator named Hig Heisler. Connections between Disenchantment and Futurama are evident through the appearance of characters like Luci and Hypnotoad, as well as references to Luna Park and the cancelation of Futurama.

Disenchantment, the popular animated show from the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, has just finished airing season 5, which has plenty of hidden Easter eggs and references scattered throughout. The third animation from the mind of Matt Groening, Disenchantment is set in the fictional kingdom of Dreamland, which combines the Middle Ages with futuristic, space-age elements. Disenchantment season 5 serves as the final season of the series, bringing Queen Bean's (Abbi Jacobson) quest to save her home to a close at last.

Disenchantment follows Bean and her companion,...

‘Krapopolis’ Review: Dan Harmon’s New Fox Animated Comedy Is Atypically Bland
Image
Dan Harmon’s brand of comedy — sometimes puerile, sometimes erudite, usually with both sensibilities engaged in a graphic on-screen wrestling match — isn’t for everybody.

Even the shows of his that I love the most — Community and Rick and Morty and The Sarah Silverman Program, the usual stuff — lose me here and there.

One thing I’ve never accused a Dan Harmon show of being was bland.

Krapopolis, a long-gestating Fox animated comedy notable for off-screen trivia — it’s already been renewed through a third season, plus it has some connection I don’t understand to the blockchain — is bland. Through the three episodes sent to critics, it looks bland and the stories it’s telling are bland and, most oddly of all, the thematic underpinnings of the series are bland.

Krapopolis is never boring and I chuckled here and there. But I’m guessing most of my laughs came...

How The Simpsons, Futurama and Disenchantment Work as a Trilogy
Image
The Simpsons and Futurama crossover episode establishes that both series exist within the same universe. Disenchantment also linked Bean's world and the one depicted within Futurama because of Professor Farnsworth and his time machine. Because of the connections between Futurama, The Simpsons and Disenchantment, the three series can be viewed as a working trilogy that examines and theorizes on the history of humanity.

Regarding cherished animated series, Matt Groening seems to have his fingers on the pulse concerning what audiences want to watch. After all, the cartoonist and animator has three distinct shows -- The Simpsons, Futurama and Disenchantment -- which have all done well over the years despite their ups and downs. Nevertheless, fans have always viewed each sitcom as a standalone piece regardless of crossovers or Easter eggs, which shouldn't be the case. These connections, in all actuality, bind the three series in a unique way that not...

10 Animated Fantasy Cartoons To Watch After Disenchantment
Image
Disenchantment is one of the better adult cartoon series available, but there are 10 similar shows to enjoy after finishing the show. Disenchantment, created by The Simpsons and Futurama's Matt Groening, has received widespread acclaim since its 2018 debut on Netflix. The series, which takes place in a medieval fantasy setting called Dreamland, is full of Groening's trademark wit and creative plot lines. Despite the show's success, its fifth season has officially been confirmed as the end of the series.

Luckily, there are plenty of other animated fantasy series for fans to sink their teeth into after finishing Disenchantment. Though Disenchantment's witty, satirical side is difficult to find in other entries in the fantasy genre, there are plenty of fantasy shows that contain some level of humor alongside their classic fantasy elements. There are also some animated fantasy series that may not contain much humor but are fantastic watches for any fan of fantasy cartoons.

Disenchantment Season 4 Ending Explained: Every Question & Mystery Solved
Image
Disenchantment season 4 ended with unanswered questions about Dagmar's plan and goals, leaving viewers eager for more answers in season 5. Freckles, the puppet character, may be secretly Yøg seeking revenge on King Zøg, hinted at by their similar appearance and shared voice actor. The show introduced intriguing plotlines surrounding Satan, including the debt Dagmar owes him and the mystery behind his changing appearance in mirrors, which will likely be explored in later seasons.

Matt Groening's Disenchantment season 4 recap ended with more questions than it did answers. There were several big subplots that got some form of resolution, answering some questions. However, the show's fifth season finale was consistent with its previous installments in the fact that it split up the main cast in various cliffhangers, and in the case of Queen Bean, literally tossed off of a cliff. Disenchantment skips around its ongoing subplots and long-standing mysteries every season,...

A Futurama Movie Could Be In The Cards At Hulu
Image
The constant cancelations and resurrections of "Futurama" have taught its makers to be nimble. The initial run of "Futurama" lasted four seasons from March 1999 until August 2003. At the time, it seemed like that was the end of things, but it would prove to be a mere five-year hiatus.

"Futurama" returned in 2008 in the form of four straight-to-dvd feature-length movies. The first one, "Bender's Big Score" was about a mysterious time-travel code tattooed on Fry's butt. The second, "The Beast with a Billion Backs," was about a lovelorn Lovecraftian space deity that romances everyone on Earth. "Bender's Game" saw the Planet Express crew transported into a Gygaxian fantasy universe (likely serving as the inspiration for Matt Groening's "Disenchantment"). "Into the Wild Green Yonder" concerns psychic waves pulsing through the universe, tinfoil hats, and a feminist uprising. The movies were eventually broadcast on TV, each one split up into four episodes.

The Simpsons Season 35 Revisiting This All-Timer Season 5 Episode Is Incredibly Risky
Image
The Simpsons season 35 trailer promises new adventures that will remind viewers of the show's glory days, but revisiting classic episodes can be risky. The upcoming episode flips a famous dynamic, with Lisa preparing to kill Sideshow Bob instead of the other way around, which may take place in a Halloween episode. While revisiting earlier episodes can be divisive, The Simpsons has successfully revived classic episodes in the past without ruining their predecessors, so there is a chance it will work for "Cape Feare".

While The Simpsons season 35 trailer implies the show will return to one classic episode, this approach has garnered mixed results in the past. Throughout the 1990s, the series produced some of the most critically acclaimed comedy writing in the medium of television. However, this halcyon period known as the Golden Age of The Simpsons could never have lasted, and in turn, the show eventually fell victim to...

10 Ways Disenchantment’s Characters Can Still Return In Futurama & The Simpsons
Image
Crossover potential: Given the past crossovers and the shared universe, it's likely that Disenchantment characters could appear in The Simpsons or Futurama. Time-travel possibilities: With the magical orb and time-travel storylines in both shows, characters from Disenchantment and Futurama could easily meet by traveling through time. Unique storytelling opportunities: The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror" episodes and wraparound story devices provide opportunities for Disenchantment characters to appear, whether in a Halloween episode or as part of a bedtime story on The Simpsons.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Disenchantment finale. The fifth and final season of Disenchantment was recently released on Netflix, concluding Matt Groening's third animated comedy series for good, but the characters could still potentially show up in The Simpsons or Futurama. Given that The Simpsons Futurama crossover episode in season 26 was produced the year after Futurama initially ended, it now seems almost inevitable that more Disenchantment...

Disenchantment: Bean Takes on Her Mommy Issues in Grand Finale
Image
The following contains spoilers for Disenchantment, now streaming on Netflix.

The fifth season of Disenchantment not only signifies the end of Matt Groening's popular fantasy animated series on Netflix but also marks the culmination of Queen Bean's journey to address and confront her maternal issues. From the beginning, audiences have followed Bean's transformation from a drunken, rebellious princess to a somewhat responsible queen. However, this evolution has also shed light on Bean's complicated relationship with her mother, Queen Dagmar.

There already exist numerous portrayals of complex mother-daughter relationships in the media, as seen recently in Apple TV+'s Foundation with Gaal and Salvor. However, the one seen in Disenchantment is notably more intricate. Disenchantment follows a trio of friends: Bean, her fiery elf friend, Elfo, and her personal demon, Luci. Together, they engage in a variety of misadventures as Bean attempts to either conduct or shirk her royal duties.

Netflix Top 10: ‘One Piece’ Live-Action Series Remains at No. 1 as Adam Sandler’s ‘You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah’ Leads Films
Image
“One Piece” continues to lead the list of titles during the Sept. 4-10 viewing window on the Netflix Top 10 chart. Picking up another 19.2 million total views in its first full week of availability, the figure pushed the series to the most viewed title of the week.

In its first four days of availability, the live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga quickly sailed to the top of Netflix’s top 10 chart with 18.5 million total views. During the Aug. 28-Sept. 3 viewing window, the series reached the Top 10 in 93 countries, and debuted at No. 1 in 46 with 140.1 million hours viewed. While it’s not an exact comparison (Netflix only calculated viewing hours at the time), “Cowboy Bebop” — Netflix’s 2021 live-action adaptation based on the anime series of the same name, which was canceled after one season — opened at No. 9 on 15.26 million hours viewed in its first four days of availability.
