A team of scientists aboard the International Space Station discover a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars and now threatens all life on Earth.
It was rumored that this film was a prequel to Venom (2018), but it was subsequently debunked.

Early in "Calvin's" development, the creature demonstrates the ability to identify the 'weak point' in a barrier and to make/modify and use a tool to exploit this knowledge (to puncture the containment glove and escape), but this ability is never seen again, despite the numerous instances when it would have been useful.
The music for the end titles begins with the song Spirit in the Sky. This was used during the live broadcast from the ill-fated Apollo XIII moon mission. A recreation of this broadcast, along with this song, was included in the film of the same name. The irony is intentional, as the song is about dying.
