After this Friday, you will no longer be able to see Olaf's Frozen Adventure before Coco. The news comes on the heels of several people complaining the short, which is 21 minutes in total runtime, is entirely too long and not that good. Disney, not willing to admit defeat, claim that the short was always meant to be a limited run, although it feels as though that limitation was likely at least meant to run up a little closer to Christmas.
Maybe next time they'll air a Star Wars short? Those who have seen the short, do you think it was that bad? Thanks to Gamespot for the heads up. ...

2017-11-24T05:53:44-08:00'Coco' Conquers 'Justice League'
After a dismal opening last week, Justice League is facing a disappointing long holiday weekend, too. The big-budget superhero film looks like it will take second place to Coco, an animated family film about the Mexican Day of the Dead. Coco will likely take in $70 million or more by the end of the weekend, while Justice League will be lucky to earn $60 million.
Via The Hollywood Reporter.
As the long Thanksgiving holiday got underway, Disney and Pixar's Coco danced its way past holdover Justice League on Wednesday with an opening-day gross of $13.2 million after nabbing an A+ CinemaScore.
Wednesday's haul included $2.3 million in Tuesday night previews. Coco is playing in 3,987 theaters in North America.
Justice League took in $10.5 million from 4,051 theaters for a domestic total of $122.4 million.

2017-11-23T05:56:10-08:00'Coco' Has a Strong Holiday Opening
The holiday weekend got started very early, and the Pixar animated family film Coco was on top of it. The movie earned strong ticket sales in Tuesday previews, setting it up for a solid five-day holiday take. Justice League outperformed Coco on Tuesday, but it's almost certain to give up the weekend as a whole to the animated film.
Via The Hollywood Reporter.
Coco has a lot to be thankful for, as it grossed $2.3 million in Tuesday-night previews.
The animated movie from Pixar and Disney, about the Mexican holiday Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), opens on Wednesday in 3,948 theaters, including nearly 2,800 3D locations over and 268 screens offering the film in Spanish. Over its five-day Thanksgiving weekend debut, it is expected to earn $55 million to $60 million domestically, though there's plenty of room for upside.

You won’t find a sharper contrast in period costume design than the farm life of “Mudbound” vs. the high fashion of “Murder on the Orient Express.” The former, directed by Dee Rees, is a sprawling saga about two families, one black, one white, in the 1940s Mississippi Delta. And the latter, helmed by Kenneth Branagh (who also plays the wildly mustachioed Hercule Poirot), is a stylish, 1934 murder mystery aboard the eponymous luxury locomotive.
Tackling Parallel Settings for “Mudbound”
There were two challenges for costume designer Michael T. Boyd (“Bessie,” “We Were Soldiers,” “Gettysburg”): Authenticating clothing for parallel settings on the Mississippi Delta and in aerial and tank battles during World War II. “It stretches your creativity,” said Boyd, who was working on a small budget for the indie feature distributed by Netflix.
“You’re trying to realistically recreate the atmosphere,” Boyd added. “That was my mission on this show.

Earlier this year, critics group made headlines when they came together to protest Disney’s decision to ban the Los Angeles Times’ access to the studio’s films. The ban was eventually lifted, but it raised a number of questions about how critics and studios maintain an ongoing relationship.
During a recent panel discussion at the Key West Film Festival moderated by IndieWire’s Eric Kohn, Los Angeles Times’ critic Kenneth Turan was joined by Rolling Stone’s David Fear, Time Out New York’s Joshua Rothkopf, Buzzfeed’s Alison Willmore, and Miami-based freelancer Juan Barquin to discuss the ramifications of Disney’s decision and other related issues. The following is an edited excerpt from that conversation.
Kenneth Turan: Around the time of “Thor,” a lot of people in the film department of the paper were not getting invited. We knew screenings were taking place. We got in touch...

Unfortunately for the fan dressed in an inflatable Baymax costume (which was so big he couldn't fit into any of the convention center's seats), Friday's Pixar and Disney Animation panel at D23, Disney’s fan expo, didn't provide confirmation on sequels to either Big Hero 6 or Zootopia. But host John Lasseter, head of Walt Disney Animation and Pixar Studios, did have plenty of scoop on Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph 2, The Incredibles 2 and more!

"Do we have any traditions, Elsa?" Disney has unveiled a trailer for their new animated short film, titled Olaf's Frozen Adventure, which will play before Pixar's Coco in theaters this November. It's a bit odd that there is no new Pixar short playing before the new Pixar movie, but I guess this might get people into theaters. Olaf's Frozen Adventure is a 21-minute (!!) short film spin-off from Disney's Frozen, featuring 4 new original songs and lots of extra time with the lovable snowman Olaf, as voiced by Josh Gad. There are also appearances by Elsa (Idina Menzel), and Anna (Kristen Bell). This looks wild and wacky and full of holiday magic and cheer, plus it should be a nice holdover for those anxiously awaiting Frozen 2. Have fun! Here's the first trailer for Disney's new short film Olaf's Frozen Adventure, direct from YouTube: Featuring four new original songs, "Olaf's Frozen Adventure...
