Inspired by the true events of the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight en route from Tel Aviv to Paris, and the most daring rescue mission ever attempted.
A lot of the film was shot in Luqa, Malta, at the International airport. A day after filming wrapped In Malta, a real hijacked Libyan airplane landed very close to where the set was. The hijackers used replica hand grenades and pistols.

The Israeli commandos use brushes to paint the brown Mercedes black, but in subsequent scenes their black Mercedes has a shiny, factory finish.
