In 1892, a legendary Army Captain reluctantly agrees to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family through dangerous territory.
The film takes place mostly outdoors. As the movie was shot on-location in New Mexico and Arizona during monsoon season, the cast and crew were exposed to the elements. Indeed, filming had to be often shut down for a time because of lightning storms.
Master Sgt. Thomas Metz:
I've killed everything that's walked or crawled. If you do it enough, you get used to it.
At one point the lieutenant addresses the sergeant major as "sir". A West Point officer would never address a non-commissioned officer as "sir."
