  • It boggles the mind a show like Two Broke Girls can go on seemingly forever but something watchable gets canned after just one season, probably because, once again, the dumbasses the look at the ratings/viewers aren't also counting people who stream shows.

I hope Netflix revives this and Limitless, because at this point i think they're the only ones who know what their doing anymore.
  • ...most of 2.5K reviewers liked this show, and that's well better than a majority of similar productions. It's one of those shows that maybe takes awhile getting used to, but it definitely got better as the season progressed. It now shows as being canceled.. but were I in the business, I'd be willing to give it new life. There's lots of good characters here, and the story-line has gotten much more solid over time. Many times network executives are too quick to pull the plug on what could morph into better works. All involved in this production deserve more of a chance.. maybe someone with wider vision will uncover an opportunity here. Only time will tell... anyway, it was good fun for the times of S1.

...I really can't understand the networks, the producers and the writers this season...

Notorious is a new TV drama about...well...I'm not so sure.

It is about the (unexplained) close "business" relationship between a (male) criminal defense attorney and a (female) news producer. Supposedly based on actual persons, attorney Mark Geragos and Larry King Live producer Wendy Walker.

The main idea is (also supposedly) to show to the viewers how easily can be manipulated by cheap tricks played by the media. Like whoever gets to say ...first if someone is guilty or innocent, will play a major role to the ...actual verdict of a jury!

There are a lot of things going wrong with Notorious even from its first scene which shows (you might have guessed it) ...Sex! And not just Sex, but Sex in the office. And the scene that follows that, is another one that implies Sex between the cougar anchorwoman and an exotic boy-toy, also in the office at the same time, a few meters away from the previous couple.

And the usual "you are the best", "she is the greatest", "the top news producer", blah-blah, blah-blah, from the writers who are too lazy to make a solid introduction and build properly their characters.

Then, the lamest and most uninteresting twists, appearing one after the other, trying to match the fast, abrupt editing and direction.

And all of these, are mixed into a chaos of a script, that tries to combine mystery, legal drama, romance, deceit and a soap opera version of "the Newsroom".

Overall: Another disappointment for this season. Not worth the time. Maybe some hardcore feminists will find it a tad enjoyable.

  • OK I tried this show and judging by the episode I saw it just wasn't my type of thing don't get me wrong I love how to get away with murder and scandal I even love ABCs conviction as well but this just didn't have it It failed where those shows succeeded and is boring where those are exciting to watch yes there drama in the news room but it was just a letdown of a show for me no lovable characters no good plot just lazy and flat it is just a bad example of something that could have gone great however I am don't think that it was successful in trying to entertain me but it just sucked and wasn't worthy of a second try in my opinion and I hate to say that I have a prediction of it being the first to go this season
  • Can't believe the low score, why is everyone being so critical? Sit back, relax, and enjoy something fresh! Devil teams up with cops, writer teams up with cops, almost every show has a team-up that's been done and well criticized, however dumb it may seen. But this is very unique and quite frankly, a great idea. The media is about manipulation/perception. Law is about manipulation/perception (of the judge/jury) so this show is a perfect fit! At first I thought nahhh, wont work, but every episode just gets more interesting and suspenseful. I do suggest that every episode has to be seen from the 1st to current to understand fully and appreciate the drama and chain of events. Well done, and hope this show stays on for additional seasons and the critics begin to appreciate it even if not for it's originality and great acting cast.
  • Julia George (Piper Perabo) is the driven L.A. producer of a news interview show hosted by Louise Herrick (Kate Jennings Grant). Megan Byrd is her assistant. She often works with defense attorney and former lover Jake Gregorian (Daniel Sunjata). Ella Benjamin (Aimee Teegarden), Bradley Gregorian (J. August Richards), and Ryan Mills are investigators working for Jake. Jake has Oscar Keaton (Kevin Zegers) as a client but later it is revealed that Jake had an one-night stand with his wife.

This tries to be a lot of flash like a Scandal. I like both Perabo and Sunjata as actors. I like their characters less. The show starts with them in a complicated passionate relationship but it gets water thrown on it almost immediately. The fake brash overwrought unreality can be acceptable but the show hits the wrong note from time to time. I also wonder if following only one case for the whole season would be more compelling and better for the show. It would make more sense for Jake and Julia to do one case together.
  • I was drawn to this show (which is based on the backstage happenings at "Larry King Live") because of Piper Perabo. The premise sounded lame to me, but I was willing to give it a chance.

The first episode opens with a sex scene between Julia George (Perabo) and her fiancé. Louise, the star of the TV show Julia produces, is an attractive cougar who beds almost every younger guy she comes in contact with. Julia's assistant, Megan, used to be an escort. It doesn't take long to realize that titillation will be on the menu (along with the beefcake and the cheesecake).

Julia has a strong relationship with a local attorney, Jake Gregorian (Daniel Sunjata). Together they manipulate public opinion for their own ends. She wants ratings and he is always angling in the best interests of his clients.

In episode two, Julia mines a pro bono legal case for its juicier elements to stimulate viewership. Puff Daddy pops by for a few seconds. And there is a fairly interesting story about a mother whose child was abducted.

As a result, I have mixed feelings about "Notorious". Perabo is believable in her demanding leading role. The rest of the cast is fairly strong. But the subject matter is mostly frivolous. And it is not clear yet whether the stars of the show are likable enough to truly care about. I do know that Ms. Perabo's talents can be better used.

Update 10/18/16: After watching a few episodes, my worst fears have been confirmed. There is a smarmy yet sensitive vibe at the center of the show. The staff of the television news show pretend to be the conscience of America, the judge who hands their facts over to the public (jurors) in search of justice. They use their power to bully and coerce. They repeatedly drag the national conversation down into the gutter then seek the moral high ground. Their sources are shadowy and (conveniently) never ending. They cast themselves as the (pseudo-) custodians of conscience, but Julia is reckless and "a self-centered little bitch" according to her own on-air talent.

The worst thing about this show is that tries to normalize the sordid practices of TV news program that specializes in sensationalism, sex, celebrity and sin. We don't need to celebrate that and we don't need to accept it as the rightful and best practices of journalism.

Perabo (and others) can do better. I look forward to her next show. I am lowering my grade to "4".
  • This show can be a great one if they keep up the tempo from the first episode. I have not seen this tempo in events and the script since West Wing. Piper Perabo is as usual brilliant and this is a show where I really look forward to the 2nd episode.

The only thing I am afraid for is the tempo slowing down and the drama taking over too much. Looking at the first episode I feel there is a risk the writers wants the show to be more sexy. But it does not need that. Just give us what you gave us in the first episode and all will be fine.

If you like a fast-paced actiondrama, you will like Notorious. I hope we get a full season even though reviews generally have been poor.
  • This show wants to be a lot of things (behind-the-scenes drama, white- collar romance, mystery, legal procedural), and it might succeed at some of those if it weren't so dedicated to being a laughable soap -- and a girlie one at that. What do I mean by "girlie"? I mean that every woman on this show is self-empowered, while every guy on this show is either a wimp, a schemer, a liar, and/or is trying to figure out how to get the women to give him something. It's a feminist's dream, at the expense of any believability whatsoever. The only even remotely redeeming factor is that the mystery is actually pretty good. Unfortunately you have to wade through a lot of raw sewage to watch it. Not worth it for me.
  • This new ABC series so far called "Notorious" I like as it's a legal drama with some sugar and spice and it blends well with headline themes of the media and the law dealing with high profile cases that involve themes of hype, drama, and scandal all while showing how the legal system has holes in it. Set in sunny and beautiful Los Angeles, California it involves the workings of a young hot shot criminal defense lawyer named Jake(Daniel Sunjata)who takes only the cases of the most high profile incidents and his clients are well known and rich. And to build up the hype and drama Jake features his cases on the network of powerhouse TV producer Julia George(Piper Perabo)who as a young hunger type ratings seeker features the stories and interviews on a show with a red head type cougar host who's one sexy colored bra wearing woman! This series is filled with sex, drama, and plenty of scandal showing that's how the law and media works when it involves the high profile as it's all about greed and hype to obtain ratings and money along with a good story!
  • I'm looking for a replacement to the Good Wife now that show has ended and thought I would give this one a shot. This sadly is not it. The cast is fine as are the direction and the show clearly has a reasonable budget but the premise and the script really don't amount to much at all. We have lots of frenetic energy and people running around doing stuff but it is all of no real interest primarily I guess because none of the characters connect in any way with the audience. I could not find a single character to care about or have any real empathy for. The person killed in the first episode never gets explored and the alleged murderer is never more than a blank sheet himself. All in all meh. I will stop around for one more episode but after that, I am out.
  • I loved this show and would highly recommend it to anyone. The actors were all awesome and the acting was great, with really good chemistry. The story line was fun and interesting and i would love to have seen so much more.

I am really disappointed it was cancelled, like many other great shows. I don't understand why production company's even begin filming a new show if they are not going to commit to at least 2 or 3 seasons to give more viewers a chance to get involved in it.

I live in Australia and only found out about this show, this year "2020". If the production company wants to know why it did not take off as well as they expected or wanted it to, they should promote these shows better and give them more time.

I think people are getting sick and tired of even beginning to watch a new show for the simple fact great shows are being cancelled all to soon, all the time. It is extremely disappointing to find an awesome show like this one, Gang Related, Common Law, and Almost Human to name only a few, and see them vanish after just one season.

10/10 to the actors from me and a massive fail to the producers.
  • This show is about powerful women and boy toys.

    I like the leading lady.

Also I like many of the female characters developed in the pilot but the male characters are weak.

    I think its by design.

They succeeded in alienating much of the male viewing public in the first 28 minutes.

Those, that are not boy toys, are destroyed by spiteful women.

I think I can anticipate the majority of the future plot lines.

The introduction of a male character - his interaction with the women on the show - and his downfall.

If this, is what women want to watch, then enjoy.

    Its not for us.
  • Warning: Spoilers
The pilot Ep exudes so much substance, having great twists and amazing cast, albeit the acting seemed somewhat forced, however is rectified in subsequent episodes. This being typical of most new shows, is quite forgiving.

The set up for the series is exciting and draws away from the cookie cutter standard law practice and crime fighting genres. The only defining similarities would be the familiar grit and up beat quirk and intelligence that made Boston Legal and House MD so great. Exactly what we have been missing for so long. Let's just hope they keep the comedic relief true to the format, witty and far away from the farce mistakes of the recent season drama crime series Blacklist. The Aram and Nevabi deal that really took away from the respect of the show. **Warning Spoiler** Thankfully the romance taking form for one pair of characters is minus the goofy awkwardness.

Back to Notorious, all players show to be having intriguing stories that has so far hinted at more deep entangled relationships, keeping you guessing who's who and what's what. On top of such a great character set up, lies an unraveling main story which keeps you guessing and just to get you all worked up they have multitudes of new side stories which take form every episode. Just packed full of plot twists, witty dialogue and a pace that keeps your eyes on the screen.

What a refreshing addition to the 2016 drama line up.
  • Who thinks up this drivel. Show won't last. I can call them and this one can't be saved.

The premise is stupid. Is everyone in the world in collusion? Slow paced. Not enough story line. Plastic acting.

The script writers should be fired.

    Don't waste your time.

It's difficult to find anything good about this show.

Unrealistic story line. Tries to be sensual in a G rated world. Maybe this would work on a cable network with more blood, guts, sex, political corruption, drugs, senseless murders, - you know real world stuff.

I found this show to be sufficiently entertaining. It's not deep or thought provoking, but definitely watchable. I think the reason for the low ratings is that people are comparing it to similar shows that happened to be exceptional. I haven't seen those shows, and I would rank this as an 8/10 in comparison to a grand scheme of television dramas. It definitely runs at a plot twist-a-minute pace, which is great for keeping audiences engaged but not as great for depth or intriguing plot development. I am fine with that. Its the type of show you can watch while simultaneously engaged in other tasks because it doesn't thrive on subtleties. Plus Daniel Sunjata is easy on the eyes.
  • Some actors have a knack for choosing great scripts, so we follow them around eagerly waiting for whatever they're doing next. Piper Perabo, unfortunately, has the opposite talent. Just like Covert Affairs and Penny Dreadful (which truly lived up to its name), this lazy formula drama is a badly written pile of steaming schlock. With stiff, hackneyed dialogue like this, it's hard to see what the actors can really do, but they come off here as bland and lifeless.
  • I was so excited to see Piper in a new show. We went to Ohio University together and we graduated at the same time. I met her a few times and I adore her!!!! I hope Notorious will be picked up! She was also amazing in Covert Affairs BUT anything with her in it is amazing. Keep up the amazing work!

    10/10
    Oof!!
Too bad this show has a lot of potential. Its a shame it didnt last long in the air!
  • Finally a great new show. The premise is a producer of a news show is friends with a lawyer. This shows behind the scenes of producing a news show utilizing contacts. Also shows how things change on the fly. Actors and actresses are terrific. The lineup is great with some relatively new faces who portray their characters very well. There is mystery, romance, subterfuge all rolled into this show.

I do believe that you have to watch several episodes in order to understand all the dynamics involved between the characters. This season focuses on a long time love affair between Jake ( the lawyer) and his clients wife. The client was arrested for murder only to be released and Jake arrested for the murder when in actuality the client may have had a hand in the murder along with the victims brother. Give this show a chance. You will be happy that you did.
  • Awesome series loved it. Amazing actors and storyline is quit a true reflection of the day to day reality.
