If you're a fan of Robert Klein, I think you'll enjoy this documentary about him. Not much new is revealed, but it does remind you that in addition to his great stand-up work, he is also a successful Broadway and film actor, singer and composer. Sometimes one forgets his great versatility. It also plays back some of his best bits that were on some of the HBO specials that he used to do. His type of stand-up isn't really around that much anymore, so seeing it again is kind of a throwback.

My only mild criticism of this documentary is when the hyperbole becomes ridiculous. There was one, maybe two of the famous comedians interviewed for this film that comments that Klein, along with Richard Pryor and George Carlin were the most important stand-ups of their era. Now, I happen to prefer Klein much more compared to Pryor or Carlin, but even I know that you can't compare the impact that Klein had to these two guys. It's just ridiculous. Let's not get too crazy here.
  • Robert Klein has been funny for ages and is still funny! I was glad to see many bits shown through time. If you enjoy him, you will like this. If you are expecting someone else, you won't. Many good memories here for me. Take a chance on this funny man and the people he has guided in comedy.
  • I guess I'll be the first one to review this documentary about Robert Klein. To be honest it wasn't great, not the kind of documentary I enjoy. It's just way too repetitive, you basically just get extremely positive feedbacks from other comedians, that if you have to believe them wouldn't have become comedians if they didn't watched Robert Klein before their own careers. The storyline states "...this is a hilarious and poignant look at the life and career of Robert Klein...". Let me immediately correct that, it's not hilarious, far from it. When I watch a comedy or a stand-up comedian I want to be entertained, have some good laughs, in other words a pleasant time. In this case I barely laughed, wasn't entertained, and certainly didn't give me the feeling of having a pleasant time. You can't even determine if Robert Klein was a good stand-up comedian or not as you just get a couple seconds here and there from his shows. It would have been better with larger sequences of his shows, so we could have made up our mind ourselves. Now you just get an endless idolization by other comedians, that becomes quite repetitive and boring to watch. It's just not a good documentary about a man that probably deserves better.
