Right, well first of all I have to say that the 2017 movie "Demon Covered in Scars" (aka "Kizudarake no akuma") was a very unique movie. And by that I mean, it was hard to put a label on it.
I suppose maybe because I am not a young girl in high school or college then I can't really relate to the story told in "Demon Covered in Scars". And it was sort of difficult to tell what director Santa Yamagishi really wanted to accomplish and tell with this movie.
As I understand, then this movie is based on a Manga. I can't really say that after having seen this 2017 movie that I have an overwhelming desire to rush out to read the Manga.
The storyline in the movie was in some aspects fairly straight forward and to the point, but at other aspects it just made little sense, and that ultimately made for a somewhat cluttered and semi-confusing movie. But again, perhaps because I am not the target audience, then the movie's concept is sort of lost on me.
I will say, though, that the acting performances in the movie were fairly good.
However, I found "Demon Covered in Scars" to be a swing and a miss. It was a movie that offered very little entertainment or enjoyment for me. And while it was just running at 1 hour and 37 minutes, it felt much longer given the slow pacing of the story, and the fact that it was just such a cluttered storyline.
My rating of "Demon Covered in Scars" lands on a very, very bland and mediocre five out of ten stars. It was a watchable movie, but hardly an enjoyable one for me. And it is by no accounts a milestone in Japanese cinema.
