  • Warning: Spoilers
The war between an occult based detective agency and the mafia running the seedy underbelly of the city might not be believable but it is engaging.

Add in the character growth and development, large masterfully done story arcs, Bungo Stray Dogs is a must watch.

    Pros:
    • Strong Characters, even the cliched stereotypes are amusing and well done.

    • Actions have consequences.

    • Redemption is possible, but it's not easy.

    • "Good guys" and "Bad guys" are well balanced (in comparison to each other).

    • Excellent Intro/Closing music.

    • Story arcs with resolution with the possibility for more.

    Cons:
    • Diamond shapes pupils and irises are not my thing.

    • The main character remains overly fearful even after he realizes his power and near immortality.

    • Some shortcuts in the animation when dealing with characters seem from a distance, not a fan.

    • Inconsistent animation, much of it is well done, but some distracting exceptions.

    • "deus ex machina" factor can get in the way, the episodes where they explained the conclusions character came to or explained how a problem was solved were much more fulfilling.

Overall look forward to a 4th season if it happens.
  • This show is fantastic. There's only 6 episodes out thus far but I've loved every single one of them. Its creative, funny, and puts limitations on the characters' powers to prevent them from becoming all-powerful (a trope that's all too common, especially in anime).

The animation is stellar and I can't tell you how much I love the art style, making all of the powers (which I won't describe here because spoilers) a joy to watch.

The characters are unique, likable, and funny, presenting plenty of contrast between the major characters to make for some hilarious situations.

The story focuses on Atsushi, an orphan boy living on the streets who after being kicked out of his orphanage through a turn of events manages to join the Armed Detective Agency, an Agency that specializes in dealing with threats from those who are Gifted - as most of their members are - that the police don't stand a chance against.

My only complaint with the show is the number of times Atsushi has flashbacks to getting kicked out of the orphanage; it gets kind of repetitive, but because of all the other things working in this show's favor I'm willing to overlook it.

In short this show is definitely worth a watch if you're looking for a new series to try. And if you finish all the episodes and still want more Bungou Stray Dogs, try the manga like I did, its worth your time.
  • Warning: Spoilers
U should watch season3 i it's amazing there are so many twist and turns in the storyline
  • Truth be told, I was disheartened by the reviews when I first planned on watching Bungou Stray Dogs. But the series soon became one of my favourites due to the fact that it has some of the most characters I have ever seen, a gripping and complex plot, and fantastic worldbuilding. The humour does get a bit tired at times, but generally does a good job of diffusing the tension during scenes. There's a lot of symbolism and most lines and themes go way beyond the surface level, and I just find that very exciting. I definitely recommend watching this series!
  • First, I just want to say that the English dub on this is rather well-done.

So, I won't say much here, expect that the first 10 or 12 episodes seem to be a bit slow, disjointed, without any real major unifying narrative tying things together. Rather, it feels like a series of unrelated episodes about different adventures of the detective agency.

The story is NOT about how people got their powers or "gifts" or anything like that. The powers are mostly unexplained and are just sort of there.

This show starts out as just a collection of funny stories and then takes a somewhat darker turn as the history of the different organizations are slowly revealed, and then things hit a climax with the major present-day factions get embroiled in a conflict, forcing certain political and personal games to get played.

Honestly, if they had just slowed the pace down a little and added more meat, this would have been such an epic story, but too many times they build up a conflict only to resolve it rather easily. And sometimes heavy drama between characters sort of gets easily overcome. That would be my only real complain, besides the mundane nature of the first few episodes.

Other than that, there was enough character development for me to become fond of most of the main ones. There was thankfully relatively little fan service, and what little there was in the show was kept to a minimum, used mostly for comic relief.

There isn't anyone really overpowered - each character is shown to shine at some point or another, and as I said, this is more of a story between different groups of people than it is about action or special powers.

I would recommend this, but I don't think it would appeal to as wide an audience as, say, Cowboy Beebop (yeah for some reason, I was reminded of Beebop, but just a few whiffs here and there).

Worth checking out. I found it while seeking out funny anime, and the humor was satisfactory. (I do think that the humor may come off better in the sub than the dub, but I am not sure).
  • Looking forward to the next installment of this anime. If you like quirky characters this is anime is for you. It does seem to jump around plot wise a bit, but it eventually ties many of the loose ends together.
  • Bongou Stray Dogs is a masterpiece by Bones .. A must watch Anime for any fan... It doesn't bore u for even one second... The animation is well thought out and amazing .. Anybody searching for a fun yet classy anime .. This would be the perfect choice .. Srsly guys don't miss out on this
  • The character development is quite good and I enjoyed the redemption story of the main character. Also the story telling of the second and third season is quite nice, where each season starts with a flashback, so we learn more about "the why" of the relationships and their dynamics.

On the other hand I found most of the plot very predictable. There are no real surprises, even the so called "plot twists" you can guess beforehand without an effort. Nevertheless a solid show.

I wanted to leave reality for a bit. So many different powered people where even their power expressed emotions as well.
  • fatixoamin28 January 2020
Honestly I started this anime only because of Dazai... And still gonna watch it only because of him.I don't see any other interesting or attractive factors to keep me watch it.It could be better and I had higher expectations.
  • This show isn't really mentioned in a lot of anime circles. But it's actually quite good, the second season being the most compelling and crazy of all. It almost felt like a completely different series.

I can't say much about the plot as its not finished yet and we are only getting quarter of the story but the first 3 seasons are pretty good the animation is slick but i like it . The characters are written well, not the best but overall its a good anime its pretty underrated.

This series is strange. Sometimes its great, and one can see the effort and thought put behind the making of it. But often its cheesy and seems like it follows a recipe that worked in the past and it ruins it completely. Grown men acting like children and is portrayed in a intellectual light yet if one ponders what they are actually saying and doing it falls flat. Its not a good way of portraying protagonists and antagonists. The series fails to reveal the horror of nihilism when many of the protagonists supposedly suffer from it. I've seen almost 3 seasons and I don't recommend this to anyone. Its a shame really.
  • This Anime was very good. S1 is not so great but S2 and S3 are brilliant. Especially we get more dark theme and fights. Fyodor's and Dazai's mind game is really amazing to watch.

FYI I'm only an Anime Watcher, (Sub only-never Dub), not a Reader of Manga. I started watching about a year ago.(2022) It's been great being able to binge watch all of the incredible shows, that I never even knew existed, without having to wait a week for the next episode!

It all started when, for whatever reason, I decided to start watching Attack on Titan. (I should mention that I'm a 50 yr old American male.) I quickly decided that watching in the original language with English subtitles was Way better than watching with English dubbed audio.) By the 4th episode of AoT I was hooked! I started watching shows like; Classroom Assassination, Parasyte, Akima ga Kill, 7 Seeds, and many more. My top rated shows were probably AoT, Demon Slayer, Death Note, SpyxFamily, and Jobless re incarnation.

Then came Chainsaw Man! Definitely my new favorite! After that I really loved Black Clover! (Yes, it was annoying at first, but once I got used to Asta, I started to love Yami and all of the other characters! After finishing the first main arc of B. C.(125 episodes?) I got into reincarnated as a Slime and Jobless Reincarnation (go Rudeus!) THEN I STARTED WATCHING BUNGO STRAY DOGS! It's SO GOOD! It is my New Favorite! (for now) I recommend watching every show mentioned above. They are all Great! I'm so glad that I discovered the World of Anime. It's been a life changer for sure! I'm almost all caught up with Stray Dogs. I now have to wait a week for each episode. Thanks for reading this rambling review. I hope it helps 🤞

The plot is great, its crime and mystery genre. Ppl who love psycho-pass would love this. I personally love animes, with characters that have two personalities like the serious side of them then a funny and cute side to them. Dasai is a perfect example. In my opinion of the best characters with this trait, he is psychic but smart at the same time. Plus this shows supernatural powers, which makes it a bit fantasy/sci-fi like. I cant wait for season 4. This anime is addictive, i binge watched this during my exam season, so i mean it when i see its good. There is a lot of violence and is emotional.
  • Under rated masterpiece great anime story Anime is so mysterious and unpredictable and animation and fights are also good story is good and character are savage and these some attention. I like the main character not to serious and not to fool but good main character. Probably the most under rated Summer anime of 2023 perfect anime with good side cast and villians and season 5 is just unpredictable and mysterious and fights are so good i love tye character designs

cast and villians and season 5 is just unpredictable and mysterious and fights are so good i love tye character designs love this anime.

Its been my favourite anime for around 3-4 months now, The main character is a boy named atsushi nakajima who got kicked out of his orphanage and doesn't know why. He's been found a man drowning in a river and goes to save him, the man and another man treats atsushi to dinner and introduce themselves as dazai and kunikida. They work at a place called armed detective agency, it mantains the peace of their city, yokohama. The first season is not the best out of all. I Feel like it was for introducing the characters more, but it starts to build up in season 2. The storyline of everything was amazing. The characters backstories, how they deal with their trauma is interesting. The fight scenes are good too, but it is also confusing since bones takes out parts of the manga but overall the production of it is good.

Season 3, I really enjoy seeing fyodor and dazai play mind games with eachother. It starts to get even more interesting here, we get to see a lot of interactions with the other characters. Like lucy, atsushi and kyoka. The fights between the two organisations in season 3 was fun to watch and you would hope that none of them would kill eachother (unless your biased). The fight scene of shin soukoku between someone was an really good fight.

Season 4, This was more than amazing. The storyline of it all was... I dont know how to describe it but, it was stunning and unexpected. We got to see 2 new organisations and many new people. Them working hard to clear their name of something that they arent. The governments are against them by the one of the organisations saying they are something they arent and the other one is the maniuilator of all the chaos. (i cant think of more that wont give you really big spoilers of the story)

Manga, the manga is sad and suprising. The agency still trying to clear their name, the mafia helping them will keep you thinking what is the next volume about. Many many sad things happened and it just seems the chaos is getting worse and worse. (I dont know how to say things without giving big spoilers so imma end it here)

    Meh
Pros: People have powers but do not always use them. Some nice graphics Characters personalities defined right at the start.

Meh: Fights are won because the script says theyare.

Cons: Story is childish. Little makes sense other than this is how it is. Every time the story gets serious, they add ridiculous humor. Characters personalities are extreme, and mostly act like children.

Before i even start i must say i dropped the anime after six episodes because it was painful to watch. It seems like a standard anime that starts bad and gets better as it establishes the basics, except that it doesn't get better. I don't always like the humor in anime, but it does give each series its quirks. Here the humor just keeps on going until its painful.

The fight scenes make no sense. Fights are won simply because the script says they are. Fight scenes aren't shown much unless they want to show their abilities. Now, when the abilities do show, they are done nicely, which is this anime's saving grace. But when the majority of the episodes are just ridiculous and painful to watch.
  • This series is just fantastic, i didn't expect such an interesting world building and character development.

It starts a bit slow, I'd say there are two main protagonists, but i just love how not everything is centered around them. Dazai's origin and his buddies are some of the best episodes I've seen in an anime. Each new season starts with an origin story or some prequel episodes, and it's fascinating to learn more about the world and some of the members of the detective agency's past. Surprisingly, every season gets better and better, and I'm already holding my breath for season 5, great series.

If you're a detective/fantasy and sprinkled with just a bit of mystery fan, definitely give this series a shot, totally worth it.

Why does it now have have a 9 or 10 : ( a 7.7 for this amazing anime is a insult extremely underrated.
  • Just...just don't. I've seen so many reviews saying "It was so boring at first". But you have to wait and see the ending because it's FANTASTIC!

Bungou Stray Dogs revolves around the story of Nakajima Atsushi who is gifted with supernatural ability which allows him to transform into a tiger.

The anime characters are named after the famous Japanese poets and authors.

The anime is filled with action and humour. The title fits perfectly with the anime- Stray dogs which in the anime signifies the people who are lost or donot have someone who can take care of them. The whole Port Mafia and The detective agency rivalry and thier love for their city is amazing. The animation and the different supernatural abilities are just epic.

    A Must watch anime!!!
  • Warning: Spoilers
Bungou Stray Dogs is really awesome Anime. Although the plot looks cliché, I loved the way the plot strengthened or got better right from seasons 1 - 4. I also loved that the viewers got a glimpse of the lives of other supporting characters like Dazai, Rampo, Fukuzawa, and Yosano e.t.c as the season progressed.

Another thing I loved was the character design/animation as Bungou Stray Dogs features a list of characters and it wasn't hard identifying them when watching due to their difference in appearance (unlike some animes where all characters look alike).

The only thing I didn't like was that it took a long time for me to develop an interest in the anime. The plot of season 1 was quite weak in my opinion and I really had to endure watching the first 7 - 10 episodes before I got interested in it.
